I can run the game on full spec no problems, no lag or chopping at all. It's just connection and stability that's the problem and you're right Ethian i should have known better, i've played EQ and SWG so i know Sony of old. Just gobsmacked how bad the performance of their servers and their tech is.

Kind of ironic. The issues you described seem more indicative to when the game first came out than how the game is now.

I played EQII from launch and really enjoyed it, high fantasy at its best. I left for other games later but returned a couple more times. Now though it is absolutely dreadful, nothing to do with the gameplay, all down to the customer service and reliability. Don't take my word for it though, the net is full of problems associated with my experiences over the last few days.

A real shame but i refuse to pay for a game i can't play. Cancelling when month is out. Goodbye EQII, i advise anyone considering going back to find something else to play.

hmmm ok dont know what your talking about, but its working great for me.

I won't play another Sony game in my lifetime or Turbine (now that I've seen what Turbine did with Moria).

Ncsoft is my baby. IMO they are the most original and trustworthy mmo company out there right now. GW1 was and stil is killer and GW2 is going to hit the mmo scene huge, bringing in alot of gamers who continue to say GW1 sucks. Now Aions hitting shelves soon? Hell ya!

All the big gaming companys now have some competion....its about time!! :-)

Just popped onto AB server after reading this and I have since moved to Australia since last went into EQ2, and even from OZ game was running with good ping on max settings, I think you may have more localised issues, either net or comp.

Running on Vista 64, never had to fiddle with any files only thing i can bitch about but is sadly common with allot of MMO,s is having to turn off Anti Virus and arse about with your firewall or even temp turning them off to get the game to install correctly.

are you running a router by any chance

I personally can not disagree with this any more if I wanted to.  When I came back recently I did not experience ANY one of these issues.  But, nice try.

Orly?

Something may be wrong on your end. I just downloaded the entire client through the station launcher about a week ago and it only took a few hours for the whole thing. Since then I've been able to log on with no issue every time I've tried and I've managed to log dozen of hours with no glitches and no crashes other than one CTD from an addon I borked up. I also run Vita Ultimate 64 and didn't have to touch any files. I've never seen a server say full, I see AB hit high and some other hit medium, but I've never seen full.

Ok, thats an utter load of crap. Its your computer, kid. I don't have any of the problems that you have mentioned and never have on any computer I've own (I've owned three) since the day it opened.

Instead of freaking out, how about you actually try to fix the problem and figure out what might be causing it instead of trying to scare people away.

hmm... i think not.

IF anything, EQ2 is probably one of the most stable and damn sure one of the most polished mmos on the market right now.  The game is completely stable everytime i re sub to come back for a visit. Its because this game is so polished and stable that is a huge part of what always draws me back. Have u tried toubleshooting anything ?

Although I don`t currently play EQ2, I can honestly say that it is one of the most stable and fun MMO`s that I have ever played. I didn`t leave for game performance or game quality. EQ2 is top notch in those catigories. I have five lvl 80`s in the game and it was time for a change.

Just come back to EQ2 yesterday. Started a new character on a new server with a couple of friends, and we had a blast. Played on max settings, looked amazing, no lag, no crashes, no instability, and we met plenty of other people.

Guess the OP was just unlucky, or has a dodgy PC setup. This is a really amazing looking game imho. Played alot of MMO's, and this beats them all for looks. Plus the sheer amount of customisation and playability is stunning.

What are you talking about?

I just came back to EQ2 from a long time not playing. Have been playing all day, 7 days a week for the last week...(have a week off of work lol)...

Have not had one problem, patching took me under an hour even though I installed from CDs I've had forever. Have not been DCed once, have not crashed once, never had a problem logging in.

I always find groups, always see people running around, always see people on the chat window chatting.

You sure you did not play another game thinking it was EQ2?

Ya rly ^^ Not noticed any crashes or such myself.  But I think I picked the wrong class. I've leveled a monk to 20, but from what I'm seeing on some of the forums, monks aren't that useful later on in the game. Anyone have any insight they could share on this?

Rarely get involved in these debates but thought Id chuck in my two cents on this one. Played EQ2 very happily on my old rig, reasonable performance but stable and playable. Bought a new rig March 2008 and the thing crashed all over the place. After reading around a bit, trying all sorts of fixes, I found this thread on it. http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?start=1035&topic_id=364955

Now Im not saying that the games broke and noone can play it, but getting on for 90 pages of posts on the same issue suggests that these sorts of problems are not isolated cases. And over two years of complaints about just this one bug - the original SOE post dates from 1 June of 2007, the last post is yesterday - raises some interesting questions about SOE customer service. Moral of the story: maybe the game runs fine for some people, but it sure as hell doesn't for a bunch of others. Try the demo first.

Demo is always a good suggestion if one is available. Not had any problems with EQ2(or any of the other games I play). But I do keep getting a 116 BSOD from both Lord of the Rings online and Dungeons and Dragons online. It appears to be a fairly common problem from what I'm seeing. Bottom line, try a game before you invest money in it.

lol. And I have a new rig with an nvidia 260 core 216, 4 gig ram, and an amd 940 that I've been running about 6 months now. Its only crashed once and that was MY fault because I had downloaded some mod and not installed it correctly.

So please... don't be ridiculous. Just because it didn't work for you doesn't mean its the same thing for everyone else.

the only issue i ever had with this game was the performance issues... and my system is no slouch (4GB ram, Quad core CPU, 8800GTX)  but i still get lag and dropping frame rates....maybe it's their game engine or something cause i can run most games with max settings and with this one i had to tweak the hell out of it to get it to work properly.

Did they fully optimize for multi core,s and SLI mode systems, I just popped back for a reunion on AB server 2 weeks ago, after 14 months away, since then got a different system, i7 cpu and vista 64, didnt have one single issue, other than the usual firewall setting thing...Had it maxed out joined nearly 40 people for a get together and didnt have to adjust even then.....

Only glaring issue I saw after being away for 14 months doing other things is how God damn lazy the designers were in armor models and I logged off to have a hot shower and get over it lol.

Spelling and grammar do matter.

I find your lack of real-life skills disturbing.

9/17/09 1:53:43 PM#48

EQ2 does now support multi-core CPUs (it didn't originally), but I have no idea how well optimized that support may be.  This is a concern I have with quad-cores and older games: with more cores to handle the work, the individual cores don't need as much speed.  For older games that don't support multi-core, you are in effect running on a (slow) single-core.  Aside from being cheap, this is why I still run a dual-core CPU, because the individual cores are faster than on a quad.

Seriously, get a new computer and clamp that gameboy your trying to play the game on.

I played EQ2 from launch till a few weeks ago - and aside from their starting problems neither me nor my buddys had any of these problems your mentioning. It's not SOE's fault that you cant handle your computer :D
