...you get to fly only in special areas? WTF
|
|

Yeah, I found that to be a huge disappointment. I remember doing the quests around Altgard Fortress, and then getting sent to the forest to the west for more quests, only to find that I was completely shut off from being able to fly. Seemed rather arbitrary, and it also seemed lame.

How did you not know this? Have you not read anything about the game? BTW the abyss is where you will be spending most of your game time. Abyss = Full Fly Zone. lvl 25+ |

lol people are surprised at information that's been going around for the past 6 months. I also love the people that expect to have leveled through the game in 2 or 3 days. Go play champions online you can hit 40 in 2 days. http://www.excelion-legion.com/ |

I have read little about the game, hope you can forgive me for that??? So it's like WOW where you can fly in Northrend but not in the old continents... great. It's such a pity not being able to fly everywhere! I think spending stamina when flying and having only 1 minute is great but FFS lets us fly everywhere! Of course I bet that at high level the flight time will be like one hour? amaright? |

Anyway, I have no idea why you can't fly anywhere in the game, especially since flight is supposed to be a main selling point for this game. No mounts either, so teleports/flight paths are going to be pretty much necessary for the most time effecient travel routes. |

You can't flight everywhere but you can glide everywhere. Gliding will soon become an interesting mini game, controlling up drafts and so on. |

It's a disappointment, but it makes sense if you think about it, OP. I mean if you could fly everywhere, you could pass every single mob on your way and only kill the ones needed, or if it's a courier type quest, you could fly over the mobs and not kill a single one. This would be stupid, render the game even easier, not to mention needing soooo much more quests to level without mob grinding, thus we would need a plethora of quests, and a lot of the mobs in the game world would be near useless. It's annoying but it makes sense and kinda works. Ah well, thank God you can glide! |

Didn't know that, will try it. I noticed the draft sometimes, glad it's in the game.. although doesn't seem to do much. |

Despite the fact that everyone has their own opinions, so far since I've joined this site I've come to realize how the so-called "whiny WoW-community" isn't confined to just WoW, but to every damn MMO on earth. Everytime I read one of these posts I get sick and have to remind myself how thankful I am to not have much time to play games with these whiny little adolesents that call themselves "adults".
As for my actual valuable post, since only two of you people contributed to this out of the 9 posts. I think it's different, the constricted flying zones. I see why people would have their negative opinions on it, but like altairzq said, it's similar to WoW and how you can fly in Outland and Northrend but not in the first continent; that's to change with the third expansion however with the re-vamping of the first continents to allow flying there. I personally would've liked the ability to fly anywhere and for a lot longer than one minute in Aion. I do think there are ways to increase the time, if anything there are potions that'll replenish your time, although not all that much and with the outrageous cooldown it almost doesn't matter in most situations. If you are into PvP it seems you'll be playing in the Abyss most of the time, which has no flying restrictions. Despite not being able to fly everywhere, like Xasapis said, you can at least glide everywhere.

Anyways, once you're level 10, as someone said already you can glide, once you get good at it you can cover pretty long distances. I've ran out of flight time just gliding many times. Use W to gain speed and S to gain height while doing so, and go to more open spaces to get air currents. |

Playing a console or FPS where there are no levels that might put you to "sleep" might be more your speed. They can adjust classes all day but they can't help the issue between the keyboard and the chair. |

Flying sounds cool and all, but it's basically just like swimming in any other game.
Still fun to glide though :) 1999 - 2008 Ultima Online veteran and I enjoy World of Warcraft! I have been to the end of the universe and back only to find that the beginning and end are the same. |

I disagree. I can 7x GM in UO (which takes more time than any other game on the market) and I can get 70 in WoW fine. Aion, I just can't seem to make it past 15, I just run out of steam before I get there. 1999 - 2008 Ultima Online veteran and I enjoy World of Warcraft! Originally posted by altairzq Actually, not quite. In WoW, you can start flying around when, level 60? And then only if you have 600 gold to pay for it. So, if you can fly starting at level 60 out of a total of 80, that means you'll have the flight ability for25% of your total levels. But then, you can only fly in the level 60-80 pve zones, and not at all in pvp or even in pve battles. When I played WoW (I quit last month), once I reached the level cap, I spent 99% of my time in pvp (arenas and BGs) because I wasn't interested in raiding or doing other pve instances (where flight might be useful). So in reality for me, I used flight 1% of the time while in WoW for the "low" cost of 600 gold, and only when I went to the level 60-80 zones. Contrast that to Aion, where after level 25 you will be using flight much of the time in the Abyss. So, even discounting that you get your initial wings at level 10 (at no cost) and can use them in certain areas under level 25, you'll find your wings useful for at least 50% of your total levels in Aion vs the 25% of the pve-only content for WoW. In addition, you'll be able to use your wings in Aion's pvp, which further skews the time you spend in flight in Aion's favor. That's because you are burned out on leveling and MMOs in general. It might be a good time to take a break and step away from the genre. I find leveling a delight in Aion, especially through reading the quest text and folllowing the storyline. Why would I play a pathetic themepark MMO when I could enjoy a masterpiece like Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age? |

Lol. GTFO Aion... i know wow give you a ground mount at level 20 now for 2 copper and you can get a pvp mount in an afternoon when previously it would have taken 3 months of 6 -12 hours pvp for 3 months but ......

If we throw out the extremists on both ends, I think the middle ground is that Aion is pretty standard MMO fare, with maybe a little extra polish at its start than other, recent MMOs, as well as having a few unique features of its own that adds a little differentiation. Well Aion really is a great game. Its not amazing nor is it anywhere near groundbreaking but it did something that hasn't happened for a while. They made a game thats fun to play and is pvp centered. Its already a hit in the east and after they fine tune it for western audiences it'll be a fairly large game. To make things short for anyone who's not used to this site yet let me just say this. DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING PEOPLE SAY HERE SERIOUSLY! These forums are probably the worst besides 4chan when it comes to information about games. Everytime a new game comes out theres always the idiots who say "OMFG ITS REVOLUTIONARY" or the punk "THIS GAME SUCKS AFTER PLAYING IT 2 SECONDS!". |
|

If you can't fly in almost every area of the game then it is a complete waste. Flight is timed in pve so there should be no other restrictions. |
|

I prefer gliding to flying myself but I can agree that at first I was a bit turned off by the fact that I couldn't fly everywhere. Objectiveness is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream. |

The joke is on you troll. You assume the Abyss = 1 zone. The Abyss isn't the only place to be at end game, it's simply where most will WANT to be, because it's the FLAGSHIP FEATURE of the game. Some will avoid the abyss entirely and simply PvE and raid. |
