FALLEN EARTH is a large dissapointment at least to veteran players saying that is generic and run of the mill is an understatement and thats not to mention many major core device engines first off its based on a virus so the world is sleeply boring sure there were a few nukes but this is effectivly ignored for the most part the world is FAR too easy like many arcade MMOs al you have to deal with is killing this spawn or that spawn so apocoliypse= ignore it seems to use an old "unreal?" engine which for me would have satisfactory graphics level but performance was quite poor for this level of graphics engine hovering at a playable 11-14fps when with my machine it should have been 30-40fps yes they have vehicles but they are NOOB BAIT,, no customization AT ALL and no vehicle physics engine these are ground huggers folks (they have a quad runner quest but since its a ground hugger its really boring didnt even bother with the quest after a charactor wipe as horses are much funner and far more effecient and can jump. I loved my black race horse. there is no grenade (throwable) physics engine you aim at a mob with a slowball pitch and if you miss (90% of the time as the aiming is NOT there) you miss entirly as no splash damage at least from misses. (grenades acids toxins = useless NO WATER PHYSICS it looks like water but you cannot interact with it or wade through it,, as a matter of fact there were places where you could get stuck between the sides of a ditch and the water. the clothing they have baseball caps jackets shoes most pants most shirts are all OBSOLETE at level 5ish because they use a STAT CLOTHING SYSTEM and have NO costume clothing option or even any clothing toggles!!! what this means that for the first few levels you can get by wearing most any cool clothing but even as low as 1st level (15 armor skill) you start to shift to the stat clothing in this case a duster and chap armor,,, later you wear a gasmask and helmit 24/7 as there are NO toggles to remove these item graphics.. to me this takes alot away from the expirence. oh lets not forget all that charactor design you did on the face and hair is allways hidden unless you choose to not wear the protective clothing there. my pet peeve they dont even have the shotgun damage in the corect order! oh travel times are overly long you spend about 1/3 of your time traveling to get anywhere I recomended a steam train, but I expect within a year FE will prob patch in some form of lame teleport (pod porting) this makes even short medium and long range grouping inprobable if your not in the same town or maby the next town over,, forget it and if there in another ZONE... lol some say "its apocolypse its supose to be hard and long" but then I counter with then why is food and drink so trivial?" and generally NOBODY wants insta travel nobody ever traded a stack of stew for a stack of ammo not unless it was a joke. and of course never enough inventory as far as MMOs go its in the upper end of the small catagory they need to double or even tripple this they even have multiple types of the same ammo! as in light rifle ammo,, effecient light rifle ammo,,economic light rifle ammo so for this 1 gun type there are 3 different stacks for the exact same gun so thats like 21 stacks instead of 7(oh just to be clear the only difference is the amount produced when crafting not the actual weight or damage basic ammo is purchassed off venders and found as loot drops effecient produces ummm 160 of the base ammo just with the lable "effecient" and economic produces 240? basic ammo but with the lable "economic" so when your level 35 and your crafting you craft the economic (because it makes the most per craft time) and you loot the common type so at minimum you have 2 stacks per weapon type unless you leave the loot ammo rot prety stupid eh? ******** this is not to say tht everything is bad they have very nice rifle scope graphics. the night sky and the day/night cycle is the best ive seen and the crafting system and resource gathering is mostly TOP NOTCH the resources are dispersed in a prety much organic feeling way as there are the ocassional "sweetspots" with good skill management you are able to craft for yourself food and drink while usefull is relegated to a nearly optional catagory (wouldnt want the need for finding food and drink in an apocolypse world to get in the way of the bloodthursty warmonger arcade players) oh the manu tends to be kinda yuppy and they are precaned recipies no player creativity here (makes me sad as food and drink can be such major plot devices)
final id hold off on fallen earth for at least a few months till they install the missing engines and finish the performance polish at the very least it seems like they had one team with awesome ideas make the first part of the game then they switched out teams to toss together the rest why else would they have costume clothing that is all but useless (makes for prety diceptive screen shots though dont it?) quality vs quantity make a world, not a game, we dont want another game. |

Wading through the bad grammar and spelling to respond to this. First off, I'm gonna start off by saying you need to complete high school. It's quite apparent you haven't yet. Boring is a subjective term. How do you mean it's boring? It's based on the grand canyon, so there is a lot of desert space with nothing there, if that's what you mean. But there is also a lot of stuff out there as well. Random camps of mutants and other humans, animals, nodes that you can scavenge for resources....what more do you want? A city? Go play Grand Theft Auto or something. Um....that's what any game is about. Not sure what you're trying to prove here. And far too easy? You must be a genius because most people argue that it's not easy at all. You complete the tutorial which starts you at lvl 40 and pretty well equipped and get dropped into the world with very little direction other than a couple of quest givers in front of you. What you do after that is up to you. The engine it uses is one built by this company and the game is actually something to show the graphics engine off. While some have complained about poor performance, on my machine I have suffered very little performance hits, even in areas where people complain about the most. (I'm running an Intel 3.0ghz dual-core, 4 gigs RAM, Vista 64, 8800GTS 512 MB) Performance for some has improved appreciably since Beta, which is what I'm betting you're basing all this on, since I doubt you paid for the game and your review is a bit out of date. I admit vehicles and horses could use some customization options. Not much to say here. I suppose even the sun shines once in a while on a dog's ass, as they say. Grenades do operate on a slow throw based system. No splash damage though? I use crude frag grenades on groups of mobs all the time and have splash damage appear correctly. Perhaps you're trying to use them beyond their range? Yes, you cannot interact with the water. Think about the setting. Nukes, virus....why the hell would you want to enter the water? That's the 'IC' reason, but in reality, perhaps they didn't want to mess with the coding of adding the ability to enter water into the game. I really don't know, but it doesn't detract from the game that I've seen, as it is a desert environment, it's not like lakes are a common thing. I would argue that clothing/armor have a lot of toggles you don't find in any other game. No, you can't turn off the 'helmet', but why should you be able to? You want to show off, then you pay the price by not being protected. Welcome to the world. And you complain it's too easy. Also, on a lot of jackets, you have the option to unzip them or zip them all the way up. You can wear 2 different gloves, shoulders, arm armor. You can change your hair style at any time, such as if you're wearing a pony tail, you can make it to where your hair is out of it as well. Again, I'm not sure what you're arguing about. You claim this is generic when it has features not present in any other game. I'm gonna assume you meant they don't show shotgun damage correctly. Well, breaking down hit detection to single areas is quite a bit of physics detection, which would slow your machine down even more. They do have 'headshots' which do more damage and have a higher chance of critical damage, but other than that, it's just hit or no hit. Also, one could argue that you're using slugs vs. buckshot, since slugs would do more damage. You want instant travel, then go play something with instant travel. It's a big world and they want to impart that idea to you. Deal with it. Not sure what your argument is here. No food and drink requirements like EQ did back in the day? In the higher levels of cooking, food imparts some very nice bonuses that makes it quite valuable. In the lower levels, it's something that is useful and helpful, but not required to have. Your claim here is inventory is too small and based on your str. I'm not sure what you're arguing for. You claim the game is 'easy' and yet you want it 'easier'? Honestly, I'm not even sure what your argument is based off of. You claim the game is generic and run of the mill and yet you list a lot of differences. You claim it's easy and yet want it dumbed down even more to make it easier. My conclusion is just that the game is not for you. Added - I see in your sig you are wanting a 'world and not a game', yet everything you argue for is 'game' vs. 'world'. You want instant travel. You want huge inventory space. You want to be able to show off your character's customization without having to take off your armor. You need to think about what you want before you claim one thing over another. |

Meh, it is an Indie game. It's what I expected, not as much polish as one would like. The OP shouldn't really be surprised by this. It's not a AAA title. |

The games only just come out , lol sure it has faults. Just like every other game out there, when they first come out there never finished I think the game is going to be great in months to come, but thats just what i think :) I would say to everyone out there thats thinking of giving it a go , Give it a go and make your own mind up http://www.speedtest.net/result/502097918.png |

Will there be a free trial? If not, then 'giving it a go' means a non-trivial (top most folks) cost up front. |

this game rocks, people have there pick of games now days, but this game is more polished then WAR or WoW was at launch. I'm playing the head-start right now, it sort of sandbox plus they going to add housing and clan houses, some of the gm's in game have taken notice about custom horse and cars so that might get added as well. the company is listing to there player base. this game has a bright future it made me kick wow to the curb finally.. my wow addiction is cured yay!

I played the beta for a short while, but since it had the hobby of creating bluescreens for me I quickly stopped that. I don't think (from my beta experience and according to what I read and saw) that the game is perfect or anything. The graphics do look subpar and I personally dislike it a lot that I can't make any "ugly" characters, in matters of beeing short, fat or just anything but the generic person. But well... games have its ups and downs. Calling FE "fail" seems to be a bit quickly. Games are no fail as long as you have fun and think they are worth the money. And if that ain't the case, then it failed for you personally and not in generally. It also depends on the way you approach games I guess. Some people expect something to be this and that, and if it ain't the case they don't give it a try but instead complain. |

The OP has a lot of contradictions I have noticed. Fallen Earth / Lords of War |

You'd think at 43 years of age you'd learned that concept by then. I know plenty of "veteran gamers" that have been playing since Ultima Online and Asheron's Call that enjoy FE and the direction Icarus' has outlined in how they intend to grow it. Aion and more of the same is calling you. Have fun! Asheron's Call. The one open world, classless progression, live team content oriented game that ALL game sites and developers show little respect for as a template to pattern future MMOs after.

"Easy" only equals "better" for crack addicts and MMORPG developers. |
I have to agree with most of the other posters here....the OP is way off base. Perhaps he should return to WoW rather than complaining FE is not WoW. |

I wish forums had a feature:
"Vote - delete thread" available to old members.
The game barelly launched and we already have a thread with a big "FAIL" word on it. This will be enough to scare doubtfull people away even if the OP has no idea what he is talking about. |

I played the open beta and found the game to be prety good actually even despite all the issues at that time, ive not played it in over a month now, so no doubt things are much better. Although i too did not like the fact that one could not interact with water in any way, i would like to see this added at some point, but for me it's annoying and takes a little something away from the game...No idea why i feel this way but i do. I just like more realism in the games i choose to play and feel that i should be able to swim on top of the water at the very least. But thats just me. But at the end of the day im not going to judge a game based on weather i can or can not swim. |

I dunno... has it been long enough that the WoW crowd can consider themselves veteran MMO gamers? I really don't know what the minimum standard here is. ---------------------------------- MMOs Currently (worth) Playing: None. MMO hopefuls: Age of Conan. |

I disagree with your post entirely. I think this game is great fun. The crafting is awesome,;the community is helpful; I never feel like I'm grinding; you get experience from crafting and scavenging, you can distribute your ap however you like, avoiding cookie cutter molds; everything has been destroyed by the apocolypse, so of course its not bright and colorful and full of butterflies, it's desolate and most of the trees are dead, hence why you are scaveging stumps instead of chopping trees with an axe. There are bugs still being worked out, but every patch the game runs so much smoother, this game will be quite ready for release. |

This game is about desolation in planet earth...post apocalypse...either u like it or you dont...as an mmo its one of the best most potential out there..and it didnt even release yet.. |

As someone new to these forums here to gather some information about newer games and options currently available, I feel the need to share my reaction to this thread. This is only my opinion, but I offer it up as constructive criticism.

This post was so devoid of intelligence I think I am actually stupider for having read it. I'm on the fence about FE but it seems this guy just has an ax to grind. What a bunch of nitpicky BS listed as the reason this game sucks. OP - playing WoW as your first MMo does not qualify you as a veteran MMO'er. |

Originally posted by Kolinka Well said! It appears you and I are in the same boat when it comes to garnering information regarding specific games that pique our interest. For the most part I can forgive bad spelling and grammar to get to the main gist of the post and use my personal tastes and experience to weed through what I would find interesting or not about the game. However I can't stand when someone attacks a poster's intelligence (i.e. bad grammar or spelling) when they clearly don't agree with their comments. If this the poster gave a glowing review of the game using the same writing skills, most of the people here would not have said a word regarding his Intelligence Quotient. Now, with that said. It's way too early to label this game "Fail". It's an indie company attempting to make an MMO, (not an easy thing in today's market). I'm very interested in an "post-apocalyptic" mmo and will be following FE closely. In my opinion, indie companies deserve a bit more leeway in their game development process. |

The Chronicles of Spellborn had a free trial when it launched where you could experience the early levels of the game for free for an unlimited time period. On top of that you didnt have to spend £30 - 40 to buy the game. You just started paying the monthly subscription and that was it. Although the game later went F2P its a shame all mmos dont offer a free trial at launch. It should be a standard thing for mmos considering the amount of money that gets charged for them and the state most of them are in at launch. |
