LOL best laugh I got all day.

Aside from the overly happy cactus, fallenearth *was* worth checking out if you wanted something other than your typical fantasy rpg. I started playing 2 days before OB ended.. so I didn't get much time to play it, but in that short time it was really starting to grow on me.

It is too bad they are going with p2p, that decision may be the death of them. For a FREE game it would of been great, but to have to pay monthly it doesn't really offer up enough to make it worth-while.

The graphics are extremely poor, the performance is subpar (lots of little freezes even when only in the tutorial area)...as for the defense of it being because I have a poor rig, I do not.

Haven't quite figured out what it's doing that's so "new" as many of the defenders have called it, but irregardless, the game is what it is...bad in my opinion.

Fixed.

Not sure who said it was doing anything new.  I've specifically stated in a number of threads that it's a throwback to early SWG.  If you're freezing in the tutorial it is most certainly your box, or maybe your connection.  I have an average rig that I built in 2007 and it has yet to drop below 30fps.

There are currently some lag issues around the newb towns, which I imagine is one reason they pushed back the release date and gradually started letting the head-start people in.

I love how people assume that because their machine runs it like crap that everyone else's does too.  Clearly not the case, lol.

Actually, you didn't need to adjust my remark.  It should be a given that what I say is my opinion (much like I am writing now).  One of the things that really annoys me is the annoying habit of preceding or following any comment with "IMHO."  My god, anything you say is going to be "your opinion"...why bother stating it?  It's a GIVEN.

As to your statement, I am only stated some people have defended it as "novel"..thats the general consensus among the defenders.

Second, I have a good rig. If you want, I can post my specs.  I have a great 30 meg connection.  For the rig I am running with the graphics I am getting, it should be much higher than 30 fps.

Please do. Because, the only person I've seen who's had much of a trouble running the game with anything over a 8800 had BIOS issues.

Your connection for a ping is meaningless. Anything over 1mbps is meaningless when it comes to games and ping btw. You can monitor upstream and down stream on FE and I've never seen it go over 1.5kbps up and down. European players have been issues with ping at certain times, however.

Because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it's like that for everyone.  Criticizing a game's performance in a late beta/pre-release stage is fairly silly.  There are so many variables involved and changes being made that of course it's going to fluctuate somewhat.

The point is that the cries of 'the graphics suck' and 'the performance sucks' should be taken with a grain of salt.

Understood on the second point.  I live in NJ, USA.  The only thing I can figure that would come into play for my connection is routing issues.  I'd be more than happy to post a tracert to their game server and match it to anyone else whom is running the game "fine"

Bingo!

Bottom line:

Read the FE boards and the boards here and anyone with half a brain can clearly see that 50% of those that play FE have no performance issues and can tolerate the graphics...the other 50% have performance issues and hate the graphics.

In my book, 50% is not a passing grade so $50 + a monthly fee is too steep of a bet at this stage of the game.

I would highly recommend that unless you are absolutely sure that you can run the game without performance issue and that the graphics won't bother you too greatly after just one hour in-game then it would be much safer (and wise) to wait until the free trial.

Then you can judge for yourself.

This sentence is false.

I agree wholeheartedly.  However, I do not consider myself an average gamer.  I've been building my own rigs for the last 12 years, have been playing MMOs for the last 11 and understand the differences in computer performance due to multiple factors (hardware, connection, drivers, firmware, software, etc) since I've been working as a programmer and network specialist for the last 10 years.

This is a niche game. If you fall into this niche you will love it if you don't then you won't enjoy it. If you are a elitist or a kiddie then you will complain because it doesn't have "uber" graphics or because you can't "PWN NOOBS WITH YOUR LEET SKILLS" or some such rot.

Really the game is under hyped because the devs realize this is not for everyone. Sure they would love for millions of players to sub to FE but I am hoping FE succeeds enough for other indy companies to start  breaking the mold of over hyped supposed "WoW killers" that don't pan out, then stop appealing to there niche fan base because of the changes made to try and appeal to everyone.

And if you don't like FE, well I can see your point to a certain degree, it isn't the greatest game, but to say it "fails" or shouldn't be out there for people to play, well I just don't see how FE is hurting anything.

If you're OC'd on the processor, ram, and GTX 285, you're seriously underpowered.  But that shouldn't cause that bad of a FPS just a side note ;-) , the only thing I can think of is that you're running 7. I've heard 7 has had a few issues with the game, they are working on it. Then again, I've heard of people running 7 that have had way more FPS than their rigs should run.

Like I said, my setup is slightly more powered, but with a 280 and I'm running 90-120 FPS in cities and 40-60 out in the world.

Alls I was saying is check it out.

If you do not like it, that is perfectly fine.  As stated, it might be "niche" game.

I played beta for a month and enjoyed myself.  I like the ideas in this game, and the developers are some of the best I have ever seen.  They ask for our input, they chat with us in chat channels, they allow you to directly contact them.

You may be turned off by this game because of performance issues, but I guaruntee they are working hard to fix these type of issues.  This game has so much potential to add to the already great content, and I expect to get better all the time.

I am no fan-boy, I just happened to see this game on mmorpg.com,  signed up for beta, and fell in love with it.

So either the game is for you or isn't.  And as for F2P.  How can they continue to fix everything and pay paychecks if everything is free.

Well, I guess they could have billboards around the wasteland that say "Pepsi" or "Coke"..or old phone towers with "ATT"..

But all in all I have faith in this game and the company.

Dark age of camelot was similar when it came out.  An unknown company with a new type of idea.  3 realms, excillent pvp, and that was my favorite game ever until it died down and they released some knida crappy expansion packs....Trials of atlantis.

So give it a try if it seems cool.  It has a learning curve and I think that is why a lot of people dislike it.

Give it more than just 2 hours. Get to level 5, or even 10, craft, scavenge, pvp, quest, read the quests and enjoy the journey.

I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.

I don't understand why people feel the need to invent statistics like these. 50%? Where did you get that from? I know there are some people who have issues but it's my impression that they are a minority and mainly through using older PC's or newer ones that are poorly configured. I'm playing from the UK with a two year old PC using Windows 7 64 bit. My ping was 133ms when I tested it last week and I don't have any issues at all other than on some days  and in some areas due to the FE people messing with the code. Most days I get 90+ FPS in the wilderness and 30 -60 in town (Hatter - are you sure you wrote your figures the right way round btw?)  Remember, nobody is being charged game time yet. The thirty days starts some time next week and in the meantime, the devs are constantly tweaking the game.

7 people from my old SWG guild tried the game in late beta. Just one of them complained of general performance problems. He is the same one that had problems with AoC and WAR last year though, so it's probably time he bought a new PC. The other six of us didn't have any game breaking problems, we all bought the game and are having a blast. On the strength of that, several other people we know have said they are going to be buying the game too.

The game isn't perfect but it's more fun than anything I've played since pre CU SWG.

FIrst, I don't OC my hardware,  For me it is just not worth it,

Second, I understand it's a niche game.  However, you're preaching to the quire here! I love this genre..I live for this genre (ok, a bit extreme but you get my point).  I grew up playing Morrow Project, Twilight 2000..one of my favorite..no, take that back, my favorite crpg to this day is Wasteland.  To this day, nothing can compare.  Yes, I loved Fallout 1 and 2 but they were never as good as the others.   Fallout 3?  Disappointing. Lost the essence of the game for me

So, please, don't talk about it being a "niche" game or claiming it's not like WoW (which I despise) so I won't like it.

I wanted to LOVE it...It's my dream genre for an MMO.

I just don't like it.  At all.

Fallen Earth is a interesting concept, but I feel it was poorly implemented.

The crafting I think is what makes it stand out, I love how it goes pretty deep in detail as far as what components you need to make w/e, I don't like the fact however that you basically just throw it on a list, and then can go run around or log out or do whatever you want to do. I prefer active crafting, something like EQ2 for example.

Graphics are obviously not that great, and performance during beta was pretty bad, considering the computer im running. That can be fixed of course though, so I don't worry to much about performance, and graphics don't make or kill a game for me.

The combat was..disappointing. It's literally a circle strafe click fest, which I don't care for. Ranged fighting felt akward and clunky for some reason..hitting a moving npc was harder than it should've been, unless of course he was running towards you. Attacks in general didn't really pack a punch, I couldn't "feel" my attacks landing, if you know what im getting at.

I liked the skill/level system, it seemd a little, i guess basic, but different from standard leveling.

And then theirs just a whole lot of minor things that sort of bugged me.

I don't really have much interest in the game at this point, but I think their is a certain crowd of people who will. I'm not saying im entirely giving up on the game, because the dev's have proven they're listening to their players, so alot of things are open to change, but for now I think I will give the game time to kind of polish and expand a little.

Fallen earth is a great game, something new and original. Yes there were performance issues during beta but now its pretty damn smooth, the graphics you really cant judge from the pictures, you gotta play in them to know how they are. In my opinion graphics and textures were quite detailed its just they can't make a post apocalytic setting look good. Main reason im personally not playing the game is because of the combat system, it just dosent feel right, ive made many suggestions during beta about the controls and how to make the combat better but i guess i'll just wait about 6 months-year to see how the game cooks up and then try it again.

Really? You took those numbers as actual statistics? They were meant to prove a point but apparently it went right over your head. If you don't get what I was trying to say then I'm not even going to bother re-wording it for you. Best of luck and enjoy.
