I think I may know the answer, even though it is admittedly pure speculation.

Last night, Lumiel went down hard and stayed down.  Earlier in the evening I had been noticing some stuttering.  Not rubberbanding that you get from packet loss, but the kind of stuttering that just seemed like it was server side.  I say this because it was an effect I hadn't seen in the game before.

Then I started getting disconnects.  Then the server went down and stayed down.   That's not exactly accurate.  It cycled, rebooting and then crashing all night.

I think it is reasonable to assume that they have severely lowered the population cap of Lumiel until they can diagnose and fix last night's problem.  Server queus are bad.  Complete server meltdowns that last an entire night are even worse.  They obviously chose the lesser of the two evils.

Or it could just be that since the server was down yesterday, everyone is playing today!  :)

So If I were to buy the game tomorrow, which I am seriously considering, will I be able to play on a new server or will I have to wait 9 years in a que? Are the que times for the established servers only?

On my server (Vidar EU) it's going worse and worse. Usually we had 2 hours queue at peak time (around 8 pm) but you could log in pretty fast if you came in earlier like 6 pm. Tonight it was already 2 hours at 6 pm and some of my friends who came in around 8 pm had to wait like 3 hours (more than 3k people in the queue).

It seems very few people have left our server to go on the new one, and I guess some others are buying the game and want to join some friends who already play on our server.

All of this will eventually be fixed of course. For someone who wants to buy the game but isnt in a hurry, I would advise to wait a few more weeks to get a better gaming experience.

It looks like they'll be adding some more servers to the mix soon. I think the main problem was the AFK Shops, which were basically taking up a slot for a player on that server for hours on end, now there's a 30m kick-out timer it should help aleviate a lot of those problems. I'm not sure what happens with the AFK Shop though when the player's connection is booted, because if it does not disconnect them properly...the problem is still there.

If you are in the US, then the new server, Meslamtaeda, was available all night last night without queues.  Make sure you roll on it if you want to play without queues.   (so far)  All other US servers were queued.  Mine (Lumiel) was queued for over 2 hours and we have never had a queue before.

If you are in the UK, then I would wait.  Just read through the comment section to see what a disaster that launch has been.  It remains to be seen if the new EU servers will be up and when.

I might add, that if you are in the US, the new server is great.  It's only been open a day so there are no high level people, but it's a fun reset and restart of the game.
