In at first try, servers up perfectly in time.

Friends can't login, too many players. The channels are CROWDED!

Absoltely smooth start for me, unfortunately not for many others who cant login.

Best launch I've seen so far. Sure there are queu times, there has to be. It's an RVR game done right, not another WAR with ghost servers 1 week after launch.

Terrible launch, clearly not enough servers or they aren't good enough to handle the load they KNEW they were going to have. I've given up trying to connect to a 2hour long queue after 500 attempts :P

TBH the game was launched in Asia....so long ago that most of the simple launch bugs should have been hammered out...Not trying to be a hater on a success game...just stating that only the language barrier should have stopped them....i wasnt a huge fan off the bat but all the hype has made me want to try this  but dont want to fork over cash for it  hopefully ill win a contest or they will put out a trial

It's not really a release but a re-release. The game has been live in Korea since November 28, 2008. That's why it seems like a smooth launch. It's 1st beta was in 2007.

Short answer: No.

Plenty of 'Unable to connect errors' and when I do get past the login screen, every server is jam packed, most won't even let me queue they just say there are too many people on :(

So far my personal experience is that recent MMO's such as Warhammer, Age of Conan and Champions Online all had better launches because I got on them almost straight away. If I don't get on within the next 25 minutes then you can add Fallen Earth to that list as well.

It is not the worst launch I've experienced yet, it still has 47 1/2 hours to go to beat World of Warcraft in the worst launch stakes (It was 2 days before I could play WoW when it launched).

Just goes to show that even the most thought out and best prepared launches can't cut it, I think it's just something that will forever plague MMO games, not that it bothers me, what would be the fun in experiencing a new game launch without the usual logon problems the first few days ;)

does not count hehe

Because there's no loot treadmill?

Of course you cannot beat GW launch. It was the paragon of a well-executed launch. Go Arenanet.

Remember, some people think they enjoy the loot treadmills. Those same people can get very angry with games that do not have one, because subconsciously, they know we are having more fun because we can play the game without needing a carrot on a stick. So, really, it is subconscious jealousy.

Please support games that deliver a new and innovative experience.

Eve, Ryzom, Ultima Online, Fallen Earth, Asheron's Call, Darkfall, Wurm and, other similar games deliver immersive Worlds, not Maps with mini-games or killing with no story.

Even if you do not like the games themselves, support and appreciate the effort of developers to try something new.

I'll bet Mythic's launch of WAR went pretty smooth when it was released a few months to a year later in other countries... kind of like how Aion was released a year ago in Korea, and now it is launching in English-speaking countries. So, NCSoft has had a year to prepare the launch. i would be very disapointed in NCSoft if they didnt have a smooth launch.

Also, upon release, WAR's servers were full. The server that my guild had joined was always an hour wait in queue. sadly Mythic released a buggy game, so casual players left for something that doesnt have bugs.

give it some time, that "new MMO smell" will wear off soon, and the servers will be less full.

So what would you have NCsoft do? Release a ton of servers to accomodate everyone now, and then when that new smell wears off have to merge half of them back down? An good Open World PVP game needs full servers, and that's what NCsoft is delivering.

its not an mmo because not everyone is in the same world/lobby/area.

having 60 instances of a town is NOT mmo.

Nah, LotRo had an equally smooth launch, if not moreso.  Not knocking Aion's, but it's been done before.

Whos cares the game is full of  fail in north america nobody wants to grind mobs for hours to lvl korean made games will never make it here unless they nerf the xp needed for each lvl and get rid of the mindless grinding! Champions online proved that atleast american gamers hate to grind mobs to only gain xp we want story and lore and quests, they  nerfed the xp rate in champions and the game is fail now. Aion needs almost half the xp need per lvl past 20 to make the game fun.

I will all be over soon when people tart quitting left and right cause of the grinding!! Then you can login when ever you wiht no quesss

Whereas if you were in charge, they'd open up extra servers right now to handle the load.

Despite history proving that the first few days of concurrency are always a spike well beyond what will be seen at launch or a month beyond launch.

Despite history proving that the additional servers to accommodate the spike have historically proven to result in dead servers within a half a year to year after launch.

They clearly don't know what they are doing, Crim! They should most certainly be rehashing the mistakes of the past. It's a shame you aren't in charge over there to lead that stalwart movement.

Ditto, in an MMO the population online of a server is roughly 10% online at any one time of the server total population, ofc this is headstart/launch pretty much the entire server is gonna be logging in right now, making more servers would be dumb since ppl would get a false sense of "over population" that will dissipate over the next few days.

I dont really know why ppl are too bothered, even funnier is people complaiting about "why did I pay for headtstart if I have to wait 45min" lol headstart is 5 days or so, 45min of wait is not gonna affect anything.

I can only guess as strict as they seem to be be server population and balance control that once we do log in that the launch will be rather smooth.

However, I disagree with how they've performed things thus far. They should have never allowed for more characters per server than their hardware could handle. I understand things will calm in the days or weeks to come but they could have waited until then to reopen servers that would otherwise stall players at launch with 2 hour queue times.

I understand server caps. I understand that not all accounts will be active at all times. What I don't understand is why the company would set the cap per server at a level to where they couldn't handle it if all accounts were active at once (As one would expect during a launch). They could have easily raised the cap in the later days or weeks in order to provide additional population on these servers if they really needed to.

In my opinion, asking people to pre-order your game with one of the most important "hooks" being a head start and then forcing (it is their choice) those players to sit in 5+ hour queues (I am at 2250 and 5+ hours right now on Triniel) is anything but professional.

Exactly why would they not have foreseen the number of ppl wanting to log in during headstart and planned accordingly. Plus everybody hates ques. They are an incredible inconvenience for those that actually have to plan gaming times during their days.

That is EXACTLY the point. NCSoft et all should have expected this garbage and prevented it from happening to anyone at all. EPIC fail launch.

NCSoft had the knowledge. They knew there would be 400,000 or whatever people waiting anxiously to get into the game immediately at the point of Head Start, and they blundered their backsides off with the release anyway.

I made this! (My favorite sig to date.)

Putting an artificially high cap is something they probably won't do because it creates an unrealistic assessment of how the servers will balance out and would promote some of the problems MMO devs want to avoid fromt he start  - imbalance among the servers and imbalance between the races.

Seems to me they could have done something like temporary servers, with names like Zekiel-A and Zekiel-B with the intent to merge them as populations go down, reopen them as they go up.  Also, that does appear to be a pretty short server list, considering they thought it a realistic to be aiming for 2nd most popular MMO in North America.
