Sigh.
My points so far:
1) People are ALLOWED TO HAVE THEIR OPINIONS 2) However, some are complaining WITHOUT ANY KNOWLEDGE OF THE GAME WHATSOEVER 3) and others are hating on ArenaNet WITHOUT ANY SPECIFIC REASON
Every single one of your posts has accused me of saying that people are not allowed to have their opinions, when I have stated that fact THREE times very clearly so that you would grasp it. Alas, I expected too much. NOWHERE in my original post did I say people are not allowed to complain.
What I did acknowledge was that: they ARE complaining, many of the complaints are utterly baseless and that considering ArenaNet have run Guild Wars very well - regardless of whether or not people like it - they deserve far more credit that many are giving them in comparison to other MMO companies I mentioned as examples. In other words - the people in question would do well to research a game before cutting their noses off to spite their faces. Where did I state "You, SnarlingWolf, may not have an opinion and if you do it is wrong?" That's right - nowhere.
You're harping on about one vague thing after another that has added absolutely nothing to the thread and has instead resulted in numerous people trying to get the message across to you. Unfortunately it seems like a lost cause. In one final effort to try to get you to fathom the obvious intention behind the thread, I leave you with this: its existence is to acknowledge the issues and encourage people to give the game and ArenaNet a chance, not to simply blindly hate on it.
If the concept still escapes you then that is sad. I'm glad you're the only one who has struggled to grasp it so far. |

This is the saddest thing about internet gaming. Even now people are going into the beta of Aion and saying "WoW is better" "WoW never had this many problems upon release" (sorry WoW fans, just using it as an example cause it is most common), and I expect to see the same in GW2. Hell, I am seeing it still now in GW. The problem isnt that they are uninformed, it is that they dont want to be informed in the first place and take pleasure in griefing and trolling. Also, a lot of it is based around personal opinion, and a lot of people are going to say the game they play and love is the best. Unfortunately, besides finding their IP, going to their house and either keeping them locked up or killing them, there is no way you are going to stop them. Actually, best thing to do is just to ignore them, since replying to them only fuels them.
Personally, I am not interested in WoW, but I wont bash it. Likewise, I love Guild Wars, but I wont go around saying "ZOMG! THIS IS TEH BEST GAME EVA! PLAY OR DIE!" Now if only others could exercise restraint... |

Originally posted by Lydon I read every post in this thread, and observed your discussion with Snarl...... And all I can think to ask is, why do you care? Seriously, who cares about the sites hype pages, can't recall the last time I visited them, and even more importantly is why would I care what some uniformed person wrote about the game. (such as the comment about instances). I don't own stock in Arenanet, betting you don't either, so again, who cares if anyone besmirches their good name? Its no skin off my back if 10K trolls slam Arenanet, they are big boys and can take care of themselves I'm sure. (by releasing a great GW2 ) I certainly see no point to make a thread like you chose to do. I guess if it was to get attention and get a bunch of atta boys from your fellow fans, then you succeeded in your goal. If it was to convince trolls to not be trolls, doubtful you changed any opinions. I suppose you may have written it because you enjoy the discussion, but then again, that's why trolls and flarmers create their threads (or slam yours) because they enjoy it. There's a lot of things to be concerned about when it comes to the creation of a new game, but the opinions of the ill-informed are best ignored and not commented on. If you do anything else but ignore them, they've achieved their goals. Maybe its for the best you cannot reply to the hype page, it would just result in flame wars and serve no purpose.

In regards to the OP I have betaed a lot of MMOs. And I agree with you almost 100%. ArenaNet does an excellent job of providing a good quality well built product. I know a lot of the guild members I play with have rule, "Don't play an MMO till its been out at least 2 years, except for an ArenaNet product." http://twitter.com/Jamion |

Originally posted by Kyleran I started the discussion in order to challenge the views of these so-called "trolls." A misinformed poster is not necessarily a troll, and assuming such would be wrong. The MMO community has not been reduced to fanboys and trolls, though it may seem that way at times.
I, for one, still believe that people are capable of discussion without the need to mindlessly flame. It is those like-minded people that I am targeting. Add to that the fact that basically 4 times the number of people who are browsing these forums at the moment are guests and not members, and there's a possibility that someone may see things from my perspective, do some research into the game and end up receiving a lot of enjoyment from it.
It's not about being right and receiving praise from other fans or some other personal gain, it's about hopefully growing the community by being constructive and attempting to tackle a problem instead of simply sitting back and saying "that's life, too bad." Why do I care? Because anything that takes up or will take up a large amount of time in my life is worthy of of my care.
Hopefully that answers your question. |

yeah I agree 100%. Ive been reading the topic of people truly acting like they have already played the game. I honestly believe that Guild Wars 2 will be the mmorpg to rule all mmorpgs. |

I don't normally post about this kind of thing, since I usually just ignore the issue - because it really isn't one. Being an old fart gamer, means I have been around a bit, this is nothing new at all, in fact the younger you are the more likely you are to a) troll b) see trolling as a problem. Simple fact is, that trolls are scared that "their" pass time is under threat, usually its because a guild member or two has left them and their reaction is to attack the game those people have gone to, or threatened to go to. Or its just that they want to be in the cool crowd, but don't want to leave what they know. Its not unique to MMO gaming, but MMO gaming does seem to lend itself to this kind of behavior. The point is this, WOW lends itself to a young player base, and also has often been the first MMO some of these people have ever played, so the level of fear for a WOW player is higher than in most. I too saw a lot of silly trolling during the Open beta of AION recently, usually its mixed with some racism which is useful since you can then report them for that and they loose the right to play. So chill, don't worry about the silly trollers, they will move on and troll something else, and then they will grow up and go away :-)

As I said, I was only using WoW as an example, but I have seen it come from all sides. But yeah, half the time it is cause they want to be seen as being cool, the other half due to the it being 'cause they can' Which is cool by me, cause while they are pissing in the corner I am actually off having fun in whatever game I am playing |

yea i agree that a blind hate for no reason (or a stupid reason) is very silly.. Personally i played guild wars in beta and bought the game, though i didn't play it more than a month after i bought it. i know alot of people still like it and i have no problem with it... I am not a person without hate for certain mmos developers though.. I am a Ex swg vet and as you all properly know, there are alot of swg vets that are rather upset with SOE, but i think we got a more legitimate reason, cause we had played a game for years, had outstanding subscriptions and many preorderd an expansion, and then they suddenly changed the entire game mechanics, even dough there was a massive uproar from the community.
