depends on what ur looking for.  I'm waiting to see if they install that AA slider like they were talkin bout in an up coming update.

if your looking for PvP: EQ2 has it.  they have areas that are goodguy controlled and badguy controlled.  and they have lvl range PvP(ie in certain areas only peeps with a 4 lvl difference can attack you, so if your 14, a lvl 18 and below can try to jump ya)

if your looking for PvE: EQ2 has TONS OF BLOODY FREAKING QUESTS(can ya tell i'm not much of a questin kinda a guy lol) they also have dungeons and raids etc etc etc

if your lookin for Crafting: EQ2 has a simple crafting setup, but the crafted items are in demand and are Very well done(it's not a money sink.) plus you can do quests in crafting(called writs, make x # of swords and you have X time to do it in etc)

if ya lookin for a new MMO, give it a try.  I know it's produced by SOE, but don't let that stop ya.  i'm slowly rethinking my position about SOE(it wasn't nice at first, i came from EQ1)

I tried it. It's too bad you gotta go through 10 loading screens just to make it through town.

so what I've heard from here and around it's your basic mmo? like the simplest mmo the building blocks for the "wow mmo" which can be good. and eq is good. should I even consider EQ1 instead of EQ2?

EQ2 is a solid MMO, always good for a play been playing requiem as well, its not the best but its free and if your just for some fun to fill in time while you wait for what ever mmo your waiting for then it works

mm eq1 is still a great game but its hard mode

you can always get the trial its short but it give a good idea of how different from spoonfeeding of todays mmo

eq1 theres no hand holding there ,mostly clues but if your a powerleveler at hear you might pass in front of 20 things to do and never actually get what you have to do

as for eq2 on your graphic card replace all setting

because ingame eq2 can be a big tthing to adjust

once in game set graphic to either balanced of high  ,i dont believe you got computer to push it higher smoothly

if you got physicx eq2 support it

i suggest you start with eq2

EQ2 does tend to be fun if you don't mind the fact that the graphics are a bit dated, and that much of the early game is a ghost town(most people are at or near max level).  I come from SWG pre NGE, so I'm not NEARLY as forgiving of SOE as you appear to be. In fact, if not for the fact that I've tried so many of the current MMO's and needed a vacation from WoW, I'd not have even considered a SOE game.

Yes, its good. Its no more dying off than any other game out there. Sick to death of that question. Play or don't.

Spelling and grammar do matter.

I find your lack of real-life skills disturbing.

Exaggeration.  Aside from the combat zones, most city sectors are directly accessible at the Mariner Bells.

One thing a lot of people forget about EQ2 is that it is one of the only MMOs that has what's called a locked encounter. There is no such thing as kill stealing in this game. Once you attack a mob no one else can attack it unless you call for help. I've been waiting to see if other MMOs have adopted this but for some reason nobody has. The closest you see is most damage dealt wins the experience.

FFXI which was long before EQII does this still to this day!  I would bet that FFXIV will also do the same thing as well!

I think the key to enjoying EQ2 is finding a good group(guild) to play with. I wasn't so lucky =/

I was lucky, when I started playing they had just released the Fae. Lots of people rerolled to play them, so I had plenty of people to play with. Unfortunately I'm not a power leveler and I was left behind.

EQ2 is an excellent MMO.  It might be a bit sparse in the starting areas but the upper level game is hopping and with the ability to mentor if you get in a guild there will be a lot of people that can help you as needed.

EQ2 mostly appears to be a ghost town, there are lots of people in the game.  It's just when they added guild halls people now hang out in their guild halls rather then going to town.  Guild halls are awesome.  Your guild can hire NPCs and buy teleporters.  So you can teleport to your guild hall and find everything you could want, vendors, bank, brokers, crafting stations and npcs, etc

Most of the population is lvl 80, so you will need to tap into that community if you want help with group oriented quests or you can just solo your way to 80.  1-9 chat is kinda like the ooc chat that everyone uses to talk.  This is where you can get help from people.

well m8, my feelings for SoE couldn't sink any lower now.

they Screwed up with the last patch, it's not pretty.  in the feedback section for the latest patch, there was 9 pages of Peeps Screaming for the heads and hides of the people responsible.  i do believe i was 2 posts in that thread post that wasn't calling for the outright slaughter of SoE.

lil taste?  (you will especially know how this feels) they changed the character racial perks around.  and as of yet will not allow the existing characters to re spek thier race of thier char.  Gotta love it when your guild's main tank now has racial perks that a mage would kill for.

Thankyou SoE for totally destroying the sliver of dead skin of trust I had for you.

haha I don't know about the forums but the people in my guild all loved the update.  I don't think anyone lost anything with the racial updates.  Just the change where enhancements are scaled to your level alone makes this an awesome upgrade.  And they are going to be putting a potion on the exchange soon that will let you even change your race.  Certainly if you want want to max your character you will want to change your race but I don't think anyone lost anything on this upgrade they just didn't get the best upgrade they could have for there particular class.  The new racial system is a huge improvement over the old system.

The things people are talking about in that thread is why one race get x and another gets y and also that was a prerelease thread so a lot of the heat in the beginning of it is people wanting to lobby for changes :P  Any change is gonna result in controversy...  But this is a good change that aside everyone improved and got cool perks :) My character got a bump of like 800 HP I was thrilled.  Being a scout it sucked that my special racial ability was a boring tracking ability and not the ability to repair my gear once a day :)  When they do offer racial change potion I might consider getting one to change but who knows :)

I'd say it probably depends on the server.  When someone got me to play I leveled all the way up to max, but ALL the leveling zones were empty with only a day or two exception.  By the time I got to max I was burned out.  Too bad, the classes and setting and group dynamics are pretty swell.

Playing: EQ2
Played: UO, EQ, AC, GW, WoW, CoX, AoC, WURM Online, Ryzom, Eve Online

Not again. Every week someone comes on here asking this. Its no more dying off than any other game. If you want to play, then come play.

Good point. I solo'ed to level 37 monk. This is my second try at the game(level 39 guardian near launch).  Its just not for me. The starting areas are nearly ghost towns(to be expected with a game this old, most people are at or near level cap).  The graphics are dated, and I just couldn't get in to it.  I wish you all the best though.

I played EQ2 back in beta before launch and it was okay to me back then. 5 years and several expansions later I find myself playing again with a friend and I'm loving it so far. I found a class that suits me perfectly and that is great to duo with my friend. If you don't have any friends to play with and help you out than I believe you'll have a hard time getting started in this game. The starting areas for the most part ARE ghost towns. It's hard to find people to help you out or group with at the beginning.

Looool you do not want to play it now. EQ2 is already a monthly subscription game, and they are upping the RMT. They have an LoN card coming up where you are granted an exclusive zone with drops only from it.

Lots of anger about it. Almost 700 replies. You can read about it here: forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m
