That is a good line.

Originally posted by MMO_Doubter Pretty much. I think very few players don't want to pay homage to a well-known superhero at least some of the time. Face it, that's the big draw with the character creator in these games. No one is to blame, though I do think copycats degrade the experience to a degree. Not allowing them would be worse, IMO. BTW, has anyone seen The Tick? I love that guy.

Unfortunately for you Malakhon that is the nature of MMO games, and in fact life in general: not everybody shares your tastes, playstyle or sense of humour. I just hope you can see the irony of labelling someone an "attention whoring goof" because they are not an immersion-seeking superhero-gaming internet-forum-complaining roleplayer like you. |

Does this mean i'm ruining the game?

On the other hand I too am getting bored of seeing a new Iron Man or Master Chief variant (though of course not really particularly variant) every time I log in. Guess I'm just playing Devil's advocate on a slow day at work. :)

That sums it up well, it's a GAME, if you are "bothered" in any way, you are not having fun with YOUR Game Play. |

Tbh, seeing accurately implemented or hilariously misimplemented clones is one of my main sources of fun in these games :) I saw a perfect Mr. Hyde the other day, along with what I gathered was a hilariously goofy spin-off of Harlequin. Both were fun. Yes, epidemics like the Deadpool, Hulk and Batman clones tend to be a bit boring, but even among those the pitch-perfect implementations and clever adaptations make me smile and nod in approvement. Besides, I can see many people looking at these games as opportunities to act out their fantasy of playing their favorite superheroes. What's wrong with that? (I mean apart from the very real problem of copyright infringements of course, we're just talking principles here.) If some guy wants to swing around as Spiderman, I say go for it. As long as there are original character designs to go with them (and there always will be), seeing well-known capes around don't kill the immersion for me, it invigorates it. Like the OP, I myself use the clones just for some quick fun. I just create them to see if I can do a good job of it and hop into the gamewrold to run, fly or swing around for a few minutes. I never really progress with them. Though this kind of immersion-policing could drive me to creating and playing a snow-white version of the Hulk and call it The Chalk or something :P

I've only seen one Master Chief and I thought he was clever on that one. I didn't realize that one was fodder for champions online bingo. (Where you go to the tutorial and just see who pops up)
as I said in my earlier post, it saddens me a little about people who are so uncreative they plagarize someone elses idea. There is also a distinction in my mind between plagarism and doing an homage that is 'in the style of'. You want a guy who is similar to Batman or Spiderman but you do him just a little different, then rock on. I see that distinction and I understand I am in the minority that others don't (on this board) but then I am also apparently in the minority of people who actually LIKE CO on this board as most of the posts here are negative about it. copycats are not "ruining the game" for me. Snaps me a little out of my immersion which is what I am paying for, but not overly so. What bothers me more is the "Timmy the Retard" or "Uncle Pedobear" ones. The analogy I have there is it's like trying to see how shocking/offensive/naughty they can be for attention purposes. If you are happy with a trouserless mustachioed guy, I could care less and I am not overly concerned about the "Ironmang" ones. I think the game could benefit more from a good Random Hero name generator though. I would think with infinite opportunity to pick a name, there would be less people choosing names like "DOCTORDORITO" all one word/no space.

Err the only reason to play any of these games is to rp as a superhero, for some that may be an existing one and to others it may be one they thought up themselves. Don't let whiners like that get to you, have fun. |

No but I think Liefeld ruined Youngblood a long time ago :) |

Good one. I lol'd. I guess for me seeing someone running around in a completely unimaginative or wannabe offensive toon is less of a problem and more an affirmation that some of us are indeed more creative than others. Since you can't do anything about them and they're always going to be there, might as well learn to derive enjoyment from them. |

They don't ruin the game for me at all. The simple fact is they're going to get their names/outfits changed anyway so if I see one I usually check out what kind of job they've done in recreating the character and then laugh to myself that they are going to be generic'd. Remember that some folks don't read the EULA. Hell I don't, I've played so many MMO's now that I skip right by it. I have what I think is a pretty good recreation of Harvey Birdman sitting in my toons list that I laugh at every time I log in. I just don't play him.

I just want to toss that out that making a character based off a real comic book hero does in fact take a lot more work then an "original" toon. Like the guy that posted a replica of the Young Blood, he problem spent hours finding that exact right color/costume/powers combination, whereas the other guys spend less than half the time to create their ninja or a robot toon.
Like someone else mentioned, if you spend a lot of time making a toon you want someone to notice, and I made a darn good Lobo character and people where more or less impressed by that, then any original ninja or robot guy I could have made. |
