Was excited, set on getting it on release on the 25'th (EU release date)

I wasn't bothered about the 'it's nothing innovative' thing. because having only played WoW I'm not too bothered. Thing is, I have seen a multitude of posts saying the grind is immense as you hit 20. I enjoyed the OB play I had (I just reached daeva then stopped)

Can anyone with a brain please tell me how they feel about 'the grind' (I know all mmo's must have grinds, otherwise it woulden't be an mmo, but is it as bad as too make you not want to log on?)

I just looked in aion armory and there seems to be plenty of quests 20+ for each level. I'm not sure how people  are hitting this "grinding" wall. Unless by grind they mean they have to kill 15-20 mobs to round out the level..which is nothing..and comparable if you just kill stuff outside the quests regularly.

Hoping that's what they mean, anyway.

It's not like I'm completley against grinding though, it's just after playing wow and doing it for 3 years...not sure if it's worth the time again.

I havn't experienced anything of a grind yet so I have no idea what those posts are about.  I take my time, read the quests, kill the mobs, finish reading the quests, and move forward.  Did I mention I'm having a blast doing so? :D

If you had fun in OB up till 10, I'd go pick up the game, I doubt you'll be dissapointed.

I don't see it as a grind honestly,i've played MMOs that was ALOT slower at leveling. and the thing is the cap is only 50 in this game and at 25 in a few days you're already 1/2 way to max level. But i've always enjoyed leveling up new characters in mmo's, most mmos are kinda limited at max level so i'm never in a hurry to get there.Aion does seem to have alot to do at end game but I'll have to see for myself when i get there. the slower leveling is refreshing to me honenstly, every mmo post WoW has been like power leveling. but its been said before to level 1 to cap(80) in wow takes a lil longer than 1 to cap (50) in Aion. but for me it might actually feel like an accomplishment again when i do hit max level.

I went SM because thats originally attracted me to this game was the SM pets, and the class appeared to be alot like my very first MMO class wich was Magician in EQOA. The pets make me want to level even more to get that next even cooler pet.

You'll need to kill a lot of things along the way, that's for sure... But since you didn't tried the post 10 lvls, I'd suggest you to buy the game and give the free month a go (maybe wait a week or two though.. don't know how it is in EU but NA servers are usually all full with a couple of hours of waiting time..)

Think if you first got interest in the game and enjoyed the first 10 levels.. There's no reason you won't have fun afterwards.. The class choice at level 10 really brings some nice features and combat animation. I've heard the pvpve is a blast in the Abyss (didn't got the chance yet to test it myself)... Grouping is also a lot of fun, you can solo most of the content before the Abyss, but you'll still have more fun doing it with a friend..

Just my 2 cents... I know trying a new MMO sounds like nails on a blackboard with the latest (unfinished) releases.. But like I said before, if you already got interest in the game, don't let the haters change your mind about the grind.. It's really not that bad...

So far the most honest answers I've seen is that the real grind starts after level30.

Between level30 and level50 there is a serious lack of quests. The amount of XP needed per level skyrockets from there.

Cheers

mm one thing is sure being a pro never meant so little then in this game

why you would ask?because of the pace of the fight .you got plenty of time to kite ,dodge attack etc be it rogue or warrior

will player bother with pvp at end game .not sure yet !i for one was expecting announement from ncwest regarding

event and stuff (goal as we would call it but unless im wrong ,game own strengh will have to be enough

ya right !

but my biggest beef is the lack of ncsoft paid card in ebgame or walmart that the biggest problem aion

face the game waiting line isnt too bad if you dont mind to reroll

my suggestion dont roll more then one toon on any server for now

The Dude abides

Seems about the same to me as it does in most other games.  The leveling is a bit slower more like how WoW used to be pre-BC and games of that era so for those that expect to be able to level like you can now in games like WoW, AoC, or Warhammer it is slower.  Personally, I don't think this is a bad thing but whatever.

I cannot speak of what it is like past lvl 25 but I can say up until that point I gained the majority of my xp through doing quests with a mimimal amount gained through gathering/crafting.  I never grinded mobs for the sake of grinding them except for when I needed kills to complete a quest.

Where this notion of this game being anymore of a grind fest than other games is coming from is beyond me.  I liken it to players being used to maybe how fast you can level in games any more and since this one takes a bit longer than what some other newer games have done it feels like a grind to them?  You got me.

The main drawback in this game from a leveling point of view is while I had enough quests to simply level through that there aren't a lot of spare ones left over.  Except for the repeatables, I haven't bothered with any of those.  So the quests you get are for the most part what you'll need to complete to level more or less.  Of course, when those other games released it was the same way for them as well besides having the different starting zone areas but as usual people have a very selective memory.

I will say there are those that say at higher levels there are periods where you run into quest droughts.  However, supposedly the last few patches resolved this issue.  As to whether that is true or not I cannot say myself.

1.For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

2.To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

This part here, I have to disagree with. This is highly dependent on the situation. As in every class has different skills ofcourse, but in Aion the group content is not ez mode. If a sorc or a SM messes up a cc on an add it could wipe your entire group. And as an assasin if a elite mob hits you more than 2 - 4 times your usually dead. So do you have time to kite? Maybe normal quest mobs...but certainly not the group content. Also as far as PVP is concerned, you have more time then in wow to react that is true, however dont underestimate DP and stigma skills. At 18 on my sorc Korai, incase you want to look up my character on Israphel, his DP dishes out 1,250 damage. If i pop flame bolt, then blaze to reduce elemental damage ive just caused 1k in damage, and then i pop my DP thats 2.2k damage in 2 seconds. Now every class side from MAYBE a templar can survive that. So...its highly situational how long the fights last.

since you have only played wow, you might want to stick with that -- I feel sorry for people like you and I mean that.  I was lucky, my first MMO was EQ and have played many since then.  Far To many wow players can simply not step out of that box.  Hopefully you enjoy playing that game for the rest of your natural life.  Its all you've got kid.

Maybe if so much imphasis (sp) wasnt put on the end game people could learn to enjoy the process of getting there more, then it wouldnt be such a grind? As long as when players log on and only look foward to being at level cap, every game will be a big grind to them. Better story, more content (not just more freaking quests) would help greatly to reduce the rush to cap.
