O.o he said "I'm going back to Warhammer"  right when he said that... I knew he was on BS.

The character creation system is great and lots to fun. Creating your character is more enjoyable than actually playing the character.

Your character looks good when you create it but once you start playing the graphics change to a comic style with black outlines. This art-style is awful. When you zoom out your character looks like it's blurry. It was so horrible I actually canceled my subscription.

Guess I'll have to play Warhammer while I wait for Aion to be released.

Seriously. Horrible gfx...

I love the art style and art creator. I only tried the beta for two levels due to vacation, but what is truly holding me back is the gameplay and lack of thoughts going in to the open skill system...

I was amazed at how much better the graphics looked after I turned off the comic outline. A few of my friends even thought I was playing some old style classic game when I had  the outline on. They was all like I'm not buying that piece of crap..lol

Actually i completely agree with the OP

Graphic are blurry.

Now you cant tell me that Nvidia 8800 GTS is not a good gfx card , its maybe slower than new cards but it has exactly the same picture quality

And if you tell me you have experiment trough advanced graphic setting to get the game to look good, than i ask - why is it not set up that way from get go ?

Or does Cryptic wants to put off people of their game with bad looking graphic setting ?

They set it up to look like a comic book by default.  I also thought it looked bad when I first started but after making some changes to the settings it looks very good now.

Why did they set the settings to this initially?  I think someone is proud of the unique graphic style they created.  Once you get used to it it is kinda neat but initially and esp in the character creator I agree I thought it was aweful.

If you adjust the settings here are some screen shots of what it could look like.

The graphics are great, imo.  Sometimes I'm awed by the lighting, and the overall feel of the game.  I was in Canada (in-game) and kind of looked at my character and noticed that her you could see her breath...nice touch.  I was in the desert and a freak sand storm blew up and blurred my vision, again nice touch.  I like the details they threw in.  I hated the out-line effect when I first watched videos of the game, then I found out that they were optional.  The game has some very nice graphics.

I think it looks great but I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

No beast so fierce but knows some touch of pity. I know none and therefore, am no beast.

I agree with the above posters. The gfx in this game is better than most MMORPGs, that is once you set everything to max and turn on anistropic filtering (also turn of that comic outlining stuff).

Remember that gfx in games are not just static pictures but also how things move and the animations in this game is top notch. However I am a bit dissapointed with the power effects, they are not bad by any means, but I expected more powerful powers to look much better than they do.

Also the sound is dissapointing. I expected lightning attacks to sound more like actual lightning but the sound gfx, for powers, are way too tame.

That being said, the visual/sound of this game is one of the least features that needs improving. They need to add Villains as playable characters ASAP and then rollout an interesting world PvP feature. The PvE in this game, altough being good, is not enough to keep people from going back to LoTR, WoW or even CoX. Heck even WoW, a primarily PvE game, started with world PvP from launch.

We can agree that graphic are good.

But only after you play with advanced graphic setting.

You need to turn off outlines, than the tricky part is that you need to put antialiasing to max , but it makes everything bit blurry if you dont put field of view blur to minimum.

Its almost as if they hidden it intentionally ....

Pretty bad move

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but if you spent like 1 minute looking through the graphics options you would have seen that you can turn off the black outlines.  Another thing is that many games add blur effects to things when they are at a distance.  You know like in reality.....

I love the graphics through the whole game, but I do think the choice of lighting in just the first area of the starting zone seems poor. But once you get to the next quest npc the lighting is much better.

I'm all for the default setting, gives it the right feel for a super hero's MMO, but there are enough settings that you can give it a more traditional MMO look.

When he said he would just continue playing Warhammer I thought it was a joke...apparently not.

Yea these graphics suck!

OP you do know you can adjust the graphics? Blurry? Maybe you need glasses. CO is one of the best looking games out at the moment.

Its the kind of risk they took with WOW. Wow is very cartoony as opposed to the direction EQ II was taking with a more photo-realistic angle. The art-style of WOW grows on you so much that you almost forget that it is cartoony and it becomes Organic.

I think your eye/mind starts to process it as 'normal' because everything you see seems to 'fit together'. I don't really feel I can explain it very well, but when you are out on the plains of the barrens and lions jump out and chase down a gazzelle, I know that it didn't seem "like a game" as much as it could have.

I get that same think after a full weekend of playing CO. The Art style grows on you. If you aren't a troll, give it more time.

You explain it well. It is about consistancy of art style. WoW seems more alive then EQ2 because the whole world is consistant. Even though WoW is cartoony it feels more alive and real then most mmos out that are trying to be more realistic. I have the same feeling about CO as you do.
