I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast for I intend to go in harm's way. |
I think it's funny how people bash Aion and hate it because of the server queues and the grind (though I have yet to see a grind). People say Aion will fail due to long server queue times. What this tells NCSoft is that even after a week of being officially launched the game is doing very well because people have been willing to repeatedly wait in these queues to play this game. People want to play because they think the game is good enough to wait in teh queue. I've sat in several queues and not once sat there and had a nerd rage because of it. I just minimize and watch videos or surf the web while i wait. People flame the server queues because they hate waiting to play for a game that they think is good. NCSoft is implementing new servers, slowly, but they are. They want to make sure Aion will stay successful before spending a lot of money on costly servers. They don't want a repeat of what happened with WAR. Then you have the people who complain about the grind. I don't notice a grind. I always have a quest to do without doing the repeatable quests, I even have some quests while are 3-4 levels below me because I've been lvling doing all the campaigne quests and other quests as they come along. This game only has a level cap of 50 and hitting that cap shouldn't be a fast process so I can see some people who are used to quickly getting to the top being bummed out because it takes them 6 hours or so to go from 19-20. Aion is a beautiful game once you get past the server queues and think about the fact that the game takes longer to get to the top. Graphically it's one of the most beautilful games out there. It has an artistic flare to it that gives the game style over shear looks. The color choices really bring the world out as well. On the sound side of the house, the music gives it the Asian appeal with an epic feel to it. Some of the tunes fit really well and others are strange yet fitting. Aion is probably one of the smoothest games I have played. What I think is funny is I have three subscriptions (WoW, Champions Online, Aion) and after just a few hours of playing on the first day I keep finding myself waiting in queue to play rather than hop onto one of the other games. I didn't make this post to say AION IS THE GREATEST...but more just point some of the underlying facts people tend to forget. Server queues this long after launch means the game is really good in the eyes of the players. Making reaching the level cap more of a challenge just means they don't want you to hit cap in a month so you can flame the boards about lack of content end-game because you have no patience.

Well it's useless anyway, it's easier persuading a wall to move then convincing a troll/basher to change opinion or some of them call it "fact". |

I agree with both of you. I'm glad your having fun as I am also. People tend to forget that their opinions really don't matter. Everyone has opinions, but does that make them the universal truth??? NO! |

hence the reason aions doing so well alot enjoy it and alot of going to it. The only reason ppl diss games of this site is when there really popular or if the individual just has a strong dislike of it |

It's simple really... It is sad, but true. At least partly. Opinions don't matter......but like you said only at a personal level. "The more people that are happy with the game, the more people will play it. It's simple really..." if that was true than more people would be playing a lot more games. I hate to bring it up, but WoW would still have the numbers that it used to have if what you said was true.

I appreciate u making a positive post about Aion. I have the game on the way to my home in the states and i plan on playing it on R&R. It really is helpful when people post about the positives about a game. Its too easy to be negative about things in life. Its hard to have your own mind and to stay optimistic. Thanks again |

I would wait to see if Aion still has the same numbers after everyones free month is over. People are trying to get in now cause they paid for the game. Having to constantly wait in line for hours will not help people decide to renew after their free month. FYI Long queue times dont make a game good. That statement holds no logic. No dissing the game just saying too early to call it a success. |

A lot of people dont want to waste an hour 'surfing the web' when they have paid to play a game.
And what most people are complaining about when they bring up the grind is that the quests are completely unoriginal and the same thing over and over. Even worse is that in the 20ies you are stuck doing repeatable quests for poor rewards.
Aion is fine for people just looking for something easy to frollic around in for a while, but for those looking for something that is even remotely inspiring or exciting they will have to keep looking.
As for pretty graphics and animations - they only help the first impression because they are essentially meaningless after thousands of hours of gameplay. |

I don't understand the complains about the grind either. |

My wife and I switched to a low pop server and we have no queue. Some areas only have 5 channels also as opposed to 10. If you like playing on a very populated server that is fine, but if you don't like queues try a low pop server. That said, I like the game. It will be a good switch from the other games I have played. Still not post 20 yet, but looking ahead at how Stigma works and how the RvR PvP is laid out it looks like it will be very interesting. Well you dont mind it but I do. Its like buying a ticket to cinema on a movie that you really want to see now and after entering the cinema there are no seats lef and they will tell you "hey come on another day" but on next day again no seats left... rinse and repeat. I dont buy that. If there are enough servers and no queues, I will consider to buy it |

Yeah, I don't blame you. If it was something like 5 to ten minutes I wouldn't mind, but if it was anything like some had to deal with that's just too much. I know things happen when you launch a game but I'm not going to defend people having to wait in queues for hours for days. It just isn't acceptable to me regardless of whether it happened to me directly. Like I've said though, it seems at least on the NA side things are pretty much ironed out and hopefully those were affected get some free time sent their way. |

Umm. Grind is a really old and boring concept for an mmorpg. I'd much rather play an open and immersive mmorpg. Spending forever grinding on cute panda-like creatures isn't that much fun imo, you should try more games.

Exactly if everyone was unhappy and didnt want to play then there wouldnt be any queues lol, still everyday there are queues for hours on end ppl getting in and out, so it seems like for most ppl its worth the wait.

For what its worth, Sunday I asked my son in law if he had any trouble getting on and he said no. I know he plays later at night and didnt think to ask him what server he is on. He also lives in flyover country U.S.A. It has to be true, i have internet links. |

This website has always been a breeding pit for trolls and hypers. I come here to laugh mostly but hardly take anything most posters say with a grain of salt. I do like post like the OP's though, as he's fair and not overlty on one side of the fence. I have not posted on this site for a long time, but I want to post now. I am playing Aion and personally I don't mind the minimal grinding i've had to do (I had max jobs in FFXI) or the queues (WoW/WotLK on release.) The game might not be that inventive, but lets be honest, a game does not have to break the mold to be great game... Aion is solid, polished, looks great, plays great and has new content. Embrace your inner Angel :) |

Never mind the grind/queues and all that, but what's up with all these reports of Aion already becoming a Botter's playground where people are seeings alot of bots just swarming certain areas, not to mention the gold spam that many people have reported?
That is what is going to kill Aion in this country (USA) in the long run, if NCSoft doesn't do anything about it. As long as they continue to stick around, the game economy is going to be destroyed. |
