ive gotten tired of wow and the battleground afkers/bots and its obvious that people who disagree with a petition for votekick feature are dubious to say the least. not to mention blizz as ignored this issue for a long time now. so Ive quit, and I am deciding to come back to AOC, but im hearing drops in populations so I dont want to really come back to a dying game. Only bright side ive seen so far is the big patch comng up that will fix and add to the conqueror class which made my day, but i dont want to seem like Im wasting my money.

Not trying to be a smartass here, but you'd probably be better off looking at the official forums for a better idea.  All you're going to get here are fanbois and shills saying the game is growing (it's not) and better than ever (probably true, for what it's worth) and haters and trolls crying DOOOOOOOOOOOM.  I don't play on Tyranny, so I have no opinion on that server, but IMO Wiccana pops have dropped significantly since I came back a couple months ago.  I'll be cancelling myself as soon as this month's sub expires in two weeks.  It's definitely better than it was last year when it launched, but it just doesn't grab me.

There's a thread on the main page with people complaining about the pop of Tyranny dropping and another "server merges?" thread.  You might want to check the tyranny forums also to get a feel it.  Unfortunately, you won't be able to post since you aren't a subscriber, but at least all those people are paying customers.

Tyranny is the highest in population.  Wiccana and crimmeria also have decent populations, set i heard had a good size as well.

Chosing tryanny will be your best bet.  Just dont get all emo about getting ganked, you need a LOT of pvp xp to level up.

 Yes, but fanbois do actually just want to hear what they want to hear. Truth is brutal to face for the developers. Getting out of the evil circle of hype and lies are rare. Do not expect it to happen, its a psychotic trap of denial that is hard to get out of. Only thing that could ever save Funcom and Age of Conan is if they started to say "Sorry, we have been lying all the time. Now lets start all over again and be truthful to you dear valuable paying customer".

Tyranny's population is RAPIDLY shrinking, at least in terms of people online.  Whether these people have maintained these subscriptions remain to be seen.

But will this last long enough for Funcom to finish the expansion pack...before the game falls below that threshold where a recovery is likely impossible?  That remains to be seen...but certainly the fact that the game's population continuously seems to shrink is a horrible sign.

Funcom was able to build AoC and keep Anarchy Online going because they went public and sold $50,000,000+ of common stock.  That well has dried up.

Eventually, with revenue dropping each quarter, 300+ employees and 4 operation points worldwide, something has got to give.

the launch of AO was even more terrible then that of AoC, and they had way less cash in those days. u will be suprised how solid their financial position remains

Population is a bit down because of summer, now we are moving into the Autumn and with updates just around the corner people are gearing up especially for that Conq patch as it is the most played class. Later on in Autumn we will have the PvP partial focused Patch 1.06.

The fact the population has ever so slightly (imo) naturally dropped (summer months just) is something for haters to try and spin and exploit, when the simple fact if your getting adivce from people who have not set foot in game in over a year. Bit crazy eh.

Personally I have a character on Tyranny, but have not logged onto that one since around May (things were ok then as Winback prog)

i think i may just wait and see what happens with the conq patch and make my decision based on the overall activity on the servers on aoc website. until then ill be playing Aion for now. thanx for the info.

People usually play more during the summer because they have more free time, whether they are in school are not there have always been more on in summer months. And the population is going down, so I am right in that people played during the summer and now there are going to be fewer and fewer on.

I played a bit during the win backs, like  most people I didn't resub but that is because the game isn't great today and a fix to barbarians isn't going to blow my mind.

-im working on a white sands character on tyranny just for fun.  Just like wiccana and crimmeria (havent played on set) things are bustling in tortage, global chat is active.

Population is good on tyranny, so good that they dont allow character transfers onto it (they didnt change that did they?).

howcome everytime you read about AoC theres talk about some new patch.. hmm... maybe its because now gameplay isnt sufficent and so people believe itl be by each new patch...

The gameplay itself is fine, they havent done a thing to the combat and dont need to.

It was the content that was really lacking, and that has been what they have been constantly updating, as well as class balancings.

So updates are bad now?

I say, these updates cant come fast enough, cant wait for leveling guilds.

Ya I think the point is most people concur the game is lame today and has always been lame but "The next patch will Fix everything!".  Most players seem to be subscribed in hopes a new patch will fix the game rather than the game itself. It is sad since release most player have put their hopes into these new patches and keep getting disappointed.

In other MMOs the game was great and the patches were just a bonus.

The major thing is after a year of patches a lot of people came back and retried the game and the game wasn't good enough for them to resubscribe so have fun waiting for the next big patch.

I don't see why so many people are against AoC. I personally think it's one of the greatest MMO's I've played. It runs perfect on full settings and looks great. PVP is awesome. Detailed worlds are amazing. The mammoth makes my sub go BOOM! Which is fun to play around with (shakes the whole house). What can I say, I like hack-n-slash games, good graphics, and an in depth story-line. What else is there to look for? I 've like AoC since it was released, but I'm one of few sadly...

The soundtrack is also AMAZING by the way.

And Tyranny has good activity. Its the server I'm on.

(the books are good. I just started my first one in the AoC series. Interesting reading about the places I have "walked" around in before hahaha. Decided to give it a try cuz the book was on sale for $3.99 :P)

I don't think is that bad pop. Sure it's a lot  of hate over internet.

But everytime I login all servers are on medium. That is not 100% right maybe...

I don't know how the US servers are but the EU ones I been playing around with are great.

Crom, Fury and Aquilonia.

Never alone, in the morning or late at night.

So that AoC will end up with only 3 servers sounds a bit wierd.

Maybe with the new expansion asian players will join and booom AoC have millions of subs like the "mighty" ugly cartoon game WoW!

Ya all servers are set to medium by default, I think it is dishonest as what is the point of even having them if they straight up lie to the players. It is dishonest and I think AA should bring it up to them as it is confusing new players along with the head developer stating "server populations are fine."  This is a MMO putting days into a charecter just to get stuck on some empty server is not good, it is even worse when the reason you are there is because Funcom lied to you twice.

The asians will be on seperate servers, Funcom sold the rights so Funcom won't make a penny.  However, this game would be lucky to keep 5 asians if they got 2 billion to try a free trial as this game lacks content and it is probably to simple combat wise for them.

I would recommend a quick browse of the official forums. From the outside looking in it looks to me like Cimmeria and Tyranny are the two most active servers and he other two could/should be merged into either each other or into Tyranny.
