I dont see the attraction of changing race TBH, but I guess some will, atleast the choice is there.

I think it would only apply to those competitive players, like a BE BM hunter changing to an Orc for the +5% pet damage. It's not game breaking and if you have a faction change may aswell have a race change too.

But I wonder if people will be able to change to Worgen/Goblins when they come out hopefully not.

Oh, lets copy SOE some more.

Those RMT shops are not far away in Wow either now. You can change name, server, sex, race and class as long as you pay for it, it is the SOE way.

Why can't companies steal these policys from Arenanet instead?

First off, you can not change your class. So therefore there is no change to game play besides racial abilities. Know what you're talking about before you try to make a negative comment.

Just another way for Blizzard to make money... It was faction not too long ago, and race not too long from now, who's to say that changing gender/class may not be possible for the future.

Personally, I'm tired of gaming companies cooking up creative ways to squeeze you for revenue. If their focus is on building a good solid game that will keep players interested and spreading to other players, they wouldn't have to think up ways to generate income.

The circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It's what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are.

Yeah, because Blizzard comes to your house, puts a gun to your head, and forces you to pay to change races.  Christ, some people will bitch about anything.

People WANT this.  People have been WANTING this, for years, and Blizzard gives it to them.  Right, right, because the most successful MMO in the history of the genre is just so starved for revenue that they need this to keep afloat financially.

Quit bitching just to bitch.  This isn't forced on anyone, and none of the RMT crap that they've allowed has in any way, shape or form, affected gameplay on any level that would give one person an edge over someone else.

Who did wrong? The advertiser hired to sell the game or the consumer who put faith in advertising?

Can you give me the accurate definition of 'business' because like a rube, I have been thinking that business = an institution to make money. Can you give me the list of acceptable businesses which have chosen NOT to make money; because I the only ones I've seen who have chosen that path don't seem to be in business very long - for some bizarre reason.

Tell me, how much money will blizzard squeeze from you with this money making scheme? So far I haven't seen the email forcing me to change races.

Somehow I got it in my head that Blizzard was responding to their consumers who asked for this service, somehow I thought the only ones who would pay would be those who wanted the service - am I missing the fine print?

Well...in retrospect, perhaps the problem is not blizzard, this service or the purpose of business, the problem seems to be you.

A no BS perspective

Oy... I seem to have incited some heated responses. Sweet.

1. I merely pointed out that this is another ploy for a Blizzard to generate income. I did not say that this is not norm business model. But for the sake argument, there are not-for-profit organization out there, and Blizzard is most certainly not one of them.

2. I have not known any players who had wished they could change the race of their characters, so I cannot defend or refute the claim that Blizzard is simply giving the players what they want. Although what I will say is that as a gamer, I would have done my homework before selecting a race to play. In my opinion, while being to switch faction is very cool, especially if you find out your fiends play the opposing and you wish to join them; However, changing other specifications of a character simply encourages bad habits for bad players.

3. It's one thing to find creative ways to generate income, but I still believe the focus should be on the game itself, rather than always giving into what players want. As a previous article on the "Hype Train" has mentioned, it is impossible to appease every player, and a game that does will suffer the consequences for it, because you can bet that it won't meet the success that WoW has achieved. I want a game that is distinguishable from another.

Well if you incited heated responses it was because of the tone you took; using words like 'ploy' or 'squeezing players for reveue' you conjur the image of Ebeneezer Scrooge ringing his hands in twisted delight.....but if this were true, then Blizzard simply would not have instituted this change - they stood to make a larger profit from leaving things with simply the faction change option.

You see, prior to this change, you could change races.

25$ for a faction change,  let's say orc to human.

25$ for another faction change, from human to say troll.

That means that Blizzard if 'ploying' , 'scheming' or 'squeezing' stands to make 50$ from those wanting a race change, instead, they have chosen an option which will net them half that profit.

I stand by my claim that if a business offers you a service, they have a right to profit from that service. This is not a scheme, ploy or way of squeezing you, this is standard practice, as you yourself indicated. The problem was that you implied this is somehow 'wrong' or 'evil'.

And those 'not-for-profit' orgs you mentioned - they are not businesses, they are charities or social services for the most part. Their motive is to provide a needed service, not make money. If their aim is to make money, that makes them a business.

Blizzard is above the board. They don't try to 'fool' anyone into their extra costs; they leave that choice to the consumer.

So, do you really think Blizzard is underhanded? Have they ever been anything but above the board on any service they provide? Do customers know what they are purchasing when they get a faction change, server change, name change, etc? Your tone implied they are not. So you have to prove that this service is really a 'ploy' otherwise you are just QQing.

Now, if what you are really debating is the idea of capitalism, that is a much headier debate and I can certainly think of a few businesses that put Blizzard to shame if you want to discuss the inherent evils of capitalism. The guy making video games certainly isn't the company that will bring capitalism to their knees.

There is one simple reason that this is NOT true. When Blizzard implemented the faction change, they put the stipulation in that if you went Horde --> Alliance --> Horde, your second horde character would go back to the same race you initially were.

Well I've used all my character slots so a race change will be my only chance for playing a Worgen. + the racials need to be considered for pvp.
