I love the game, it is the most polished, well rounded game to come out in years. And no content gaps, either. Really nice leveling pace, tons of quests and very lore driven. I see myself sticking with this game for a few years especially while I wait for TOR. Playing: Star Wars: The Old Republic Waiting For: Absolutely Nothing. |

Decent enough graphics? yes
Few bugs and lag ? yes
fun gameplay ? No
Polished Korean grinder. If that is what you are looking for then you have found your game. Its essentially a less harsh form of Lineage 2.

I was in beta, bought the preorder and the collector's edition on faith that NCSoft would have localized the content to appeal to Western audiences more, but now I am disappointed. Like many have said, it still feels way too much like a "Korean grinder." The general look is much closer to a polished version of Atlantica than to anything that could result from a last-gen update to Everquest or Vanguard, for example. Characters, despite the excellent char editor, look way too much the same, the fault being mostly that the outfits are the same for everyone, and the color palette is quite limited. Granted that this is worse because of the opening chaos, but I just *hate* the widespread killstealing that results from what imho is a messed-up mechanic that decides who gets the kill. This is particularly aggravating in connection to rarer mobs required for quests, and unique spawns that see several players line up for that extra-fast click. Paradoxically, this makes me hate my fellow Asmo/Elyos and spoils the team spirit in view of those promised epic PvP wars. I am in an excellent guild (one of the largest if not the largest on Nezekan), but it's obvious that those who advance (and are already at very high level) are professionals at leveling and only have their eyes on PvP, so even within the guild it all feels rushed, as there really is no reason for anyone to linger and "enjoy the world." In fact, I can't honestly say that the quest text (which I bothered to read so far) is captivating. It's just generic, and so it boils down to whether you really like the background lore and all as compared to what other games offer. Crafting is a very slow grind, and the only way to make it less slow is to spend huge amounts of kinah on materials or, of course, have a powerful guild with organized material collection and bank donations. Character creation is just about the most enjoyable part of the game, though once in game I was disappointed by some animations, especially the idle animations (I just can't stand the "hand on the hip" idle animation on my male chanter -- stereotypical prostitution poses comes to mind --, and the animations of the sellers get old very fast). There is an incipient and annoying spam fest near the town centers, apparently due to people who camp because they are scared of the queues if they log out. The result is an awful feeling when you go back to town, something I only experience when I gave a try to Asian games such as Ragnarok Online, where in some parts of the game it felt like wading through a swamp of character spam. I understand the need for games to have money sinks, but this game makes almost everything quite expensive (at newbie levels teleporters cost enough to feel discouraging, and this is bad because it discourages exploration), and so this morning I had the pleasure to be greeted after five seconds from login by a gold spammer. So, between the need for gold sinks and having gold spammers, I'd rather have a game where money is plentiful and spammers stay in their own hell where they belong. So, all in all, despite the pretty graphics that I am running at max without a single glitch, I am rather disappointed, and feel the urge to get into my other MMOs instead of going back to my chanter. This is wrong after a day of play. |

As I stressed in another thread. Lineage 2 + Soulcalibur + Wings = Aion It does have a polished korean mmorpg feel to it and the graphics are pretty damn good. The character customization is fantastic, the game mechanics are smooth and game commands are easy to understand. However, game play is repetitive, long ques, very linear, theme park no doubt, to much player spam from stores to the general chat room being a kids romper room and nothing really original except for the Wings in game. This doesn't mean I don't like it, but its just another run of the mill mmorpg. I will hold out my final verdict till I reach at least level 20 or until I say enough is enough. |

My opinion so far: It plays just like it did in beta, except you get dp faster (my glow seemed a bit glitchy). We all will soon find out how levels 30-50 play, and how the famed pvpve plays out. The largest part of the game has still yet to be played. So far so good, lots of quests, im always looking for a high point to glide down from. Everything looks pretty, lots of mushrooms (why do asians love shrooms so much?) definitly a nice change of pace from the norm in my opinion. Also you get your choice to look metro, or have back hair....or both! Extremely good character creation, wide selection of metro hair-dos, along with a huge fro and various long hairs. long hair glitches with equipment. Solid game so far, lets hope mid-endgame plays up to expectations. |

I am loving the game but I agree with everything you said. It should be more than one starting zone. PVP should have started at level 10 afther accension. The Gathering can be tedious but for some reason I cant run pass a noid without stoping to gather it. No collision detection is highly noticable. |

So far i really like the game it provides the first 20 levels to get to know your class and provide background and lore. Some things i really like that i have not seen mentioned, the crafting system is really cool i like the fact that nothing you craft is BoP i always hated this about WoW if i made it why the hell cant i sell it on the AH i am sure someone could probably use it. I like the work order system which allows you to level a crafting skill without hours of material grinding and it also provides a tid bit of xp and some pretty decent rewards. Second i like the armor customization allowing you to switch skins for weapons if you prefer the look of one weapon but the stats of another, also you can dye your armor so it is different colors. I think that this part of the game adds depth and customization as well as a positive experience. Third the quest system i really like the fact that you can look for more information on a quest and find locations through the quest tracking, although i only tend to use the markers if i am stuck. I like that they put some lore and thought into the quests and for the most part yes they are fed ex quests but they have several chains that provide reasons for the quest not just a go get me this and get X reward they tend to follow a story weather it is we are fighting against X race here and they are doing Y that we dont like go set fire to their supplies and steal their grain. Overall i think it has provided a lot of what people constantly bitch about on these forums but they have become so jaded that they are unwilling to find the awsome that games provide. Good game i will be playing. |

Not talking to you here Lowdos, but why do people come to a MMORPG that they know is a traditional quest based grinder on it's PvE side, which we all did with Aion, and then complain about it being just that? It's retarded. What did people really expect at Levels 1-20 in a game of this type? It's pretty much just an extended tutorial to allow you to learn your character and the world, and it does that beautifully.
The newbie Island in AOC was much more of an MMO than Aions newbie area... which requires absolutely no grouping whatsoever, it has probably 1 interesting quest the rest are kill quests.. you cant say AOC's newbie area is any worse? levels 1-20 extended tutorial are you kidding? Go play LOTRO 1-20 where you actually dont feel like you are playing a grindy tutorial you actually group up and go in dungeons and stuff, you know you are actually playing the game from day 1 - oh yeah I need to play for 5 days to learn how to press 2, 2, 3, 3, 5, 2, 3, 4, 5. over and over... I guess you are one of theses that says - its all about the endgame right?

As you wish. And it is a bit more than 5 hours. Additionally you can't really progress through PvP even later on so you are stuck grinding mobs or quests or whatever to get your xp. I find this completely unacceptable. I don't want to be forced into anything by an entertainment product that I bought. PvE so you can PvP is the dogs of MMO design for me. I would find this whole situation a bit more palatable if the world and it's PvE weren't so damn linear. In short it isn't fun for me and you can personalize this with whatever projected character flaw you assume I possess. WIll you level up my char to 25 so I can finally try this fabulous PvP? In addition will you level up my char later on while I'm not playing so I can enjoy my PvP without feeling I'm retarding my character's growth? No? Well then I guess that's it then. Enjoy your game and hope to meet you there if/when they resolve these issues which seriously detract from my enjoyment of what otherwise seems to be an excellent game. |

Exactly, I'm back to WAR and ETQW for now. The thread is titled "So what's your opinion so far?" so I felt obliged to share mine. Since I did buy the preorder and played both the closed and open betas and I do have an active account (soon to be deactivated) I thought I'm entitled to an opinion here. It's a pity tho, I wanted Aion to take the place of my daily mmo fix but I don't see this happening with the game as it is now. We'll see, as always. |

I have only tried out a few characters and done the first quest or two. I love it! I think the graphics are great and most importantly the combat feels really good. |

I am not sure about this game as a first in MMORPG for me, however from what i've seen on the trailers and read on this forum it apears it could be fun as a complete newbie. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. |

typical post, trying to hide "hate message" by ending in "I hope this game will be succeed" or "this game has a lot of potential" we all heard that before from AOC or Warhammer.. Verdict is either you play or you don't play. I didn't play aoc or war or eve anymore because I just simply don't like it. It's that simple. I am not going to say I wish the best to who ever stay and play.. personally I could careless. There are always new MMOs out, if Aion fails in a year guess what nothing would happen to MMO players, people just move on. It's gaming companies' job to keep us happy, the other way around.
Also from a gaming company view, they already know after the honey period, a lot of people will cancel accounts so it's no surprised to them. I personally played some MMO only 1 month because it was just horrible i.e. RFO or DDO which I just dislike too much, but all those games are still alive. So, Aion won't die, it will be alive for a few years like most of MMO, or they can just simply turn into F2P, so gess all these talk just want to bash the game. Save your breath, people. |

In all fairness what does the OP ask? He/she is asking an opinion on what people feel about the game so far. Why can t anyone say they don t like it. It is a very average game IMO. It has nothing new, flying only in certain areas, KSing, terrible sounds, very linear, one starting area, 2 races(customizable, but only 2), no pvp till 25+, outside of arenas. I could go on but those are a few reasons why I don t like the game. |
