The book burning ritual takes different forms.  Books are burned in church courtyards to denounce the heretics.  Books are sometimes ordered burned by governments to destroy and obliterate the knowledge of opposition thinking.    Imagine the fiery crowd in the public square, tossing books into a growing bonfire.   "Blasphemers!," you hear.  Others want libraries "cleansed" and "cleaned," and even certain publications are can be shut down.  After the fires consume the books, rare is it that the flame of censorship is satisfied. Indeed.  History shows that censorship is never enough.

Modern day book burning rituals are more subtle but enormously more effective.  You can quarantine, cut-off, shield from people's eyes "politics" or "religion."  It is an act of confiscation to move a post from one area to another, similar to moving a book from one library to another.  I assure you, whether you know this now or not, that modern day book burning rituals are as evil, wrong, and ineffective as centuries-old ritual book-burning.  The internet, today, is not merely the public square.  It is also the library and much (much) more.

Voltaire's words were once condemned as impious and seditious.  I think Voltaire was the greatest wit who ever lived.  However, let's be mindful that even Voltaire's antagonist, Jean Jacques Rosseau, had his books censored.   Let's be frank, if not a bit over-the-top, Voltaire's and Rosseau's posts at MMORPG would be considered "political" or "religious," as if those things are naughty and filthy words.  We have become so accustomed to the destruction of ideas that we do not even have a concept of what censorship.  Most-likely, most people's concept of it is centuries-old book burning rituals, in the church courtyard or the public square.

Has anyone read Fahrenheit 451?  I had the opportunity to Mr. Bradbury at a public discussion because a major library actually selected Fahrenheit 451 as the book of the month.  Today, my friends, it is not the book; it is the post

You know, i enjoy reading your posts =)  That said i know you aren't happy with them seperating Religion and Politics into its own forum, but honestly i don't see it as censoship, i see it as having your own place to discuss things with your peers without the other OT folks constantly bitching about Religious and Politics topics.

I just don't see the censorship in it, there are a lot of people that don't wanna deal with that stuff and find it even offensive, in this case i think it was best to give both camps their own place.  Imo if they were truly censoring anything they would have just said no Politics and Religious topics on our forums period.

We are all ignorant until truth is revealed to us.. However.. How do we know the truth is not in fact a lie..

I agree. Liar Liar pants on fire! Good to see you back. I'm no fan of yours but you are one of the few people here who occasionally makes me think, and actually catches me being wrong

Also, obviously I agree with you here as well. Also about Voltaire. What was it they said? he had a tongue like whip? Don't feel like googling it...tired, feeling lazy, and pretty busy tonight all at the same time.

Welcome back Dec! I am sorry I said you sucked when I was drunken ranting.

I've actually noticed that a lot of mmo forums lean right, and a lot of military play mmos. I don't really know why, but that has been my experience. Outside of mmo forums, it seems to be a bit more balanced."

No need to burn books these days.  Once everything is online, books will disappear, be edited, and get "lost" in 404land.

...And the funny thing is?  Back in the days of book burning, at least you knew what was being burned.  In the future?  Nobody will even know what is being burned, or when, or even why.

The really sad thing about this is that once they accomplish this complete control over information, it will make it so easy for them to completely cripple us with the flick of a switch. computers are dependent on power, power on the grid, wipe the grid and you create chaos because so many people are helpless now without it. So many these days do not even know how to cook for themselves!

So many these days are completely unable to survive without modern equipment. They do not know how to hunt, farm, sew, purify their own water, make their own clothes and tools and with no books, no computers they will be completely helpless. It will be chaos. It is not a matter of " IF" it is a matter of "When".  People are unprepared, helpless and expect society and government to do everything for them.

What will they do in a real crisis, when there is no food, water, electricity? Our government makes us defensless by keeping us dependent. If they truly wished to give our country defence, they would remove the grid, focus on personal , independent power, independent water, and survival skills. They would encourage gun ownership and  proper use, so that when something terrible does happen, the people will be able to handle it.

Reminds me of a young man who posts on this forums who actually said to me that he finds that BOOKS ARE OUTDATED. The only moment I have ever felt fear while reading anything written on this forum. I shudder just thinking about it.

@ OP:

I read that book in High School.  It was one of my more memorable titles that I really enjoyed.  I can see why you are upset when threads in the so-called "no -mans - land" (Off-topic forum) gets locked, deleted, and moved to the bottomless abyss of the internet.  I wonder how much valuable literature has been destroyed in the course of history, via wars, and all these massive book burnings, or "delete" key strokes.

Devil also brings up a very good point.  If I had to go out and hunt my own food, shelter, make fire (shit I don't know how to do this exactly) makes me want to go take a survival class for basic human skills.  What scares me even more is the government being able to turn off the internet at a flick of a switch?....  no wonder folks are stocking up on guns/ammo. <.<;

Better do it quick, I have already noticed alot has started to disappear. I go to  find things I put  in favorites  a few months ago, and it is gone already when I try to go to the page . I am not talking about expiring, I am talking about many of the things I have saved are now " removed due to terms of use violations"
 or " this was removed by site administration".

I find them again only because people are stubborn and keep putting them up faster than they can remove them.

I am sure this will be changing very soon though.

The websites are still there.. I am talking youtube, other forums, ect where they had posted  cspan clips, afghanistan footage,

The site is still there, just the information had been removed. the videos, the articles that were posted with information. Many of it relating to things our government has done in the past, unclassified CIA documents, war footage,  government officials speeches ect.

For example: there was alot more footage from the 70's and 80's that are no longer there. More actual footage like this:

Zbigniew Brzezinski Taliban Pakistan Afghanistan pep talk 1979

 This used to be footage on barney frank not reading bills now this is what I get when I click on it from favorites:

www.youtube.com/index

There were so many more.. I should save themand post them now instead of removing them , just with them gone I don't see the point in cluttering my favorites.

Every leftist here thinks that fascism is the corporations controlling the government, what they do not realize is that is backwards -- it is the government controlling the corporations. The corporations can ONLY BRIBE. The government has the guns. Forget rock paper scissors. It is guns people money.

The government and the elites fool the people into hating the corporations, as if they had anything to do with free markets, the corporations bribe the government for special favors. This leads to economic crisis after economic crisis -- each time the people demand the men with the GUNS to fix what the men with the money are doing, because remember we gave the men with the guns our education system long ago.

So, the people hand everything over to the government never realizing how they have been had by their own ignorance.

However, like rock paper scissors it is the PEOPLE who can take the power from the people with the guns. Any time they want to.

What we are seeing today in the tea party movement is the people both waking up and hitting the snooze button. I truly hope they wake up.

The worst part of it is if you don't play ball you get chopped... Look at what is happening to Ken because he told the truth. I expect in the comming months they will try to discredit him since he has now broken the " circle of trust". He really is a nice guy and it is sad. Welcome back declaremer.

Good to read some more good writing again. :)

The problem with the book bannings/burnings were they are always held by some religious themed organization or one with ties to it. It's usually the "puritans" of most religious that want to shield your eyes from the naughty, even when they can't describe the naughty.

It reminds me of what this judge said about pornography.

To the lay public, Stewart may be best known for a quotation, or a fragment thereof, from his opinion in the obscenity case of Jacobellis v. Ohio (1964). Stewart wrote in his short concurrence that "hard-core pornography" was hard to define, but that "I know it when I see it."[9]

Usually dropped from the quote is the remainder of that sentence, "and the motion picture involved in this case is not that." Justice Stewart went on to defend the movie in question against further censorship. One noted commentator opined that: "This observation summarizes Stewart's judicial philosophy: particularistic, intuitive, and pragmatic."[9] Justice Stewart later recanted this view in Miller v. California, in which he accepted that his prior view was simply untenable.

"You know, you have such a stunningly superficial knowledge of what went on that it's almost embarrassing to listen to you." Zbigniew Brzezinski to Joe Scarborough regarding Clinton and the Middle East on the "Morning Joe" program.

the Nazis and the Communists destroyed and censored people because of a religion? Now, I know, I've made the case at times where both are sort of religions, just as I have said that your Caesar worship amounts to a religion, but really...to say book burnings are even MOSTLY religious is silly.

This is why we need to start taxing the hell out of all religions on the US. Maybe they would think twice about getting all cultish when the IRS is breathing down their necks.

constantine (274-337ad) emp 306, council nicea 325, council of rome 382 promulgated canon, formal canon 397 cathage, transformed catholic ch into imperial christanity (rcc);
that the legal imposition of a 'canon' or 'rule' upon scripture was a fourth - and fifth-century phenomenon enforced with the power of the Roman imperial government;
and that the political forces shaping the New Testament (nt) canon are much earlier than the second-century crisis occasioned by Marcion.

The following are the Imperial edicts launched against Manichæism: Diocletian (Alexandria, 31 March, 296) commands the Proconsul of Africa to persecute them, he speaks of them as a sordid and impure sect recently come from Persia, which he is determined to destroy root and branch (stirpitus amputari.)
Its leaders and propagators must be burnt, together with their books; the rank and file beheaded, people of note condemned to the mines, and their goods confiscated. This edict remained at least nominally in force underConstantine, and Constantius. Under Julian the Apostate, Manichæism seems to have been tolerated.
Valentinian I and Gratian, though tolerant of other sects, made exception of the Manichæans. Theodosius I, by an edict of 381, declared Manichæans to be without civil rights and incapable of testamentary disposition. In the following year he condemned them to death under the name of Encratites, Saccophores, and Hydroparastates.
Valentinian II confiscated their goods, annulled their wills, and sent them into exile. Honorius in 405 renewed the edicts of his predecessors, and fined all governors of cities or provinces who were remiss in carrying out his orders; he invalidated all their contracts, declared them outlaws and public criminals.
In 445 Valentinian III renewed the edicts of his predecessors; Anastasius condemned all Manichæans to death; Justin and Justinian decreed the death penalty, not only against Manichæans who remained obstinate in their heresy, but even against converts from Manichæism who remained in touch with their former co-religionists, or who did not at once denounce them to the magistrates.
Heavy penalties were likewise decreed against all State officials who did not denounce their colleagues, if infected with Manichæism, and against all those who retained Manichæan books. It was a war of extermination and was apparently successful, within the confines of the Byzantine Empire.

The rcc's nihilistic corrosive effects (eventually) destroy moral, religious, and metaphysical convictions and precipitated the greatest crisis in western history, their fabricated latin-only nt...
who's cherished beliefs and sacrosanct rituals/traditions are symptoms of a defective (Western) mythos.
saul's epistemological repudiations and imposed values were necessarily false when truth and reason are baseless facades in a transitory mortal hedonistic existance, where everything deserves to perish.

'THERE IS NO REASON TO SUPPRESS A VIEWPOINT UNLESS IT IS TRUE, because a false viewpoint can easily be combatted with facts and logic, while truth cannot be combatted except by lies which are vulnerable to refutation' John Bryant
Nazis never supported capitalism. In its simplest form (NSDP) it is simply about doing what is best for your people's gene pool. Secondarily, it is about doing what is best for the culture that supports that gene pool.

Arrogant banalization and absurdity triumph when the nt is the illusion, invented meaning, hopeful expectations, to make sense of the world; dismisses knowledge and self-reflection for more palatable relativistic "legitimized" claims;
ancestor veneration/relics; ameliorated scripture; people protect their god(s);
the nt is the main reservoir for the disease known as carrier-saul's unsanitary dictums/dogma spreading resistance to the paramount worship of G by mutilating the teachings of Messiah, a symptom of the acute chronic illness... failure to worship G !
