Here I was thinking I was addicted to gaming by spending 1-2 hours a day on my games . Gaming would be the last thing i'd be doing if I had that much disposable income

Since my mmo time has slowed down, I have bought:

Lego Star Wars

GTA4

Spore

The Force Unleashed

Saints Row 2.

Not playing mmo's is costing me money.  Now I'm wanting to go out and buy Fable 2.

Player accomplishment is relative to the chance of meaningful consequences in the event you fail.

Duuuuuude.......can I borrow your credit card(s)? How do you find time in a day to play these accounts? I can barely find time to play 1 account in 1 game!!!

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

I don't get it, it's not the first time i see people with multiple accounts but if you can have 5 to 10 characters with only an account and play on different servers, what's the use of multiple ones? Serious question here, please someone tell me what they are used for?

First of all, some of us have lost our loved ones in this world and have no one. Not everyone is blessed to have a family like you. And I hope you never take that for granted because there are people out there that would love to have a family. Therefore, having no one in the "real world" to turn to, some turn to MMORPGs, to take us out of the real world and the reality of it all, if not for a few hours a day, and get to be part of a family in the game world. And to those people who know what I mean, that means alot.

I really think you should do what is best for you and your own circumstances in your life, whether it be you quit MMORPGs for good or not. But if you do quit, please do not try to encourage others to do the same. Especially when you do not know every single person's circumstance in their life.

Either way, good luck and I wish you all the best!

Seconded, but not only this. What the OP is really proposing - though he surely knows it can't actually happen so he probably hasn't considered the ramifications of being responsible for it happening - is obliterating a pleasure that for some of us is idle fun but for others is pretty essential.

If you think about it, he wants to destroy something that for many people is an important and irreplaceable source for a basic need which they otherwise could not acquire in real life for possibly very justifiable reasons. Can't afford to build or rebuild some aspect of their real lives in terms of either money or time or their present emotional capacity. Kind of rotten of him, isn't it?

Even if you don't need to rely on games for an outlet of any sort, loving a game and having no one to play it with sucks, that that's what would happen if all of us who don't "need" MMOs just quit out of some nonsensical and pointless moral outrage. And some of us (maybe most of us) do go out of our way not just to enjoy the games ourselves but to make them enjoyable for others - just as you might strike up a conversation with someone new at a bar where you are a regular, or in the same way you'd try to make everyone comfortable at a party where you are the host.

On reflection I think the OP's post is fighting words.

Well, I thought about what you guys said and you're right.  I do have a problem, I love gaming.  I resubbed 2 of my WoW accts, and a DAoC account for Tuesdays.  Maybe that will free up some time for other things.  I'll keep you updated.

Let us know how the intervention goes.

Something tells me with all of those accounts, you need a life anyhow.  I can't imagine having more than *1* account to anything.

Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA
Recently Played: HL2 (all), Halo (PC, all), Batman:AA, ME, BS, DA, FO3, DS, Doom (all), LFD1&2, KOTOR
Occasionally Playing: GW
Hope: None

Just because you have no life, love, or sex for that matter, don't come and ask us to give up something that

you don't know how to do in moderation.

I have played MMO's since UO beta and I have never ignored family, friends, maybe alittle work when UO 1st released but none since then.

It does sound like you need to drop all gaming and find a life.

Assassin's like to do it in the dark and from behind.

Well I think the fact that we're all on here posting on a forum, about games we could spend this time playing,  telling someone else to get a life is hilarious. But that's another point that we don't need to get into.

In regards to the poster, I've been playing multiplayer games since I was 15. Guild leading since I was 16. If I can currently manage an entire multi-game community (link) , play several MMO's, run 2 servers and still be working on a WoW server all while maintaining my self respect and happy demeanor, what's wrong with continuing???

I'm happy and apparently so are a lot of other people posting here. So the best advice I can give is look elsewhere than boycotting for the solution. I would LOVE to see mainstream MMO crumble but their business practices are legal and if we don't enjoy them it's still in our right to quit.

If I can help you find some enjoyment in MMO's in good moderation, let me know. I run a community called the Timberwolves Gaming Consortium. As it states on our homepage we promote HEALTHY gaming habits and success. I'm sure you could find a good place with us if you just need some help.

However you solve this, good luck and good gaming to you mate.

MMOs are sorta' like Vegas. Some people just can't handle it...

Everyone is different. If you feel like you are wasting your life away and neglecting things that are important, maybe you have a problem. If you are like me and spend only a little free time playing an MMORPG, then you probably don't.

I have seen World of Warcraft destroy the lives of two good friends of mine. They stopped going to work, stopped seeing their friends, and one of them gained about 100 pounds because he NEVER did anything even slightly physical for over two years. Both of them were forced to move back in with their parents because they could no longer function in society.

But out of my many friends who have played MMORPGs, only those two were effected this way. Both of them have since quit the game and have resumed normal and successful lives, but both of them acknowledge how destructive MMO gaming was for them. I think it is the responsibility of each of us to take a step back, examine our gaming behavior, and address it if it becomes a problem.

I don't mean to judge you OP, but based upon your description of your gaming habit, it definitely sounds like you could use some time off to reflect...

To the OP: I think what you're having is a standard burn out issue. Some folks have higher thresholds for such burn out, others are like me with quite low burn out thresholds before we go bonkers and do something else entirely (although some games never get boring for me like TF2). Here's what I suggest, take account for each account per month you pay, then add up the hours you put into it and imagine what other activities you could have done with the time or things you could have bought with the money. From there, then re-evaluate your value scale as to see if the MMOs in question really fit as priority one, if not it's time to move on to the more truly important values or ends. (Hint: it's not an addiction to all the pop-psychologists and pseudo-psychologists that troll these forums...)

Troll indeed, but I will feed this time because I have seen this sentiment posted several times before here by people who actually mean it.

You sound like one of those people who blame gun manufacturers for gun violence instead of the idiots who use them to hurt people.  Don't blame game companies because you couldn't control yourself and you felt like you needed multiple accounts in multiple games. The only revolution you need concern yourself with is the one where you get a grip on yourself, grow up, and start taking responsibility for your own actions.

It's not impossible to take care of all of your responsibilities and still play an MMO.  I had to become a casual player (as far as time goes) because I don't have the time I once had.  I make time for family, work, friends, martial arts, several outdoor sports, working out and a strong reading appetite all on top of my MMO playing.  I still manage to get in 8-12 hours, mostly on late weekend nights, but I have assigned a much lower priority to MMO gaming, despite my love for it.

At the end of the day, individuals have to decide how much time they spend playing video games, but please do not blame others for your decisions or lack of self-discipline.
