Who says the people complaining were men?  These sorts of complaints can generally be expected from an organization of people (men and women) that are aimed at specific topics such as this.  I seriously doubt it was a general gamer's concern.

Don't think it matters either way to be honest.  The fact is that sexy sells, you have to look no further than the left of your screen where some animation is depicting some scantly clad female that is posing in one regard or another.  For AoC it was a HUGE selling point.

So true but look it how Blizzard markets WoW. If you look on their game boxes they put the number of subscribers on their for marketing purposes.  To me and you and other people out their may not care about subscription numbers but to mmos companies it is a big deal.

Don''t cry if you don''t like a game. Find another and have fun!
It''s a more healthy tactic :)

I absolutely hated the game.
It was an Asian watered down version of WoW that played like a "point and click" GW mixed with some bad EQ2 emotes.
Nothing innovative at all in my eyes.  They presented flying as some brand new aspect.  I got "Hover" in CoH 5 years ago.

Not impressed.
I hope the people who play it have lots of fun, but I just couldn't deal with the "kill 10 boars" type of questing all over again.

Which means you are not playing pretty much any of the MMOs out there.  Leaving you with what? EvE?  Don't get me wrong I don't blame you whatsoever but the fact is that is where the current model for the majority of the MMO market is today.

Nope, just that quantity does not equal quality.

How can you be re-tarded if you are already tarded?

9/15/09 4:52:00 PM#57

See I don't see this huge cancel of pre-orders myself, I played beta with some very, very picky people, and all these people ended up purchasing the game. Honestly I see a lot of people playing this for a while. Mind you that most people are playing it until something, something, or something comes out, but still the fact that they chose it over what is out currently has to say something for it. :P I personally know I will be playing it for quite some time, and I believe I will enjoy it as well. :)

I still don't get it.  If you like the game, play it.  If you don't, don't.  This E-Peen flaming over subs and boxes sold, sub retention and cancellations cracks me up.  The MMO industry has become nothing more than a "look at me, I'm one of the cool kids" contest.  Some of you folks need to get some sun...

Aion is far more hardcore than wow. (Leveling duration, death penalty (xp loss) )

Point and click controls can be disabled in the options screen....

As for the craft : Craft is usefull, and very competitive stuff can be crafted. (unlike in wow) More than that, the craft "Critical hit" system is quite cool

Nothing innovative : absolutly right :  Aion just take the best of what currently works in others mmos.

The Cry engine make Aion running smoothly on high resolution. I hardly see any actual mmo (or even upcomming ones) that can compare to Aion on the visual aspect. Not even talking about combat animations and effects that are just awesome

Game is live since 1 year in Korea, so we, American and EU players, benefit from 1 year of patching and balancing.

I'm an EU player, and about figures, it's 300K  EU COLLECTOR EDITION pre order, at the same time, AOC had 110K and WAR around 100K (collector AND standard), and it was at this time impressive. More than 2milions actives suscribers in Korea, dont have the figures for the china, but I read its around 1M and growing. (no confirmed sources)

Whenever you like it or not (and its all about personal choices), Aion is definitly something big in the actual mmo industry.

(sorry for my bad english posting from FR)

We seen new games lately that sold more than twice 300K at the release. It is keeping the players that is the hard thing.

I actually thought it would have sold more by now. It will be very interesting to see if they can keep the players or not, it all depends how fun it is in the long run.

Good luck with it Aion. :D

Quote from Simon Hill's article www.brighthub.com/video-games/mmo/articles/35992.aspx (published May 22, 2009)

"Are you curious about how different MMORPGs compare in terms of player numbers? It can be very difficult to find accurate information and the developers tend to count inactive users in their statistics. This article takes a look at some MMO subscriber populations."

"Top MMO Subscriber Populations
Let’s take a look at the top MMO subscriber populations. Remember that these figures come from the developers or publishers and they all apply slightly different criteria to count active subscribers. This article is only examining games so social MMOs like Second Life are not counted. These are rounded figures."

World of Warcraft – 10,000,000
Runescape – 1,250,000
Lineage – 1,000,000
Lineage II – 1,000,000
Final Fantasy XI – 500,000
Dofus – 500,000
Eve Online – 300,000
Lord of the Rings Online – 300,000 (estimate)
Warhammer Online – 300,000 (estimate)
Age of Conan – 100,000 (estimate)

So if we compare that 300k preorders to that list it will take Aion pretty high...

then lets add Aion C subscribers and we get Aion 2nd...

not so bad afterall...

just to keep ppl talking :D

I think a lot more people are going to wait a few months after release to give this one a shot.  Let them get in a few more patches.  Right after the holidays will probably be a good time to give it a try.  At least, that is what I'm doing.  I'm tired of being a guinea pig.

Aion already has been in a release state elsewhere (Asia) for a year now, the guinea pig factor has already been worked out by the Asian community.

Actually, it's 299,999...since NCsoft can't even get their act together enough and realize when someone canceled their preorder. Valve refunded my money, but NCsoft still shows me having an active CE purchase with play time until mid-October. Too bad I won't be playing it. =P

Why do people pre-order? I just never got the idea. I reckon half of those preorders will probably stop playing after 6months. At least NCsfot will be happy they got more funding for GuildWars2 (oh wait! that must be the real reason for Aion)

OMG, too true.  I wouldn't have quite put it that way, but the man's spot-on.

Played the open beta, yawn. Just another asian MMORPG that's a rehash of Mortal Heros and others. No $50 out my jeans for this junk. I expect unopened games going to the game resellars at fast.

Main reason is the early access i believe.

Thanks to the numerous betas that were available, most people that pre ordered the game did it after several live tests.

Btw i see a lot of free bashing on this thread, obviously written by people who have not even tested the game...

I was not very involved in that game until i could test it during the last open beta, I then had to admit it is a very polished game, with some good pvp mechanics and awesome visuals.

In Europe most of majors guilds are moving from AOC, Darkfall and WAR straight to Aion, and it is for some reason.
