Sooo, Turbine finally announced that they have indeed been working on a new mmorpg for the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles the past year and a half now. Not a whole lot is known at this point, but it is believed that they have already invested over 20 million into this new console mmo and that it's pencil launch date right now is "early 2011". One for me to miss then as console MMO’s are invariably a dumbed down version of what you can get on the PC. |

My daughter is gonna freak if the rumor holds true...that it's a Harry Potter MMO console game. And if it is a HPotter game, Turbine is gonna rake in friggin MILLIONS . Time Warner won't scrimp on advertising and that's who they are working in conjunction with with this future MMO. I hope it comes before all the Potter movies are done! Gotta capitalize on the frenzy:) |

MMORPG Character Monuments ...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest... |
I too have reservations on the portability of MMOs to console. However, I am no guru...I wager they did the analysis and found a way to make it better and make it work |

Originally posted by silkakc Hell why not, if George Lucas can keep making money with Sham Wars, see no reason Joanne shouldn't throw her IP into the gaming market. She can't do any WORSE that's for damned sure. "There is only one thing of which I am certain, and that's nothing is certain." |
Originally posted by silkakc Back when people were still speculating what game bioware was working on, some people said EA held the right to make a harry potter mmo. How true that is I don't know, but it also might only hold true for a PC based mmo and not a console based mmo.

I'd like to see a well made AAA console MMO. If only to annoy the elitist PC gamers. The keyboard and mouse is still a dealbreaker for me though. |

If you're in the "MMORPGs should be fun games" camp, you will probably be capable of enjoying a console MMO (depending on the game depth, gameplay style, and control scheme.) If you're in the "MMORPGs should be world simulations" camp, don't bother. I may be sorta harsh on EVE, but damn is this a cool trailer (EVE Dominion). |

It's more a case of just not liking the lack of responsiveness in controllers. I don't even play console FPS games anymore since they are all so dependent on aim-assisting. I have extremely good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity which is something that really shows through in FPS games on the PC because the mouse can accommodate it. Controllers just can't; I feel like I'm playing underwater and waiting for the controller to catch up. |

Should be an interesting next couple of years. Console MMO's is an untapped source of income for game companies and one that needs exploring. It has to be true, i have internet links. |

Totally agree there. Boils down to the difference between using a mouse (where movement perfect maps to different angles) and a stick (where you control rotation rate rather than moving to a specific angle.) I'm no slouch at console FPSes (was a paid tester on Perfect Dark back in the day, and worked a little on Halo 1 too,) but it's just an inferior input device for 3D games where camera manipulation is any major part of gameplay. I may be sorta harsh on EVE, but damn is this a cool trailer (EVE Dominion). |

What's wrong with aim-assisting? It works beautifully. In fact, i put a console xbox style controller on my PC to play action games. |

"Invariably?" About the only really successful MMORPG on a console was FFXI (the only other console MMORPG I even know of is EverQuest: Online Adventures. No, Phantasy Star Online wasn't an MMORPG). "Dumbed down" is not a phrase often used to describe it. |

I got a bullet with your email address on it. Don't make me hit send. |
Originally posted by Scot yeah cause i've played better single player games then any of this so called MMO crap in the last 5 years if WoW was your first MMO i don't feel you have an opinion here. |
Originally posted by nariusseldon I'm sure it works fine, that's not really my objection to it. The problem (for me) is that auto-aiming detracts from the challenge of an FPS. I don't know if it's a matter of preference or aptitude, but if you're used to playing a mouse-based FPS game to a high standard, then controllers just feel limited and clunky. |

I don't like picture 31: They are saying that since the PS3 is harder to code to, they should actualy start with that, and then migrate the PS3 code to X360... That means their MMO is tailored to PS3, and ported to 360, so we can expect a "not so great" version on X360. (take that 360 fanboys) And are they actualy saying that Blu-ray is worse than dvd?? Guess it must be load/seek times or something like that... (take that PS3 fanboys) I am eagerly waiting for the first "real" MMO's to hit the consoles in the next year or two. Just hope there are a few good titles among them, because I realy hate sitting bent over the pc/laptop. Much better to sit in the couch with a controler. And no, a laptop in the couch is NOT the same, because it fries my "very very very private area". Not good... |

Originally posted by Ilvaldyr I don't find console FPS games to be any less challenging than PC fps games at all. The auto aim is pretty tame, and besides: How often do you actually die due to a lack of precision? In most cases I die due to a lack of reflex speed or strategic error. |

Well it's not really any more or less challenging, it's mostly the limited/clunkiness. It's sort of like if you drove a sports car every day, then traded down for a cruddy beater. They both get you places, but one is significantly more enjoyable. It's because of the tighter feedback loop between input and output. I may be sorta harsh on EVE, but damn is this a cool trailer (EVE Dominion). |

Put the tech issues to one side, even though PC's win hands down. You are playing with a input system that does not have any more buttons than the number of fingers you have. No mouse and in most cases no joystick. And this does not result in the game being dumbed down? Like I said though if they start using those mini keyboards as a game control, that would start to rebalance the issue. |
|
Keyboards are a non-issue. Consoles have had perfectly good keyboard support since the previous generation. I have always used a keyboard with my PS2 when playing Final Fantasy XI. |

Of high quality. You might avail yourself of a search engine before asking, however. Please support games that deliver a new and innovative experience. Eve, Ryzom, Ultima Online, Fallen Earth, Asheron's Call, Darkfall, Wurm and, other similar games deliver immersive Worlds, not Maps with mini-games or killing with no story. Even if you do not like the games themselves, support and appreciate the effort of developers to try something new. |
