I played this game for about 6 months, while i was unemployed & doing interviews last year.

The game at first sucked me in hardcore because it was so different then anything else I had played. The graphics & sound were unbelievable & fit the mood quite well. I was anxious to move up the ship ladder into something better. Frigate -> cruiser -> battle cruiser -> battleship -> t2 stuff.

Anyways, I joined a guild, participated in mining, got level 4 missions, was doing ok myself. I had a battleship with all the trimmings & what have you. It wasn’t until we got into 0.0 space that the game opened up & it started to become clear, that the game was changed forever. 0.0 space is awesome, in the sense that players can control vast areas of space, through force. It was a constant challenge to patrol borders & defend stations, go on hunts etc. Yeah the idea is fun, but let me tell you, when there is nothing to kill & your out like a dozen or more systems away from the nearest dock able station or pos, hey man your fucked. You got to stay in that group until they decide to return. If your bored & want to do something else, tough shit.. Unless you're eager to pod yourself & lose your precious implants & ship.

That's when i started to see the limitation of the game. I tried to make things efficient. Had a fully outfitted battleship in high sec for level 4 missions, another one at the pos for ratting & had cheaper ships (fitted for pvp) in 0.0 station. For a while life in 0.0 was good, but like all things, change is inevitable. People would shift over to new things, shitty players would get weeded out, alliance would fall, new ones formed, new enemies made from old friends etc...

Yeah the game is ever evolving, & it's all player driven, which is cool. A few weeks in 0.0, dying & what have you, long enough to understand how to get around, the safest routes etc. You start to figure out that nothing is permanent, especially your ship! The only way i could around was a bit a luck & a lot of hope, with the odd report here & there. about spotted reds. Unfortunately the one major complain I have & this came as a revelation. I was just thinking & it occurred to me, the cycle. THE CYCLE as I call it is the following :
1)You lose you ship in pvp
2)You mission/ rat /mine for cash to buy a new ship
3)You lose your ship in pvp
4)You mission/ rat /mine for cash to buy a new ship
This is the NEVER ENDING CYCLE

There are only 3 ways I know of to make dependable money. Sure you can pvp & sell what you find or do the inventing stuff that’s cool too, but it just lacked. After a while you get bored of the same ratting spots, the same missions, trying to hunt down exploration sites& and mining is the most BORING thing in the game. It's second to traveling around, this game if you want to get to a destination there’s no setting via star trek to warp 8 and go grab a cub of earl-grey. No! You go from a->b->c all the way to z & hope you don’t get ganked, hope that along the way your internet doesn’t give out on you & hope for the love of god that the last several hours spent farming for money isn’t going to disappear in front of your face in a blink of an eye. Its the entire back & forth thing, i wish they had a way to move around faster without it being impractical.

I even had my own POS (as in player owned station), Which is a MAJOR responsibility because if you don’t fuel the damn thing & check it daily with a cloaked transport ship or have an alt just for that , it goes offline over time. & nobody in the guild (opps! sorry CORPORATION) wanted to have that added responsibility. Sp yeah ultimately the game went from being interesting & different to being different but the same crap as other games. (If that makes any sense.) Add to it a monthly fee which is like  my internet bill  (i had the alt account too), $36 a month (hell thats HIGHER then my internet bill). it didn’t make sense to play a game that became boring.

Anyways that was my experience & I don’t play anymore. I tried a few free mmo's, but you know what, they are all the same. I think after several years with mmo's I’ve reached my limit. But hey, there are still people playing EVE so, good luck to them & to you if you still play.

Well, you only get as much out as you put in. If all you did was:

PVP - Die - Mission/Rat/Mine - Rinse and Repeat

That's all you get. Or, you get involved in the politics, move up in your corp/alliance.

Like me, I started off pretty solidly, I went in with 3 other friends and we joined a corp for newbs. After a while we decided that we wanted to start our own thing, so we broke off (peacefully) and started out own corp, although we stayed part of the same alliance as the newb corp. As we grew, the alliance expected more of us but gave less. They were asking us to put our most skilled pilots (flying T2 drakes, ravens, and megas) our to fight their war and what did they give us to help us, help them, with this effort? 25 Tristans, fitted with Civilian Railguns.... That was the final straw. We sent them back their Tristans, sent them a very polite EVEMail telling them that we were losing, not gaining, by staying in the alliance. We gave them 25 million for the two months we were there, and went off our own. At this point, we had a 30 man corp, based around missioning and mining

Today? We have expanded into three different corporations, one for missions and PvP, one for mining and production, and one for new recruits to be trained. Collectively we have entered our own alliance, The Phoenix Consortium. Which was funded by the 4 founding members (myself and the three friends) and one other member we had brought into the corp, that became very good friends with us.

Currently we are slowly expanding out of being only in Gallente space and going into Low Sec too.

Like I said, I get a lot out of EVE, you can if you attempt to. I have more fun with it than that monotonous cycle.

You nailed real life right on the head. That's why I decided to kill myself last year. Everything goes in circles: You wake up, you eat, you take a dump, you go to work/school/whatever, you eat lunch, you come home, you eat dinner .... every day is the same.

No seriously I lied. I didn't kill myself, but if I'm bored I try to do the stuff I like instead of having to kill myself.  I play EVE too and I don't mine and you know why? Because I think it's boring.

Well, you seem to have several issues with EVE and corporations, not sure I could address them all to your satisfaction.

But I will say, you've overlooked one key new way to make money and that's through living in wormholes.

I recently moved in to a WH, and what I like is being able to earn 100M ISK for two easy hours of work killing sleepers. (yet, there's still an element of risk, we lost a ship the other night)

You get to build up your POS, your fleet, your wallet, and every now and then, PVP when someone comes too close.

It doesn't solve all the issues you mentioned, but if you are looking for something new and fresh in EVE, consider trying to get into a higher class WH team.

"A very special kind of stupidity"

It sounds to me like you've gotten stuck in a rut of doing things you dont like. Stop doing them. At 6 months you're just at the stage where advanced options are really opening up for you - dont quit now!

OP you could consider switching to a corp that operates in NPC 0.0 - lots of NPC stations to dock in. Or lo-sec.

Also you can train cloaky ships - one huge advantage of those is that they can travel pretty safely. Bombers and Force Recons are great ships to fly.

If the POS is pissing you off, take it down and sell it. There's nothing remotely mandatory about having one. They are labour intensive - they're meant to be.

Don't worry about what people think, they rarely do.

All I can take from this is you hit a wall, got bored and quit, and it had more to do with you than the game. It seems curious to me how you went from "rut, no way to make money, always the same", to "if I owned a POS and responsiblity". What about the responsiblility of running a corp with several POS's?

There is a lot more to the game than you realize or took part in, but after reading your post, mostly, I find myself looking for a point.

You sound like you gave it a solid shot and had fun for a bit, so all I can say is.

Thank you for supporting CCP with two box purchases and six months of subs for both accounts.

Good luck in your next game.

As a Next game suggestion maybe try one of the other sandbox games? Ryzom, DF or FE. Please support games trying to deliver a different experience, happy hunting.

Why would I play a pathetic themepark MMO when I could enjoy a masterpiece like Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age?

i make all my cash via invention, manufacture and trade. its enough to keep me in hacs and recons and capital skillbooks. you need to find something you enjoy in eve, if you are not having fun with it, move on and do something else, if there is nothing in eve you enjoy, then leave. im glad you gave it a decent shot, pity it didnt work out. perhaps we'll see you in a few years if you decide to have a second shot?

Sorry to say to "Mr. Op", but Sir, you suck at new ideas.

There are plenty more ways to fund yourself in EVE. Don't waste your time on things you don't like. I make hundreds of millions a day with less then an hour spent without shooting a single ammo, lighting a 'roid or touching a POS. I won't tell you what do I do, of course. Be more creative, its a big sandbox, build your own sandcastle.

I agree 100% with this statement.

You gave Eve a good shot, and we thank you.  As metelhead980 said, you may want to try the other sandbox games he listed. You might find the right mix you are looking for , and who knows you might even come back to eve.

Best of Luck

Thug, Thief, Killer, Pirate

You can make money in other ways, for an example a guy in my corp has a project where he goes out one day a week and provokes some mission runners and then taking thier loot and this is his current tally so far:-

"4 x Raven Navy Issues
1 x Stolen Raven Navy Issue
1 x Faction Fitted Drake
1 x Drake
1 x Golem

So far, the modules/ships i have recieved:

1 x Caldari Navy Invulnerability Field (400,000,000 Total)
1 x Caldari Navy Shield Boost Amplifier (125,000,000 Total)
1 x Caldari Navy Heavy Missile Launcher (60,000,000 Total)
3 x Caldari Navy Ballistic Control System (300,000,000 Total)
11 x Caldari Navy Cruise Missile Launcher (550,000,000 Total)
4 x Pithii B-type Small Shield Booster (520,000,000 Total)
1 x Gist X-Type 100MN Afterburner (230,000,000 Total)
1 x Gist X-Type Large Shield Booster (900,000,000 Total)
1 x Raven Navy Issue (650,000,000 Total)
1 x 'Donation' (400,000,000 Total)

Total Isk Aquired: 4,135,000,000"

So in a month at one day a week hes made four billion ISK and hasnt had to spend hours ratting or missioning or searching for complexes and no need to check market orders every 15 mins to make sure someone hasnt undercut you by 0.1 ISK and no hauling stuff about for manufactoring and wasting ISK on failed invention jobs hes made his money purely through piracy.

Even just casual solo pvp in cheaply fitted cruisers or battlecruisers can be profitable as you can earn the same amount of money with one standard ship kill (anywhere from 5-20m for meta 4/T2 fitted ship) to keep you in ships and dont forget ransoms as well, if you fly in blobs its never profitable because the loot and ransoms are to dliuted to be a reliable income.

I agree with the OP, Eve is just about as boring as all the other MMOs out there if not more so.

Why are you on a site called MMORPG.com if you hate MMO's?

Regardless, if you find EVE boring, why not try joining a corp or something.
