Well, if you didn't like all these games it wouldn't hurt to try DF (or MO for that matter).

While MMOs cost some money to get I don't see the harm in trying as many as possible. I think it's kinda sucks that DF don't have a free trial of course but if you think the game sounds interesting and don't have any other you like just now I don't see any reason why you shouldn't try it.

And you shouldn't really care what we thinks of the game, it doesn't really matter. The only thing that matter is what you think of it.

I don't play it myself but that is not a reason why you shouldn't try it. And you lkinda makes this whole thread to sound like some popularity contest or something where fans and people who don't like it brings in arguments when the only thing that matters is what you like.

I listen to weird music you never heard, do I care if anyone else likes it? Not a friggin bit. Still some people seems to do, I read about more than one player here quiting a game he/she liked because it got flamed in a forum. Everone need to learn to live their own lifes. I could tell you the points I like in a MMO but it wouldn't help you a bit.

Providing you read my first post, the threads original purpose was to get testimony. I wanted to know what the average player did during an average day. One poster was kind enough to answer that for me.

Without reading the entire thread:

A lot of the notoriety is from people that don't understand what FFA pvp WITH LOOT really means.

That said, An average day (for me) in a small group/solo pvp guild:

Log on
Get gear on
Look and see if any friends/guild mates are online and already doing something
Ride around and look for good fights
Take loot and craft with it, if able

When I was in a guild that was in a large alliance and owned a town, I would:
Log On
See if theres any guild events
Look for friends (as long as they werent enemies of the guild)
Gather materials to help build our guild city, or promote the guild crafters
Pvp to defend the town, or lead raids on other towns

- AOC - Input lag, heavy instancing, sluggish animation ridden combat

- WoW - Gear Treadmil endgame, lack of enjoyable replayability

- WAR - ... Next

- LOTRO - Ridiculously slow and unresponsive combat

- Everquest II - No.

- Aion - Poorly executed derivative piece of garbage.

- Runes of Magic - Cheap version of WoW with a cash shop. Goodie.

Instead of simply asking "Hay guyz should I pa-lay?" I'll ask something a bit different. What do you do in this game? After you learn how to play and do your starter quests(?), what is an average day for a guilded and/or solo darkfall player?

Bonus Question - I downloaded the darkfall client a LONG time ago, back when the game was about to be released. Can Install / patch this client for use on the US servers?

I run around with friends looking for targets to kill.  Targets include players or NPC's.  Some players play the game to craft for their guild.  The guild gives them all the materials they need and protection, they make the best gear in the game.  I did starter quests to get early cash and bags (yes, bags).  I still am trying to do the title quests, that give a minor stat bonus, but I am to involved with hunting targets to do so, most of the time.  Granted, if I can't find a group to go out with, I will harvest wood/ore/whatever while watching Hulu.  Average day of a guild - politics, zone control (if your that good), city building, gathering, crafting, hunting targets, trying to make people attack you or siege you, and doing that to other clans.  Solo does not work well in the game, because for every 1 person hunting, there is a group hunting you.  You could, however, get a group of friends and make a "merc" guild, for hire.

US servers and EU servers are seperate markets.  They couldn't find a publisher (like they had for EU) to do the North American market so they self published with help.

Edit: Posting the above was most likely a waste of time, seeing how big this thread is.

Maybe you just don't like MMOs.  There are some really good games on your list, and if you hate all of them, you should probably quit wasting your money on a genre of games you simply don't enjoy.  I hear there are some really good first person shooters out there.

What good games would that be? WoW and AoC are probably the only games on that list that aren't clones. Each game on that list lacks meaningful game play and expereience. What the person is realizing that grinding gear and levels to do it all over again at end game is just borning. He/she should start looking into Sandbox games. A lot of them are coming out, and more themepark games are taking sandbox approch to guild realtions.

I play like a treasure hunter.  I usually make sure I have harvested enough steedgrass so I have a good amount of mounts, and I go out hunting treasure chests.  After a lot of hours I hit the jack pot and got a house deed.  I sold it and bought a cottage deed for much cheaper, and then I explored for days.  I found the perfect village on a secluded island with no other tenants and built my cottage.

I met a really good friend who I added as a tenant and together we harvest the materials on the island daily.  I am trying to raise my archery, greatsword, 1h sword, cooking, bowyering, and alchemy skills.  A lot of nights I get together with my friend and we go duo tough spawns for rare enchanting mats to make elemental weapons and armor sets.  I joined a young clan that is working towards acquiring a city so we go out often and capture villages to increase the clan income.  It is mostly an anti pk clan with humans, elves, and dwarves which is a nice break from all the zerg clans which take all races.  It is a really cool clan because they care if a member is in trouble and we gather together to fight off pk's often.

Honestly i'm so busy when i log in I don't ever have enough time to do everything I want.  Usually though I log in, harvest some nods on my secluded Island, hunt some mobs for materials and skill ups, and then go out treasure hunting if the clan i'm in isn't doing something like going golem hunting and mining to raise stone for the city.  Sometimes I just jump in my raft off the dock in my village, and go out to sea on long fishing trips.  I love this game through it's faults and it is getting much better than it was in beta or at launch.

We are starting now to kill strong mobs for neithal keys which allow you to open neithal chests which have a chance to contain an Astrolabe which is a very rare material used in crafting ships.  We want to make some strong ships because the city we are acquiring has a harbor, the village I live in has a nice little dock, and there is an upcoming naval expansion.

We give ourselves quests for things to do like acquire X mats to make elemental weapons, or harvest X to build a city, or hunt for keys, or chests, or raise certain skills.  I can't wait until the next chance I get to go out treasure hunting, and look forward to building up our city with some really cool people.  Not everyone is a dick, and I have gone many nights playing without being ganked.  There are some of us that fight off reds, don't kill people in the wilderness just because we can, and don't cheat or exploit.  There are a lot of cool and honest people, but you will only experience the company you surround yourself with.

Again I love this game.
