It's just plain boredom.

Anyone else having this problem?   I'm in a clan, I pvp and that's fun now...  but I still want to level my character and get him maxed so I'm on the same level as everyone else...  and I watch my str go up .1 an hour...   I watch my melee skill go up 1-2 points an hour...

Fighting the same mobs i've been fighting all along.  Occasionally people in the clan are on and we go farm up stuff that's different but in the end I'm still farming and grinding and it's not a fun grind at all.

Especially since there's very few skills to use.  In other games they give you a full hotbar half way through the game with a variation of skills to use/cast and this makes things interesting.

In this game every where you go is a burden.  You try to fight something and you have to kite it because you can only take 2-3 hits from it before it kills you up close.  Thus melee becomes useless and impossible to train.

Still I've got 4 abilities for my melee ability, 2 which are useless against pve.  Then I've got 2 or 3 spells which I have to level as well as the main skill (why did they do it this way? Does anyone really want to cast barrier 10,000 times?).

I keep finding myself wanting to log in then when I log in I find myself wanting to log out due to boredom.

It wouldn't be so bad if after 6 hours of playing I saw a significant improvement in my character in terms of attack speed and damage...  but there's almost no change in my character I just acquired more money so I can spend it on regs/arrows and such so I can then grind more.

Honestly the ganking wouldn't be so bad if leveling was quicker so we could see a significant change in our character.  Then at least we'd feel like we were getting somewhere...  But instead when we get pked, we feel like we were significantly set back because our gear makes more difference than our skills and when we lose that gear it really hurts.

Because I'm not having fun, I feel the necessity to afk macro.  Basically hit num lock and let your guy swim in the river or lake for awhile while you go do something else.  Etc.  I hate macroers but in this game I bet 99% of people do it.

I can't say that I get bored with the "grind" in darkfall. ThePvE just feels like im playing a first person shooter, and killing enemies is just fun for hours. I also have no had any lack of spells, the number of magic spells in this game is incredible. Possible that you need to check back at a trainer to get more maybe? Maybe even find a new clan that is online more? I never grind the same enemies the whole game and am constantly going to find new places to fight. Since the patch the skills increase in level SO fast it isnt even funny, so I must say I'm not sure where you are coming from. Sorry that the game isn't appealing to you :( I still enjoy it very much!

For me I get involved with the politics and play when I want to, especially when I find out there is a siege going on. I don't have to grind anymore because I have everything I need. You just have to get past the grinding part and the clan is important too. You want a good one not just any random one. Joining a bigger alliance will give you more options and helpful people.

Sorry Dave - truth is from a Darkfall fan is that the game needs more sandbox features to get the casual player more options to engage in. Good news is that more is coming in the October patch, and more and more are added, if you can handle the gank at the beginning and the subsequent lvls(sp?).

I am a PVPer. Seriously a real PVPer. I started out in Asheron's Call on a PVE server (wintersebb in 2000). I was at awe at the first PVP fight I have ever encountered (Sage of the Ages - can you believe I still remember the first PK I have ever seen? -of the Eternal Circle Monarchy vs a charachter from Naja Empire I believe)

I was flabbergasted at the skill level they showed ( if anyone here knows the twitch skill needed in AC Darktide PVP).

I soon became a Player Killer and moved to the Darktide server - best times I have ever had in a game ever

Ever since 2k5 I have waited for DF, and I was pleasently surprised that it brought my PVP dreams to life (FPS aiming, looting that made sence - the need to wait to equip the weapon and re-equip that seemingly absolutely noone from the PVE realm seemed to comprehend, city building and sieging and a crapload more things)

WTF am I getting at?

I just want this game to have support for all kinds of player types (explorers, crafters, pvers etc) just like EVE. On the other hand Eve does not inspire me ( in terms of FFA pvp  - bc of empire space- looting, atmosphere and twitch skills)

But

I wont go through all the things that make DF a special game for me,

I want an EVE without an Empire Space. That is one thing everyone knows cannot be created in the first few years..unfortunately (CCP took 6 years to get there). I dont want 300k  subs although I wish it would happen, but truth is few have the balls to hang on.

Mortal Online is not the answer right now - for at least 2 years in my personal opinion-

I am sorry if I offend anyone here - I have tried Aion Closed beta and Open beta - its not for me.

Aion, WOW, AoC, War, etc I dont think they can improve to get my sub honestly

But DF and MO if they can make it, they have it.

I was rambling for alot of my post.

In any case good luck to all the games coming out

I feel just the opposite from OP while PvE, the tension is to big so cant hold it for hours. Keep track with every mob, while watch surroundings for PK's or others who now want to share the place and to not hit em by accident and go grey and same time watch HP/stam/mana bars not to go to low for being able to still face a possible PK, and feel vulnarable while loot and skin the mob, then something what i call "burden of being full packed with loot" what means the more my pack is full the more tense i feel, and consatntly take care that all of my buffs are always up. It sure gives me alot to do and a lot of tension thats the opposite of boredom.

I guess because you describe the progression as .1 in an hours timespan that you talk about skills you already have at high levels, lets say something like 91.2 to 91.3 ? The speed in low levels is quite fast and even more after the last patch (is now incredible fast i would say) and the slower progress in such high levels is just justified IMO.

If you remove an empire space from EVE, you would be flying in T1 frigs... The game would lost all the dynamics.

There is no reason to have unrestricted FFA PVP, it only limits the options and choices for players.

Well the pace for each skill is drastically different.  I find spells way easier to train and faster than melee, but archery even faster than magery.

Melee you gain 1 point in an hours time, but you have to really be careful and hit and run to survive the higher mobs.

Of course then there's the crafting skills that go up so slow...

On top of that i've never understood the random pk thing.  All random pk really means is you're out farming and you're half life and low stam from farming and then a pk comes and kills you.

Or you're full life and then 3 pks come to kill you.  You pick or choose, but rarely in any game that's had random pking has the "PVP" been any different then getting ganked and being caught at moments that are bad for you.  It'd make more sense if your clan was at war with the farming person, but if you're not at war the random pking just seems silly to allow.

Your problem is that you are watching you grains in STATS. thats a big no no. Stats are meant to be maxed out with normal game play in a years time. The only reason people had 70+ in all stat early in the game is becuase they would afk melee, cast, and arch for hours without hitting anything but still getting skill gains. Those people have now quit. Just play the game normally and you'll do fine along with everyone else.

I do agree that they need more fluff such as fixing housing (make it more customizable), crafting (make it more customizable with an aesthetic skill), and add raid style bosses (the oct exp is suppose to bring those I think).

I enjoyed Darkfall for the 1st free month, but after that the whole game just started becoming overburden.

But I was really enjoying the game until I kept seeing hackers, one after another. My first incident was just outside Mar Shral, we was chasing  a group of 3. We ended up killing one, while the other 2 was running faster on feet then we was on battlehorns. To top if off the guy, I think his name was Pain Train (lol) was casting mana to stamina (as if he was even loosing stamina from running faster then our mounts).

After that I decided to talk to my sg about the rampant hackers in darkfall, come to find out he even hacked. The way he did, he had 3 accounts. 1 account was legit (only using radar and stamina hack), 2nd account he used to farm gold/regs/chests (he used all the bad boy hacks on this account such as teleport, flying, stick to peoples back, speed, all of it...) And his 3rd account he used to go invisible and just teleport around peoples cities looking for easy people to gank. He said he usally made around 150k gold a day using his 2nd account, funny part was he did it to sell for real life money..

We was on our own island, not going to say which. But I can tell you that 1/2 of our alliance used hacks. When I would go to stop by a alliance city to get me some battlehorns made, You could hear people macroing inside the walls, even underground in some cases.

So needless to say, I enjoyed somewhat of darkfall, Specially the newbie stage. But after awhile, the hacks just became to much. We would have people fly into our city, try to attack someone crafting, then just disappear, and they didn't mind disapearing right before our eyes lol. Darkfall could have been a great game, but the company running the show are slackers. Plain and simple..

Here's an example of how grindy this game is.

I'd classify this game btw as a KOREAN MMO grind wise.  Actually, worse.  I played Lineage 2 and I got my character up all the way and I have to say this game's worse.

Here's why: It's based on use.  Each spell has it's own leveling to do to be useful.

Example:

Heal self.  At first it goes up pretty quick, then it hits about 30 skill and it's going up .1 every cast.  Then you hit around 50 skill and it goes up .01 every cast basically.  Do you realize how many times you'd have to cast this spell, which as like a 20 second recast to get it up to 100 skill?

All spells are like this as well.  Very slow to go up.

My melee skill gains .01 basically every hit, if it goes up at all at 48 skill points.  It's a very slow game in terms of leveling.

Well if magic were real, and we were living in this world of Darkfall, I do not think you would be able to master your heal self spell in a days work. It would take a lot of time and practice to become adept with it...it all makes sense to me. The game is meant to be played, not raced to max skill level in all things to be a god character day one.

Well if magic was real ...... If I wanted to spend the same amount of time as I would in RL to learn a skill then I have a much more interesting game to participate in. It is called Real Life!!!!

Games are for fun and relaxation not a second life or job. Good luck on a game lasting that requires people to spend several years "leveling" which you still do in a "skill" based game without any shiney baubles or tangible rewards. The people will throw in the towel and quit long before then unless they can cheat.

Simple fact of economics 101, no customers = no business. If the game is too boring and to grindy then it either goes F2P or fails, plain and simple and has been an unmutable law for over a decade.

What i find funny is that you made that thread after the patch that reduce the grind had been in. From what i read from the OP, he like PVP a lot, but he is sick of the grind, but i thought the grind was cool right now. I thought it was not a problem anymore, so what do you want? An instant cap skill server? It wont happen because it still an mmorpg.

Anyway, try to wait teal the 9 october for the next time, stuff will change a lot.
