The new attack sequence and speed may be the worst change in this game ever. It took fun fast combat and made it slow and clumsy. We now get too many attacks too early and to balance it Turbine slowed down the swing speeds. Not to mention they screwed up stunning blow, now after I land a stunning blow the MOB gets 1 or 2 swings before acting stunned.

The patch made combat less fun and to me combat is the highlight of DDO.

It's painful on low level characters.  Even on high level one's it feels wierd.  At least the old system felt fluid.

If it was just an animation in the attack sequence that caused a problem it would have made more sense to just remove it, but I realize there's a focus upon DPS for whom ever is in charge at Turbine which is why the new system actually increases it as the characters level up.

I don't know if I can get used to it.  I really wish they would have used a public test server for these kinds of big changes to allow for better feedback when something is bound to be controversial. I think they dropped the ball with the changes to BAB.

My level 10 Paladin sword and board user was castrated by this move. His one handed attack was so slow and the enemies are still at full speed, huge issue there, that I was taking damage constantly because fights were lasting much longer that they did the day before.

All in all this is another move that makes me wonder who tested it and for how long.

I havent had time to play alot since the patch but I didnt like the changes and it seems really wierd to just put them out in a patch like that.

But atleast Turbine is giving some answers about the changes:

"We're planning on making changes to the changes, I'll announce more once I've got some concrete stats for people"

"Attack speed issues are being looked at... "

That's good to know.  Hopefully they will change it back or something...

Another post from the devs:

"I just wanted to thank everyone for the feedback on the forums. We realize some of the changes in the patch were contentious and we’ve been paying close attention to your feedback.

Regarding the changes to combat animation speed and progression, we made these changes to address a reduction in attacks per minute that occurred as players reached the higher levels, as well as some inequalities between different weapon styles. Since we never want gaining a level to be a negative experience, we felt the need to adjust the attack sequence.

That said, we can appreciate the general perception that the feel of combat has been impacted and we realize that certain class levels are significantly affected. We’re looking into this and hope to have some positive changes in the very near future.

We also realize the patch contained a serious mouse UI oversight on our part; we apologize to those affected and we’re working towards getting a fix out as soon as we can. While we’ve endeavored to expand the control scheme to provide more flexibility for different playstyles, we have no intention of forcing anybody to change the way they’ve been used to playing."

Still seems wierd to make such drastic changes in a patch without any warning.

I can't understand why they made the change - especially since now low level characters are3 getting 4 attacks: 2 "normal", 1 at +5, and 1 at +10.  Gotta say that I really don't like it.  It's almost like they are again adding an "easy button" - +10 to 4th attack?!! on a 4th level cleric???

I loved the change. Now combat is more exciting and challenging than ever before. But that's just me......I hate casual handholding crap almost as much as people who run mindlessly through a dungeon , ruining the experience for everyone else in the party. D&D Online is the only game I have ever played that I actually enjoy grouping with noobs rather than veteran players.

How is slower attack animations making the combat more exciting and challenging? Feels like my character is in the Matrix with bullet time slow motion when doing some attacks.

But I agree  that running mindlessly though dungeons is really boring but I understand thoose who have done the quests hundreds of times already.

While this change does make some low BAB classes able to hit more at low levels it is not an easy button at all for fighting classes. The combat is now so slow that fighting classes gained nothing at all. All around they screwed this change up in every way. Now combat has no real changes after level 3 and my mid level sword and board using paladin/fighter became boring to play.

I didnt like it:(

edit: Main problem is combat. only way i can put into words right now is, i seem to get stuck in animation. Would rather have a big animimation with more bite by holding the botton down and building up to it after 3-4 hits, and tap button to single hit without the big animation. Played it a very limited time. So far both me and my buddy's initial reaction was.."we suck now" even though its the same pretty much. Thats what it makes you (us) feel like going from the change over. Will have to play it more.

Just polish and more polish would help a ton. The animations are cool though.
