Which mmorpg so far has the best PvE available. By PvE I mean things like Questing, Unique storylines or quests. Different ways of accomplishing goals, unique character development , group challenges. Basically any co-op or solo experience in the game that does not involve fighting another player. This includes crafting.

(I am only putting strong PvE focused games on the poll since I won't have room for every game Ill have to double up on some).

If you know of a better PvE game please feel free to post it.

Which of these mmorpg games has the best PvE?

Lord of the rings online
Age of Conan
Final Fantasy XI
Everquest 1 and / or 2
World of warcraft
Guild wars
City of Heroes / Villains
Dungeons and Dragons online
Lineage / Lineage 2
Darkfall

That's a difficult one to answer.

DDO has great story and flow to the PvE but WOW has PvE that a player can easily lose track of time doing because of the endless supply of floating question marks. Then there's the first 20 levels of AoC that really was well done.... and the neat tricks and effects in different EQ2 quests. And then there is the dynamic loot and the rare items in Asheron's Call that makes it so that even at high levels there is still plenty of reason to always check each and every kill.  Each one seems to be pretty strong in a different area of PvE.

I would personally say I'm stuck between FFXI and LoTRO.

FFXI Iv gotten 3 level 75 characters before and I spent about 4 years playing it. There is just so much to do in that game once you reach around level 60 you can spend months not touching a monster and getting content done. Most of which you will gain benefits  and permanent improvements that you will be happy you did years later. That on top of great storylines.

LOTRO has an overall good balance of PvE, I reached level 35 on that game and was surprised by the quality storytelling in that game. Quests are very well made and invoke all of Tolkiens lore into the game.  If you are a fan of LoTRO the game is solid gold. It's everything a true fan could wish for and more. Even has lower price tag than most mmorpgs on the market much lower than P2P games and WAY lower than "FREE" 2 play Pay 2 win games.

Hmm at first i looked at the graph i thought AOC? wtf,it was hard to see witch was what lol.

No question at all ,it is FFXI,the game was designed from level 1 up to be centered around grouping and PVE.IMO solo play i not PVE,it is solo and follows the path of a single player game.I mean is there ANYONE out there that will state Baldur's gate or Might N Magic are the best PVE games?of course not because they are solo minded single player games.

FFXI is NOT solo minded or a single player game,it designed perfectly to be a MMORPG PVE game, and IMO although Everquest comes close ,FFXI is the best at it.Certain aspects in EQ made it a joke, like giving healers plate armour, that is just wrong.

Here is the problem.Developers are after money and they care little of what kind of game they develop to do it.This is why it is much simpler to make a fast rinse and repeat game.Players can pop in ,play 15 minutes and gain a level. Why gaining that level matters is beyond me,but that seems to be the mentality of most of these gamers. They go out kill a mob every 15 seconds, non stop because they can pop healing potions. Then you get a game like WOW that further caters to these kiddie designs by not only offering simplistic killing rotations but linking simplistic quests to them for ridiculous rewards. So the cycle continues,we will see a lot more of these games coming.

I think LoTRO did a good job, but there was still a fair amount of grinding for different things as well-

Conan starts very, very strong. The first 20 levels were some of the most fun I ever had in an MMO- but then you get into farming for PvP and daily missions...yawn.

I think the best pure PvE experiences are easily DDO, the best dungeons and there are alot of them and then Guild Wars.

If you have not been in GW in a while I would try it. There are 3 campaigns plus an expansion pak. I forgot how great that game was, with my computer (of todays specs) I can turn DDO and GW all the way up and they are both better than Aion or WoW, graphically. Rich, immersive stories, well written dialog. And loads of fun.

GW or DDO, both worthwhile, excellent game efforts in my opinion. Unlike many MMO's today, neither game seems rushed, both are well designed and thought out. Yeah you can solo in them, you can also have a party, up to you and your gaming choice. Both games always have groups of players LFG, and both are very well poulated.

I would had voted LotrO but sadly the have dumbed it down for the soloers to much, hopefully Mirkwood expansion will have more focus on grouping...

So I voted DDO instead since its the best MMO for grouping and have a great, social community.

But there is alot of good PvE MMOs out, its just that all with PvP focus have been major dissapointments.

If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

I've played all the games on your list except FFXI and Darkfail, and I'd say the winner is EQ2 by a long-shot. The character depth and customization is terrific. The lore, quests, array of spells and abilities, amount of races and classes to choose from - there's nothing that comes close to it. Crafting is a ton of fun in EQ2 as well. There's a ton of Alternate Advancement you can gain for your character, and they keep adding more.

Not to mention... even grinding mobs in EQ2 requires a competent gamer unless you intentionally seek out the weakest mobs to grind w/ your character class. Otherwise the AI is pretty decent, and at higher levels just about any encounter could kill you if you get lazy.

in doctrine that provide true believers excuse for mayhem.

I have a hard time taking the PvE seriously in games where you spend your time standing in one place watching cooldowns and auto-attacking. I have a hard time taking a raid seriously when the strategy to complete it is choreographed by the designer (most apparent in WoW post TBC and not quite as bad before TBC).

So my top choice is DDO. Games like Spellborn and Champions are good (and neither are on the list), but they don't have the depth of options and variety that DDO has.

It always a question of opinion.

Ill go with FACTS first:

Which game have the most subscribers....hmm its hard to tell lol, WOW? YES

It is  because a game that have over 5,6.7 and up to 11 millions of subscribers make  this a good pve game?

Unless there's over 11 millions tards that pay mountly fees over and over and over, this is good indicator of the quality of a game. PVE included. the answer is  Yes

That's it for the FACTS, now my  opinions:

I try severals game over the course of the years and some were good and some were bad but I always came back to WOW, Why?

End my opinion...

First, I'd like to say very interesting poll. I haven't ever really stopped to think about it. I've tried every game on the list except Darkfall (though I roleplayed in the forums a few years back) and Lineage 1.

My two least favorite games were Lineage 2 and Lord of the Rings. The games just could not pull me in.

The game I spent the most time in was City of Heroes, mainly because of the diverse character creator. If this game had a bit more story and diversity of mobs to fight, it would be in the top three knocking DDO down a notch.

Final Fantasy would have been higher, but the game is a little difficult for most with the bad PC controls.

Everquest 2 and World of Warcraft are on about the same level, but I liked WoW for the Hunter/pet class, and EQ2 because it felt a little more real.

My top favs actually fell with Age of Conan, Dungeons and Dragons, and Guild Wards.
DDO fell in third because of the changes made since I last played. I loved the new starter island, but once to the main land, most of the quests were solo only. This forced our group to disband, which none of us liked.
AoC went next, just because of the high system demands. Also, the game wasn't as good after 20, but it was still a good game.
I chose GW as the top because of low system requirements, solo capable when brining NPC team (still felt kinda like grouping), liked their version of instances better than Champions, and good story from the beginning, plus it has a hunter/pet combo that I always enjoy playing (i think every game should have one).

I'm surprised you don't have Vanguard listed as an option. Many great questlines (solo and group), 15 diverse classes that all play differently, very in-depth crafting system that I've yet to see rivalled, and a Diplomacy sphere that offers a new form of gameplay not found in any other MMOs.

There is a reason it's called Everquest...and that's cuz there are bazillions of quests. Are they fun...meh..sometimes

I like DDO and LOTROs instances. Sadly DDO instances also kill it for me. Fun once, not 3x.

WoW had quit a bit of decent PvE and I never really felt like I was grinding. I think that is key to PvE.

Personally I favor games like Champions Online and Warhammer where there is something massive going on and I just join in.Public quests should be in every game.

Of the games ive played i would say EQ2 and LOTRO offer the best PVE experience. Ive heard Vanguard as well but have yet to try it.

It has to be true, i have internet links.

I would say Guild Wars by far. It's the only game that I've actually re-played PvE by choice. The quests are interesting and have an over arching storyline.

I'm absolutely shocked that WoW is number one. I quit WoW because I couldn't stand how absolutely dull, boring, and un-imaginative WoW's PvE was.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

dont know for other but for me vanguard is too big could not run it

lagged like hell there was none around and if i set it low enough it looked bad so i never reached level 2

eq2 look is way better and you just replace graphic on your graphic card and thats almost ,not a lot of tweaking needed in game

reolution and shadow in game need to be tweaked thats it

EVE is a great PVE game.  No seriously, it really is.

Sure, it might not have raiding in the WOW/EQ sense, but it offers many PVE activities including mission running, complexes, rich industry (crafting), involved mining (gathering), trading, exploring, ratting, sleeper ratting (advanced AI rats), questing (new story arcs are quite involved and take some real time)  and market manipulation.

Heck, you can even call scamming a solid PVE activity because its legal and comes in so many possible varieties including common item selling scams, contract scams, mis-marked items in market up to the big scams, such as stealing an entire corps BPO collection with multi billions, or in countless other ways.

No, people often say EVE is a bad PVE game, and I say they are totally wrong.

If you discount the raiding factor, EVE's one of the best games out there.

I always enjoyed Starwars Galaxies for PvE , before the NGE came in and I quit the game.

Eve Online, I pretty much over the years I subscribed only played PvE so it can't have been that bad really. Dabbled in PvP but never really got into it.

DDO, started off ok, really enjoyed the quests for about the 1st 6 months but soon I felt it became boring and I cancelled my subscription. Have resently been back to the game when it went F2P but the game just didn't hold my attention for very long.

*EDIT*

ohh I forgot,

Runes of Magic, not a bad little game F2P, alot like WoW in many ways (but what MMO isn't :p) PvE content was pretty good, although I got too the point, I suppose I get too with many MMO's where I just didn't feel like it was fun anymore. But then I played through Open beta and it was really only after they had issues with fraud and started restricting the game alittle , that I lost interest.

I'm not supprised to see the highest game in the poll being WoW (which I got bored of in open beta btw and never subscribed too) but I can't help but think the poll might reflect more the ammount of people voting that actually played those games, WoW obviously having the most players so ever likley to come out top. Yhats just IMO.  :)

Honestly, it depends.

Objectively and Overall?  Sad but true, it is probably WoW.

Subjectively?  Honestly, about any depending on personal preference.  They are all so similar in regards to pve.  DDO I would label as the only "unique" one on your list, and would probably be fun if you didn't have to grind the same instances over and over.

I actually kinda like some of the things that have been done to EVE lately that could be considered "pve".  Take exploration and wormholes, they are pve and are interesting (to me).  If all you look at are missions and rats, then yeah, EVE is lame pve.
