I'm not quite sure why you post in every Aion thread if you said weren't going to get it due to lack of PvE content.

So what IS your motivation?

So I can't post now?

I hold no jurisdiction over whether you post or not, I was just curious.

I can't be curious now?

Sure you can post. The question is why? Since you aren't going to play. I'm not posting on WoW forums or EQ forums.

There wasn't a problem, generally (and I use this word broadly) people don't post in forums about games they don't play unless they're there to complain or troll, hence the genuine curiosity.

But no, you don't cause problems or troll, dare I say... it's odd?

Like I said I played beta enjoyed it but it's not for me because it's pvp oriented.

Were in a site of mmorpgs I don't get what is all the fuss? like I said I'm not trolling or telling lies about the game. I'm not playing any mmorpg atm due to the fact that last years all mmos that came out were all pvp oriented. Passing some time on f2p games but they get me bored fast, so I wander in mmorpg.com to pass time till FFXIV comes out.

When I reply in some thread I know what I'm posting on so I don't get what's wrong with that...

He's just surprised to see a non-player in a game-specific forum that is not trolling. That's all. Now we can all go back to counting down the hours to release.

Misinformed.

Misinformed by what regard?

Also think ye lumped me in with those saying it's slower than WoW and whatnot, which I'm not.

I preordered and played a cleric and ranger to 48 and 36 respectively, before getting bored and deciding I wasn't gonna play release. I actually have hands on time in it.

From what I played, the games pacing felt slow. I'm aware the classes I played aren't the fastest at dishing out dps in the game, but there's still the baseline to cater to.

The mmo I currently pay/play right now on occasion is DDO. You know how fast most mobs die in that? If it takes more than 3-5 seconds, you're doing it wrong. You know how long it takes in Aion on average? While it'll only take a minute if yer plodding like a snail and more to 30-40 seconds fighting tougher mobs(out of normal level range), it's still closer to 15-20 seconds or so for normal mobs.

Now while that doesn't look that long in and of itself. It spells wonders of implications for multiple target combat and the amount of time one will waste waiting for everything to die.

It may be overboard of me to say the game is 'actually' slow, but by my standard it really is. There's a difference between having time to think and react and having time to think and react and then ponder your navel for a moment before having to do anything else.

Aion IS slower. Slower than most MMOs? Hells no, it's pretty close to on par. It's high damage attacks though are mitigated by it's leveling and combat mechanics though, and for the most part your bigger strike will be more effective PvE where you don't have everyone standing around in armor that's meant to mitigate your damage types.

Aion is an mmo. It's been built for a wide general audience. It is not hard, it is not amazingly deep. It is slow. I wouldn't call WoW particularly faster or slower either. You can waste a decent amount of time on trash mobs in that game too. It's by design though in both cases. But I restate my point. The game is slow. It was made slow like plenty of other MMOs to cater to the general audience of the modern gamer, who is slow and relatively unskilled.

And now to wait the mandatory 15 seconds to let that sink in...

If I'd never played Aion, I would read your post, identify with your logic, and say, "Wow, this guy just hit the nail on the head!".  If I'd never played Aion, and were on the fence about it, and found this part of the game an important aspect to me, I'd likely hop off the fence, and not bother playing.  If I'd never played Aion.....

I have played Aion though.  I agree with you 110% in that its combat is slower.  Where I disagree is that this makes the game bad somehow.  Your entire post is from a solo perspective, and a solo perspective only.  You paint one side of the picture, and leave the other blank.  This leads to misinformation.  For the other side?

Yes, soloing mobs in Aion takes 15+ seconds for DPS, and at times 30+ seconds for tanks/heals, which will vary to whatever degree based on gear.  If, however, you group with another player or two, those times very quickly decrease.  Good time to note that experience is evenly divided amongst party members that are in range, even if they don't participate.  Experience also gets divided by an exact percentage, based on the number of members.  Mob gives 10,000 experience solo, and there's a 2-man party, they each get 5,000 experience, simple as that.  What does this mean?  That's right.  Grouping is good.

Whether you want to solo near your buddy, sharing exp as you go, or team up against the mobs, there's little reason not to group, unless you're just the extremely greedy type.  The way combat works in Aion is your typical global cooldown between skills, but the vast majority of damage skills have cooldowns, plenty that can only be used every 15 seconds or more.  This means that if it would normally take you 30-45 seconds to kill a mob by yourself, and you relied on skills that have such a cooldown, you would use them at the beginning, then again to kill the mob, then need to wait before attacking another so that you were truly effective in your next fight.  In the case of a small group (2-3 people), you can kill mobs with far less risk, in a proportionate amount of time, and do so far more efficiently with regards to cooldowns.  At long last, a game that promotes grouping.  If the folks you group with aren't jerks, the items that drop that you can use will be yours anyway.  The stuff that noone needs simply gets rolled on.

I'll also add that in games where killing a mob requires all of 3-5 seconds, there's almost no reason to group, ever.  Furthermore, that style of combat is even worse in my mind, because what risk can really exist in the first place if something dies that quickly?

In all, the pace of combat isn't determined by how long each fight takes.  In a solo situation where you require 30 seconds to get a kill, you will be working for the full 30 seconds - not just sitting there watching auto-attacks.  The guy I'm quoting above might've had this impression because of mostly cleric gameplay, which unlike other classes has fewer attacks and thus less to do to make a mob dead.  What he fails to account for is that in plenty of situations, rather than pumping out more damage, clerics are required to heal in between tossing damage (yes, solo) so that they don't die.  It's just part of it.

Regardless, the combat is what you make it.  Fighting mobs 2+ levels lower than you will never offer a challenge.  Fighting mobs 2+ levels higher however...

Misinformed.

Misinformed by [SNIP] that sink in...

If I'd [SNIP] levels higher however...

I wouldn't call fighting higher level mobs more challenging more so than you have to chug through larger numbers. And you have a point with me missing out on party play. Problem is there's a lot of people who grind solo through leveling and most quests and only party for PvP and raid type quests/events.

I would reiterate my opinion that Aion isn't a bad game, one just needs to know what to expect out of it. That's an issue all games have really. Remove the hype and inflated fan praise and remove the grave digging bashing and just look at what the game mechanics are and decide whether the system in place caters to one's preferences in style.

Also, being able to kill mobs in 3-5 seconds can be endlessly challenging when they hit as hard or harder than you do, they have special abilities and multiple tiers of skills/spells they can use based on what they con, and their tactics change accordingly. I've had mobs dodge out of the way on plenty of occasions, and given I usually spring for the character class/setup that has low hp and requires me to be great at dodging, when one has to run down a mob that not only can throw big fireballs at you, but debuff, strafe, and bash yer skull in, it gets a lot more challenging than a mob that does the same thing but has more health/dps.

Eh...it works...

MMOs I remember: AC, AA, DAoC, EQ, EQ2, L, L2, PS, LOtrO, DDO, Planetside, BE WW2, WoW, Ryzom, SWG, TR, CoX, HL, DR, PT, Exteel, Guild Wars, AO, Archlord, Dreamlords, Atlantica, Entropia, EVE, FF XI, Maple Story, Ogre Island, Planeshift, Rappelz, RFO, Runescape, MXO, SotNW, SL, Vanguard, UO, WAR, PotBS.

Mmos I subscribe to: Real Life 2.5, now with full alcohol/inebriation simulation!

I need a better game...

I didn't find any substantial difference in combat time, playing a Templar in Aion compared to playing a tank in WOW. I use to play tanks and healers so I'm used to "long" fights (I don't find them long at all), but as I say they are more or less equally long in both games. At least until lvl 18 in Aion.

Well, I wasn't intending to disagree with you so much as give a different perspective on it for those who may wonder.

Also, having played a chanter (coercer) for my time in EQ2, I can absolutely relate.  There's plenty of excitement even in killing things that die quickly, particularly when mistakes (forget your mes timer, miss a stun, resist a root, etc.) get you killed just as fast.  The issue is that that style of gameplay only lends itself to solo, because by the time you group up with a buddy, the mobs are dead in 2 seconds instead of 5, and the risk is gone.  It's just a different style of game.  I just wanted to point out that Aion's simply more friendly for groups than solo.
