 I got the game for free, and upon activation, yes, it charged me for another month of play. Instead of being dramatic and flaming them for it, I simply did the intelligent thing and contacted customer support. My 15 dollars is safely back in my bank account.

And MMO_DOUBTER - No, they have NO reason to refund you that one month. You bought the card, it's not their fault. Next time, don't spend money recklessly and expect someone else to fix it. Frankly, that'd be like going to Burger King and buying 3 Whoppers, after eating two, you're too full to eat the third. So, you walk up to the counter and ask to get your money back for the third. It doesn't work like that. You bought it, you need to absorb the cost now. Give the account to a friend that may want to try it if you want to make use of your money, but it wasn't NCSoft's fault. You paid for a month of play, they gave it to you.

...and that is what PayPal is for.  You can pay directly from your bank account with PayPal.

There is also something in NA called a Debit Card, a bank card with a Mastercard or Visa card logo that can be used anywhere a credit card can, even online, and takes the funds directly from your bank account. 

I myself do not have actual credit cards, I have a Visa logo debit card from one bank and a Mastercard logo one from another, because some places still do not take one or the other.  I have no problems getting things online via these cards.  I would suggest checking with your banks, or your parents bank as the case may be, to see if this is an available service to you.
 

Wow!! One thing is clear for sure, some people need to spend less time playing games and more time working on their education, especially reading and comprehension. It really isn't rocket science you have options for  the method of activation, it is the responsibility of the customer to decide which of the offered methods they will use to activate.

honestly you guys act like this is par the course for mmo's and it probably is but that doesnt mean it isnt a little shady it should be my choice if i want to pay for the next month with a game card when i bought wow burning crusade andwotlk i could check the radio button that said use game card i didnt have to add cc info and i dont feel i should have to i shouldnt have to cancel anything it should be just  that easy to check ill use game card ncsoft is just hoping you forget you gave em cc and they can charge your cc when the time comes due oh and i do have cc on file for my master account and yet im still required to re enter it very shady indeed

Again you fail at reading and comprehension you do not have to have a credit card. You have choices it is your responsibility to make theese choices. notice it clearly says you can use a credit card ,paypal,OR a gamecard it does not say one is the preferred method they are clearly choices.If in fact this isnt the case then and only then do you have a legit gripe with ncsoft ,but so long as they clearly tell you what your options are it is entirely up to you the customer to controll your money.

The ice cream-gamecard one, if made properly, would have stated that in order to get the the free second ice cream, you would need to buy the third, not that buying the third was an arbitrary decision.

The hamburger one is the same just worse, if possible.

That's the biggest crap i've ever heard, first off all i live in Holland as well, sure we have PIN and yes, most do indeed use Ideal, then again there's the dutch www.gamecard.nu (It allows you to buy a gamecard, and they send you your code within 2 minutes always, period)

Again, there's PayPal,  you can link your PayPal account to your Bank Acount (Ie Ing/Rabo whatever it is that you use).
So when you pay something through PayPal , it takes money straight from you bank, now if you think about it.  It is exactally the same as Ideal.

The OP is wrong, oh so wrong. Look around you, welcome to 2009, if the OP fails to pay with CC there are other options available. (PayPal and gamecards). This is how it's being done everywhere.

You have to realise Ideal is only available for us Dutchies, so you cant complain that a company does not have Ideal at start, sure they might get it sometimes, but not right away. Instead of introducing a ''only this country special payment option'' they introduced worldwide payment option.

And if you cant have PayPal, or a CC or even get of your lazy ass to order a GameCard, then i have no clue why you are whining that you need to pay for MMO"s. just leave.

What I am saying is that if you cancel in the first month and had activated the account with a game card (not a CC), then you paid for that first month.

Actually the game card pays for the month following the free month. If you decide not to take advantage of that and quit early, it`s your own fault  for not using the month that the card covers.

How can you not know this?! This is how every pay to play game will work. Every single one. And don't tell me it's because you're new. I was new once, and this concept did not escape me. You pay every month in order to keep paying.

You can use gamecards if you want. Just buy a new one and apply it each month, and your credit card will not be used. You have to buy the gamecard to activate the game with it, obviously. And THEN you need to buy a new card to give you another month of play. You don't have to use your CC ever. And if you are too afraid to use your CC online, good riddance to you. If you aren't stupid enough to get caught in a phishing scam, you have nothing to worry about. And if you just don't like CCs on principle, you can use a debit card which takes money right out of your bank account.

This is information you need to have to function in this world. This is like buying a cell phone and then freaking out that you have to pay for each month. How can you not know that?!

 Some people just don`t get it. All MMO`s operate the same. If you don`t like it, don`t play. Simple. Can we get this thread closed already.

The cheapest you can buy the game for is $50.00 US Dollars brah, which includes a month free. You're doing something dramatically wrong here.

So you expected to get 2 free months when everyone else got one?  Learn to read it says they are giving you exactly what you got.

If you did the same for WoW, then you should know exactly what's going on. As others have said, in order to get your free month mmos require credit card info first. If you take your credit card info off your account after the initial setup, then you'll get your free month without a recurring bill.

Next time before arguing. Learn to goddamn read.
It isn't a scam. Most major MMO's do this. Buy a pre-paid credit card if you're worried. Use paypal whatever.
It's not a scam, and can't be a scam IF THEY WRITE ON THE BACK OF THE BOX WHAT YOU NEED.

It's not so hard is it? You surely took the time to whine and cry foul on the forums yet you're reckless enough with you purchases that you don't bother fully checking out what your buying?
