Ok, so my wife and I are playing Champions Online. Which is a great concept, but so boring to us. There is no challenge, little content, and no real roles. Its just QUICK KILL these 12 mobs.

What I am looking for:

1) Battles that take strategy:

One of the things I miss about old days of EQ 1 are the length of time it took to fight mobs. Now, on that note, I wish the xp per mob was a bit higher, but the fact that buffing, debuffing, healing, and all that actually mattered. Being able to just blow through 12 mobs at a time with no thought of risk or skills bores me.

2) Explorable lands:

The other thing I miss about old EQ is the amount of lands to explore. I played that game for 4 years and still never saw all there was to see. Are there any games out there like this anymore? Also, if I can just fly over everything while the mobs below let me into their lands... too simple.

3) Feeling of Accomplishment:

I like  feeling like when I level I have done something. I dont want to take 3 years to hit max level, but it needs to be alot longer than a month.

3) Roles:

I enjoy a game where the class roles are defined. Defensive character, healer types, crowd control. I dont care for cookie cutter builds persay, but at least make it necessary for roles to be there. In Champions Online, you can have a Crowd Control Build ( as I wanted as my main ) but it does you no good if the crowd you want to control dies 3 seconds after you put it to sleep. No challenge.

So I am looking for am MMO that feels like an adventure. I dont have to be the most powerful or "uber" person in the game, I just want challenge, excitement, and a feeling of danger and accomplishment.

Anyone have any suggestions? I am open to any game out there if you can show me it fills these roles.

Thanks in advance for the advice !

If you are looking to have fun in a game, Warcraft has all of these things your describing, but leveling has been accelerated some since the lower level populations are shrinking (but will be huge again after expansion). People will tell you that you are inferior for playing what is in their opinion an easy game, just spit in their eye (most of these people never complete/attempt the harder achievements).

Lots of content to explore in warcraft, it has a has a huge world (almost seemless, very little zoning)

The caveat here is that the rep it gets for having alot of immature players is true, but theres an ignore button and lots of decent guilds that can nearly eliminate these people from your game experience.

Warcraft is a bit old. Try out or look into Vanguard. It has a lot of what EQ players enjoyed many unique class and much to explore

AoC has nowhere close the content and endless land to explore as EQ, but the gameplay is great and of course, if you have the hardware to run it on close to max, it looks just stunning.

My wife plays a tank, and I have a healer/AoE. Since we have full time jobs and a child, we still have lots of land and instances to explore.

It sounds like Final Fantasy XI might be perfect for you, assuming you and your wife like to group up with others often.

The class roles in FFXI are so defined that, although they've made solo play easier over the years, it's still very hard for most classes.  Mobs are much harder to take down than in most MMOs and tend to require a coordinated group effort.  The level progression is slower than most, but the journey is as important as the destination in FFXI and the feeling of accomplishment you get along the way is great.

There's also nearly endless amounts of content (most of which is optional) and plenty of interesting lands to explore.

The game is pretty old now however, and I'm not sure how it's doing in terms of new players but with the level sync and multiple class system it shouldn't be much of a problem.  Find an active social Linkshell (guild) and you'll have a blast.

We are giving Vanguard a shot. A couple hours in game thus far and I am very pleased.

Helpful people. Amazing world. Unique characters. Graphics are amazing. Character customization is a little weak but who cares if the gameplay is steady and fun.

Thanks for the help everyone.
