Yikes!

Why would I play a pathetic themepark MMO when I could enjoy a masterpiece like Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age?

Why wouldn't they, EA has many good console games, especially the Madden Football series which does really well.

Wouldn't microsoft owning EA mean that every freaking game is exclusive to only Xbox and PC? kind of messes up PS3 users no?

Taking EA away would virtually kill PS3 hell whats next?

Hell they already own Bioware and a whole bunch of awesome devs houses.

If quality games keep coming from EA and all of its bought Devs I have no problems but when EA starts churning out the sequel machine and quality dilutes ill have an issue.

Wow that is pretty big if it is true.  A giant taken over by an even bigger giant.  Microsoft would have all the EA sports titles and more importantly to all of us the Mythic and Bioware studios under their belt.  Hopefully they would know enough not to interfere with the creative process and be more "hands off".

On the console side like the article said, what would that mean for some of the games that are big on all consoles like the sports titles?  EA sports only on Xbox?  It will be interesting to see if anything comes out of this.

This day and age I would not be surprised if it happens.  After all the Disney deal to buy Marvel is already pretty much a done deal.

I certainly hope this doesn't happen.  Microsoft is notorious for shelving game franchises they own but don't want to make new games for, simply to avoid the competition that those games might bring if released by someone else.  They bought the Mechwarrior rights and after releasing the game that was already in production, dumbed the game down to be mechassault and made it xbox exclusive... then they let one of the best PC game franchises of all time sit and collect dust for most of a decade.   If there is a single game publisher with less scruples and business ethics than EA, it's Microsoft.  :(

Not really, they can keep EA as is and still make loads of money from a successful franchise.

If you were Microsoft and you had a chance to take a major dev that makes a whole shit ton of games away from a rival console would you do it?

I'm sure they would.

For this to happen the amount of Judicial/Legal hurdles that Microsoft would have to jump probably makes buying EA not very attractive.

Sony, Nintendo and probably other Publishers would make a big stint, saying that its was a Monopolistic move. DoJ and the EC/EU Fair Trade Commision would then investigate and give the OK. Remember Activision-Vivendi Merger? That was a cake walk compared to Microsoft buying EA.

Just as an example, compare the Need for Speed franchise to the Forza franchise

It's been updated, this isn't going to happen. Thank god, because if the deal did go through, Sony and PS3 would be screwed
