One of the funniest things I see on these reviews is people that say this... I have played wow for years and years... I have 7 lvl 80 characters and done every raid.... and playing this game, it is just more of the same... I will go back to playing wow .
Logic escapes these people. How on earth is a new storyline, a new world, angellic looking characters, new stories.. etc be less new... than doing exactly what you have done before a thousand times? (which btw IS by definition 'More of the same')
I am baffled. Did they expect the computer game to give them a handjob or something? |

Just don't mind them better for who will play aion they won't be around ruining the fun. |

I agree OP, it is .... LESS of the same. Where is my flying mount? Where is my mount? Where is my underwater world? Where is my seamless open world with NO invisible walls? Where are my extremely polished scripted RAid bosses with reactive phases. "Get out of that fire" and "please heal me in that pot " Where is my ladder based PvP competition? My beautfiul and extremely crafted/polished Battlegrounds? Where is my changing world in phasing? The destructable buildings and mounted tank combat? My dual specs? Where is ... the game? I guess it hides deep in the pockets of some Korean bank account.

As stated, logic with your average WoW player is more like an oxymoron. Although what I do find funny is what people are looking for into Aion. I for one, am looking into hard RvR pvp. Aion looks like it, the abyss looks like a damn sexy place to me. WoW, while being quite good for the PVE, failed past vanilla war to keep the RvR war going outside of crappy BGs. I liked ambushing people bash in vanilla with my warrior. The plaguelands/that desert place were really awesome place, and no flying mount meant people would get cornered and killed. Those were the days, but since BC, there hasn't really been a good RvR PVP mmo, RF online stood up for a while, but died when it went F2P. Aion comes in and is gladly accepted, but some people, who for instance wants easy mode PVP or PVE won't find as good content compared to wow (because they are looking for naother WoW, not looking for another game).
tl;dr; butts. |

Originally posted by Zorndorf I dunno if you were being sarcastic, but everything you just mentioned is what broke the game to me. Flying mount removed the thrill of open RvR. WoW always had invisible walls, guess you never bumped into them. Scripted raid bosses? Those are FREAKING EASY, scripted fight are easy mode of raiding. Ladder based pvp is broken because of powerful team combinaision, no real choice. Vehicle combat is horrible, worst thing they implemented so far (other than flying mounts). World phasing seperates player while in the same zone, I disliked it since some people would use that to flee from me. Duel spec is the only thing I'll agree upon. Blizzard catered to the cowards and the weak when they gave those new features. Raid bosses are now freaking easy, it's just learning how to beat him, and then rinse and repeat. Flying mount, vehicles, BGs, etc... are all coward tools not to be fighting one on one. Doesn't change the fact that both game are extremely different, and that WoW does not necesserily bring what someone is looking for. |

Note how most start to name the things they hate about WoW (And a WoW player), yet not discussing how Aion is similar to WoW (Or atleast the statement). Try again. ![]() |

The first 10 levels are what's going to grab a player and if current World of Warcraft players are getting the feeling that the game play and whatever are similar to what they already have or that 'there's nothing new' I think they're asking themselves 'why should I drop 5 years of input into one game for something that isn't that different?'
I don't want to debate the differences, but this is an attempt to appeal to your sensibilities and explain the attitude that you've encountered.
At least, this is my take on it. :) |

This forums are totally full of discussions like this, and never lead to any point. I liked L2 for what it was... I liked WoW for what it was... I like Aion for what it is... In future i will like other game for what it will be... And so on... I play games because what the games are, not based in comparisons, i thing comparing games is a waste of time, but thats me ;) |

True, won't disagree with that feeling, but as said before, those reactions from your usual WoW players. They already know what the end-game is in WoW, but they don't know what it is in Aion. They don't want to work to get there to see what it's like, and many don't even bother looking at what it is via the internet. They just say "LOL AION NO END-GAME". Obviously, on that point ,we don't know yet since we only tested up to level 30. |

My guess is that , its younger ppl that are flaming and are distubed by this. Kids these days expect more of a game that its possible, yes the computer world has evolved darn much the last 15 years, but we are not in year 6898 just yet. and like one guy here said , the game will not masturbate you while playing. hehe /Z |

There's no harm in raising the bar in expectations, it inspires creativity and raises standards. This is how things evolve.
It's been said countless times here that NCSoft played it very safe with Aion going with tried and tested formulas for a profitable game release.
Nothing wrong with that.
Then you have a small independent developer like Adventurine who tried to do something else with Darkfall, which works for some, but not for others...
For me personally, I'd like to see more people pushing the limits and making mistakes so that MMO games in the future do evolve.
I don't think however, that people expect more than is possible, just something new. |

I got scared after the game announced me that I had been playing for 10 hours (it does that once in an hour, I know) and told me to take a break. I haven't felt such "lost in a game-feeling" since LoTRO and i loved that game. I just hope I don't get too addicted... |

That statement is about as vapid as anything I'd expect from these forums: You "people" have populated these boards since their inception, yet you've never ceased to amaze me with your constant stream of derogatory diarrhea about people who play popular games. You and the OP both fail at being witty, since Aion really does have a lot in common with WoW and hasn't really made innovations in any department other than implementing a lot of what people have seen before in other games. For most people it's about the combat and the two are definitely more similar than others, so why shouldn't people be upset that the genre has been given more of the same? That having been typed, I think it's necessary to state that I WILL BE PLAYING AION on released, since it is different enough for me to consider playing it and runs relatively well on my machine, although I make no delusions about the fact that I might get WoW deja vu when playing it and that it does lack some of WoW's fundamental features (i.e. quest content, open world, meaningful character development). What I don't understand is why you feel it necessary to attack players of the game who voice valid opinions giving potentially new customers good information before buying a product: Are you so full of yourselves to the degree that you think anybody who doesn't share your preference of game is intellectually inferior, because I doubt any of you have made any remarkable contributions to a field of thought, or have even gotten PhD's in your field? I had met plenty of WoW players in grad school who were getting their PhD (and one who had even gotten a PhD of mathematics), so please spare us the "I'm better than you, because you play a popular game" routine that has really worn thin over the past 5 years.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed. |

Sorry, but this is an extremely poor argument. Because all you're saying that makes this different from WoW is that it has a different storyline and different graphics. Thats not helping your cause as neither of these are very important to a good game experience, especialy in an MMORPG. |

I can answer that for you. Bashing people who play a popular game makes you a 'cool' dude. Now remember. Microsoft and WoW are bad and people who use either are fools. I'm feeling so cool now |

Aion might have things in commen with WoW. But the soul of the game, what it is about, why people should play it, i.e. the end game world PvP(vE) is NOTHING like WoW. Maybe it is kinda sorta like DAOC. What drives me nuts, is that people who say "it's" just like WoW, aren't looking at probably what is the biggest and key feature in Aion, which as a matter of fact actually sets it apart from the lame battleground grindathon. Maybe this is because of people's misconceptions in terms of what they are looking for from Aion. If I wanted PvE raids and instanced battlegrounds, WoW is perfect. Aion isn't about that, and it pisses me off everytime people say they are essentially, the same. When the two games have completely different souls and fundamentally different philosophies. |

I guess the logic is why play a wow clone (AION) when you can play the original ? I'm bored with WOW too and AION is certainly not the remedy to my boredom, it's WAY too similar. |
