Ok, I have a lot of mmo experience and had played EQ2,  and I must say that I over looked EQ1.

I'm reading post, watching Youtubes, and finding fan sites.  I must say I'm getting excited about you little nest egg you guys and girls have:)

Anyway ;

1) People are saying don't play the trial, as it's not a good representation of the game with being old and such, BUT others are saying that the learning curve of the game is a little ruff..... So......understanding that, will the trial give me at least an accurate view of the regular game UI, and drop down boxes ?.......I could be open minded to know that the game is better.

2) If I like it, I'm under the impression that I should buy the latest expansion and ALL the ones before.  Because of the Mercs....... now thats a lot of gaming to load in ones computer just to get the latest, there are something like 16 games.  I'll have to load them all ?

3) What do I buy ?

I would give the trial a shot. It is fun and all, just not how EQ really is. Therefore; if you use it ONLY to get accustomed to the game and its UI, I would say that it would be a good idea. Just dont draw conclusions or quit b/c of the trial

Its not as much as you might think. Im not sure on the total but I dont think its more than 15 gigs. Most people have that much in music.  However, if you decide to only install certain ones, then you can. You just wont have acces to the zonesa or content that they provide. Your level cap shouldnt be effected. I used to have only Class EQ, Ruins of Kunark and Planes of Power installed because PoP what my level range, I was a Iksar and I needed to have RoK installed and you need Classis EQ installed. Bottom line; you can pick and choose your expansions to install.

3) What do I buy ?

If you mean to play the game? Honestly I would pick up a copy of Secrets of Faydwer from Amazon.com its only $2.00 and include all the expansions

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000WCUNNK/ref=sr_1_olp_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1252687101&sr=8-2

As for game time you should buy a 90 day game card from Gamestop.com

http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=40924    That is a link to the site. You cant buy online, only instore.

Hope this helps you out :)

1.  For a first time player I do recommend going through the tutorial (by default when you create a character, they send you to the tutorial zone).  It helps.  Unless you are a crazy adventurer like me, I say dump me into the jungle and see if I can crawl my way out lol.  But yes, going through the tutorial will help.  And with the trial you can somewhat get used to tweaking the UI and recreate various characters just to play around with them.

The first 10 levels it's pretty basic hack & slash, so you aren't going to get a good feel of a class early on.  But a character usually starts getting better spells & abilities after lvl 10.  So keep that in mind.

2. Latest expansion contains all expansions yes, it's called Seeds of Destruction, currently available via online digital download.  You can get it from everquest.station.sony.com/everquest.vm

Pretty much you just download the launcher, and it'll patch the game and download all the files you need.  No you don't have to go through 15 boxes and 30 CD's to install them.

Good luck!

Thanks Swoogie, and Mardy :)

I read every word, and I'll do what you guys say.

Life's situations will cause me to waite a few weeks, but I'll give your game a shot, be respectful, And earn my welcome. If it's not for me, I'll still respect a classic.

thanks

Keep in mind that the default UI isn't all that great, and you'll definitely want to sort out your chat boxes ASAP. (Luckily, it's all highly customizable, and you can get mods from eqinterface.com.)

Thanks also Neschria,

Ill be defiantly taking your advice and added eqinterface.com to my favorites.  Also what you guys are telling me and a bit more investigation I think When it comes time ( about two weeks ) I'll just buy Seeds of Destruction, I did a little store shopping in my neighborhood this weekend, and since Gamestops seem to be screwing the PC player with only a small rack of PC games, I went to Best Buy where they usually have more of a selection, and they seem to have just cut back also.  I like to have a disc in my hand but may go digital.

A lot of old mmo's seem to lack in the map area.  EQ2, and Dark Age Of Camelot were always very poor when it comes to maps, So I'm sure I'll be looking for a map add on too.  When it comes time, I'll ask for a popular server, and hope I could find a guild good guild with Ventrilo voice chat.  But thats the cart before the horse.

Thanks :)

I don't know how it is now but voice chat never really caught on in EQ. I think some high end guilds use it. Have you played the trial yet?

For maps, www.mapfiend.net    It's got all the maps you need.

As for voice chat, EQ1 actually has built-in voice chat so you don't even need vent.  But I know lots of guilds use vent so I'm sure you can find one that suits you.

No I haven't played the trial yet, I work for the US Army, and will be leaving from Pennsylvania, going to Ft. Knox Ky, leaving on Sunday.  No time to play anything until I get settled down their. I may just blow off the trial and go right for SoD.
