Extremely happy that they dumped it for now. I really dislike GG with a passion as it creates massive errors on the client side. Not to mention that when you do get an error, it often leads to a runaround trying to get a valid solution. |

Temporarily does not necessarily mean within a week, and for the sake of the game, I assume it will be longer than that before they put it back in ![]() |

Lol, what is not very smart is turning off your antivirus protection :) |

I'd give the removal of GG a 10. Many people claim their virus prot had no problems with it but thats not a good thing. Any good virus prot should see a rootkit -like program and pop it. With Kaspersky I had to pretty much ok anything that GG did ( those without problems had this problem taken care of by a 'fail' in detecting suspicious activity. GG didn't even care for a no virus prot running windows firewall. The above said, GG caused alot of folks problems and probably cost the game a significant number of gamers to just give up. I would never allow GG on a system with ANY personal info. <-period! |

Who games with AV running anyway? I have been gaming for a long time and have never run AV in the background while gaming. I have never been infected due to a game. No wonder people complain about frame rate issues, lag, horrible load times and whatnot. The real-time scanner is going nuts.

Incorrect. |

In all the games I have ever played with GameGuard I haven't had a problem once. I actually think the hackers are behind most of the complaints about GameGuard. This way they get there way and GameGuard is removed allowing them to hack. |

It isn't the game you need to be worried about -
Here's an example: You are playing the game a decide to swap out and visit a site for information about the game. You mistyped the site name and wound up on the wrong site. Before you know it, you have the package downloaded on your machine and running... All because you didn't have your protection in place. While that example is extreme, it is still a possibility. Most machines today are fast enough to run the real time scanners without impact to the games you play. It is still wrong to have to remove ANY protections you have on your machine to play a game. Why take any risks at all? Just MHO |

Many of the problems I heard about were things dealing with Keyboards and Keypads. Things that had a LCD panel on them wouldn't work properly because gameguard were some of the posts. There were some problems with those running Windows 7 RC1 (yes, I know, people did play with it) and gameguard playing Aion. But I'm betting it was the hardware issues and then the fact when you did get an error, it said go to X, Y, Z place. When you got there 1.) the error was so generic you might as well bought the software in the generic isle of the local supermarket, or 2.) You couldn't find any real answers.
Had a few friends I know having problems with the newer Logitech keypad.

Even more likely is that NCSoft acknowledged the Ineffectualness of GG because the link on how to disable it was widely distributed on practically every Aion board in existence, including almost every GG thread on the official beta forums. Where before game companies could keep up appearances that GG was a proper anti-cheat program (even though most who wanted to, knew their way around it), it has now been proven that even the most computer illiterate person can disable it. As such it has probably completely lost its 'appeal', at least here in the western MMO market, until the company behind GG finds a way for it to not be disabled so easily. |

I never had any issues with GameGuard. I'm even on 7 RC and didn't come across any problems. I'm glad it was removed for those that were having so many issues, though. |

Never in all my years gaming had an issue with GameGuard. Ive had it on xp and my vista 64 and never one issue.
One of the things i liked about GameGuard was the fact it blocked throttling programs, such as net limiter. Throttling is when you playing against someone and they freeze in place and you cant hurt them then few sec later they are 20 feet away shooting at you. Throttling programs lower the net connection to a crawl not enough to get dicoed but enough that you cant get the info that your getting hit. |

Yeah, I had a similar problem with my UPS monitoring software, since GG closes down a bunch of USB connections/software.
Ironically, I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't updated the UPS software a week before starting the BETA. The UPS software now has an audible warning that the UPS is off-line. So I got to hear a lot of "UPS Communication lost" "UPS Communication Established" when I started then exited the game. Other than that, no problems.

All they really have to do is make the game so cheating isn't fun. Make the game actually reward people who accomplish genuine feats and make the gameplay more like a SP game and there you go. A game called Tibia has a HUGE botter problem becuase the design of the game pretty much screams "BOT ME" becuase it used to have a very harsh death penalty and a massive grind. They fixed the death penalty and the amount of botters went down significantly. If you were level 150 and something stupid like lag or system problems would kill you you may loose several months of xp! This is why alot of people ended up botting so heavily, to get their stats back up. then it became a habit for them to bot it more and more. If you design the game well people won't have to bot. make it a game worth playing, make the quests exciting and different and not the same 3 errands like WoW has, make the armor and weapons truly unique and make the game have tons more skills to work on.

I have only one question. Why did they licensed it? Was it a good offer? I cannot really understand. Slows your PC, blocks your irc programs, and it made the Aion EU beta impossible to play on Win7 32 bit. Goodness it will be forgotten... |

I am sooo glad to see GG go! I had to turn completely off my Firewall/AV software, ZoneAlarm, to get GG to run so I could play. NO games security software should require me to run unprotected on the net. |
