I actually wanted to choose Elyos because I wanted to try the "light" side for once, but after reading the lore, they just repulsed me. IMHO: Elyos: Self-righteous,arrogant, and "likes to judge" race. They proclaimed themselves the chosen of Aion because they landed on the easy mode of life with a rich land full of life and beauty. They judged the Asmodians on their first encounter as cursed beings. While I do understand why they would have wanted peace with the Balaur, I wouldn't have left the city so freaking vulnerable, and what was the god damn idea of bringing them NEAR the tower in the first place? Asmodian: Prideful, hardened, loyal and social conscious race(means they care for eachother no matter their social class). They landed in a dark and cold land, and managed to survive. They evolved and adapted, and did it mostly by themselves, which is already a pretty nice point to me. On the first encounter with the Elyos, they were "judged", and first Elyos VS Asmodian battle. The first one to have slain civilians of the other nations appears to be the Elyos, after their initial encounter, some elyos soldiers flee into villages and slaughtered kids and womens. "Some of their numbers escaped, but most fled toward our home city where in their anger they butchered our women and children before we finished them." |

I did it because I figured Asmo was kind of like Horde. I guess I was wrong, but my friend still wanted us to role Asmo because he is into the whole "let's be bad guys" thing. |

Common misunderstanding about bad/good here. Let's see, the Elyos encounters the Asmodians. Both sides had a "Reason" to jump at each other, BUT, during the battle, some Elyos fled into the wrong direction, which happened to be the Asmodian home town, and took the time to slaughter kids and womens before being killed. The Asmodians didn't even pursue the people who fled through the portal back to the Elyos hometown.
So I ask you, who is the bad guy here? |

I totally disagree I think both races have no qualities to be a wow alliance, just because both sides on poll thats going on atleast here on mmo it looks like both sides are more 20+ while alliance in wow is 13-19 more... if had to choose, the younglings will pick the elyos making the new alliance... playing:Aion, shot online. |

its kinda like wow... with alliance and horde.... could say alliance is really the aggressive faction when horde, really just wants peace... but reason they keep at their necks is because of all the little things that happen playing:Aion, shot online. |

I just checked ... you cannot make an Asmodian on ANY server! |

You can't make them anymore. There is a population balance check that will forbid creating characters on the side that already has substantially more players. |

And quite funnily, there are more people going Asmo to run away from the kids. But my guess is really more kids in Elyos, but in the end it doesn't really matter, since some adults will act like kids, some kids will act like adults, and some guy will fake being a chick to get free monthly subscription from a desperate guy. |

After reading the lore neither faction really seems to come out as the "true" good or bad guys imo. Both sides look down their noses at the other, both believe the other is lesser for their views, and both believe they are the only ones who deserve to live. Both sides take care of their own, are loyal, and are out for the good of their people. According to the lore the humans ( before they split into the elyos and asmos) were getting their butts kicked and could only survive inside a barrier made by the Daeva Lords. I can see why the Elyos would try to make peace when its becoming clear that this war is never going to end in their favor, at the same time I can see why the Asmos would hate that idea so much. In the end both sides were dealt a pretty messed up hand really. One side is too dark and slowly freezing to death, the other is too bright and slowly burning to a crisp. I can see there being a point in the story where Aion or the Lords (at least a few) realize that the only way the planet can really survive is to reunite the halves. Usually if you kill 1/2 of something the other 1/2 dies as well. Thats how I see it anyway, I'm acctually planning on playing both races just so I can see everything ^.^

I think those are the men that use their characters as a fantasy doll at night... no girl, studio appartment and only PALMla HANDerson for love. playing:Aion, shot online. |

Bad ass? Looks like a gay farmer to me. ;-)
It was funny, in open beta I tried both sides and I found the Elyos side more graphically appealing though a bit on the sweet side. Asmos also had a much more vulgar community in terms of the people in regional chat and I absolutely hated the bent over running of the Asmos though the Elyos upright running is less than great. Other than that, black wings for Asmos and white wings for Elyos and the jump-flip for Asmos as well. I just went ahead, upon reading the no-GG news, and ordered and made a couple Asmos, but I will make two Elyos on another server and play whichever seems to have the best community I think. -------------------------------- |

The good thing about stereotyping is that almost anyone can do it to some extent. For example, one can argue that the people that bring this up are using mmos as a dating service (for irl males) or are jealous they might get less attention (for irl females). Just joking though since I am not the type of person that likes to stereotype, simply making a point.
As for the topic, I think most people play Asmodian because they can look "pretty" and badass so it attracts both type of people, just my theory though. The elyos are arguably even prettier and can also look badass (to a lesser extent) if you know what you are doing with the characters customization.

Honestly though Ice, that stuff's only going to be relevant to RP players. The rest will go by appearance. Of course, this duscission is moot - Asmodians are so popular that they're already locked from being created on most servers due to the blocks that are in place to ensure balance. I mean, that's kinda /thread. "The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it."

The only reason I want to roll Elyos is I don't like the dark dismal zones on the Asmo side. I got an SLI system and I like max eye candy. I'm sure there's probably some on the Asmo side, but I didn't see any in the 10 levels I played on that side in beta. All I saw was a lot of grays and browns. I don't really like their feet or the hair on their back either. I'll probably eventually roll some characters on that side. Seems like you always meet someone at work that plays on a different server/faction. Edit - Reversed the races lol, that what I get for typing this while alt tabbing trying to get onto the server I want. Fixed |

I liked the asmos for the more glowing blue palette rather than the bright and yellow palette of elyos. I also liked some of the asmo music. Also you can make them look a bit grittyer. if only they would allow me to roll one... |

I think you're getting the factions backwards perhaps? Elyos are the "normal" race - no back hair, no claws for hands/feet. Asmodians are the guys with claws, On that note, plenty argue that the Asmo side has prettier zones than the Elyos. However, it's all really personal opinion - something you'll really form for yourself as you play. "The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it."

I read the lore and i sided with the asmodians, the elyos fucked up royally, maybe some people actually choose the side for a reason beyond wanting to be emo.
Everyone always has to belittle it down to the simplest reasons, if it was elyos beiing overcrowded wed have a bunch of smacktard saying it is because the elyos look like fairies.
