Be a leader not a follower, and play what you enjoy. Don''t worry about what others are doing.

This game sounds very intriguing, but am I reading this correctly where they are requiring people to pre-pay for a currently un-finished game just so you can help them with the Beta testing?

Isn't it enough that people are willing to help Beta test your product?

In this age of companies that come, promise the world, and fall to their knees all before their product hits the shelves, how many people are Okay with paying to Beta test an MMO now-a-days?

I, for one, am having trouble getting myself to step through the account creation on their website, but maybe it's just me, :/

You're paying for the game, they're ALLOWING you to beta-test.

Yer not the only one and yes it's a pay to play beta test.  They charge you full price up front to pre-order and that is the only way to get into the beta.

Star Vault lied about everything and they are trying to use the money they got from pre-orders to cover it up as quickly as possible.  They even try to deny refunds to people who can't access their store accounts but have been charged in full for the game without confrimation.

It's a massive flop.  Don't buy into it.

Wait till the NDA drops around late Nov early Dec and see what all the buzz is about

I suggest people to learn themself what this game is about, instead of listening on people here.

Because the game isn´t finished yet ... if you test it now there will be bugs and things that are not included in the beta yet. If you can´t deal with that you should probably instead wait until it´s more ready to see if the game is something for you. But it´s imo a very promissing MMO.

Complaining about that you have to pay for joining the beta ... well you pay for the game, the beta key is just included in the price together with free expansions. If you think that it still feels unfair, .... then ... just wait for the release and make up your mind then.

No, they have not lied abit. They have been very open with everything. They are very active on the forum and write posts every day. The only one lying is you. Massive flop? Not really.

yes, they seemed quite open until the pay to play beta started

almost a complete news blackout since then

the game seems to be in a complete mess but devs have stated they are on schedule to release this year - pity

the game is in the condition we were told it was in before pre-ordering.

i take a few weeks off between my weeks of beta testing so that i can see the big differences in the game as each new client is able to be tested.

its not a sham, wait for nda to drop if you are tight on cash.

yesterdays closure of the thread containing concerns of the community as to the state of the game does not bode well either

Okay, I can't sit back and watch people conitinue to lie.  You are lying through your damn teeth and either you know it already or you are simply too damn lazy to actually do some research.

There has been no blackout.  There is a mortal online twitter page, use it.  There is a mortal online official forums page, use it.  There is a mortal online IRC channel, use it.  There is a youtube list of videos showing plenty of beta footage, use it.  Do you see the trend?  It's real damn easy to say that there has been a blackout if you are ignorant to the fact that there is an INTERNET where you can find all of this information.  Oh, by the way, try checking out the patch notes, which are conveniently posted on the 'download beta' section of the mortal online official website (use it).  They are posted for every single new client that is released.  There has been several, not one, several interviews as well as Q&A's on IRC.  There is a ton of information out there, you simply have to attempt to look for it.

I won't give details, but the game is not in a complete mess.  Things are very well controlled and if you read the PATCH NOTES, you will know that they have just introduced a simplified magic system as well as the introduction of vendors and currency to the game.  The only issue I have with SV is the fact that there is no real good way to report bugs.. and for some people, reporting bugs is impossible, barring sending an e-mail to starvailt directly.  Whch will get you nowhere, fast.

Stop talking from your behind.

I for one would not pay this price to play in beta, so do we get money back if we don't like it (no). Nice way to get your money for a game you don't know will ever be released.

you can certainly type but reading seems to another matter completely

again, since pay to play beta started..........

yes there is a beta irc if you paid to be in beta

patch notes if you paid to be in in beta or find the leaks which probably are an NDA violation

videos which are leaks from those that have paid to be in beta which are obviously NDA violations

when was the last newsletter?

the last news item on their own webpage was a copy paste of an apologetic letter from their money handlers

the only recent communication to the general community (those that did not pay so that they would have the cash to conduct their beta) was a statement that closed a thread stating that they were on schedule

there now, near blackout wouldn't you say?

Why do you ppl continuely bitch about pay to play beta, one it isn't a pay to play beta, only people that think that are people that the only reason they even consider ordering it is because they want nothing but the beta. Ok so for your dumbass it is pay to play beta because thats all you care about. If you don't want to pay that much than stfu and gtfo.

I do not dig the pay to play beta thing at all.  If I was going to buy the game, and as part of my purchase I could play a early beta (ala Aion) then that would be fine.  However there should be no fee associated with being involved with a Beta if someone is on the fence and may not end up buying the game.

NcSoft has perfected the paid for grindfest, and I am sad because of it :-(

yes there is a beta irc if you paid to be in beta(you can still join the general channel)

patch notes if you paid to be in in beta or find the leaks which probably are an NDA violation(you don't have to be in beta to look at them.  You can download the client or look at them, they are posted on the website)

videos which are leaks from those that have paid to be in beta which are obviously NDA violations(This is a form of communication and a small idea of what the game is like, is it not?)

when was the last newsletter?(A newsletter is redundant with all the information already out there)

the last news item on their own webpage was a copy paste of an apologetic letter from their money handlers

the only recent communication to the general community (those that did not pay so that they would have the cash to conduct their beta) was a statement that closed a thread stating that they were on schedule(They are)

They are in beta.  What kind of information are you looking for exactly?  They have made updates in one form or another after whenever they do anything in beta.  Even the smallest fix is communicated to the public.  Read patch notes.  Read Twitter.  There was a Q&A recently that gave very specific information on what they are implementing within the next week.  All of this information about MO is available for you to filter through.  I can't figure it out, what do you want?  Would it make you sleep at night if they posted on their news page?

Take it from me, things are going swimmingly, so to speak.  There are still several months in beta left and I see no reason why the game will not be playable come the holidays when it is scheduled to release.  In fact, their biggest problem is server and patcher performance, so that should tell you something.

Considering if I wasn't in beta, I'd have access to all of the information that I have now is proof that there hasn't been a blackout.  You're just lazy.

Its true, they are in a bit of financial trouble and offered pre-orders early in order for people to "invest" in the games devleopment (and perhaps calm investors who might have been questioning the project's soundness).

Beta testing was a perk tossed to those willing to shell out the money, and when you think about it, by giving the testers a vested interest they are likely to get a far better quality of testing and bug reporting than the average person looking for a free trial.

Don't begrudge those who chose to particiapate, they are helping build a game they really want to see succeed and prosper, nothing wrong with that at all.

If OP doesn't want to be part of the process, opt out like I did, and wait for the finished release.

More than half the people that beta test in todays world only test to play the game. They aren't actualy in-game submitting bug reports, they are the ones asking are we going to be able to keep our characters after beta is over?  So i would say no it isnt enough for people to want to "Beta Test" their product.

if WoW was your first MMO i don't feel you have an opinion here.

I agree with you.

I myself have already payed for the digital download version. Why? Because I will most certainly play this on the release day. Also because this is the only mmo I've ever thought worthy of pre-ordering and this I say without having a clue what the game is like, I pay for the concept and really want to see more of this.

In my eyes point and click games like (insert 3 letters) are as modern and fresh as CRT-monitors.

You mean the thread that went on for 5 days and 13 pages and is still viewable on their forums?

http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/22964-anyone-else-getting-really-nervous-about-mo.html

The one with possibly libelous accusations?

"However, since that is not the case, I feel sorry for anyone who paid to beta test a stripped out ur3 engine, utilizing an old pirated copy of the speedtree sdk."

The one with multiple posts from forum moderators and developers before  it got shut down?

The one that had degenerated to a semantic argument over th meaning of  "alpha" vs "beta" by the end?

Obviously, it was an attempt to squelch constructive, meaningful dialogue.

The game is barely in an alpha stage at the moment and tons of people have already canceled their pre-orders. It's a train wreck.

Exactly. Most of those who canceled have gone to this great game http://www.junebud.com/. Its free beta!

lawl. But I am not going to pay money to support a game that I can't play until I pay full price for the game. How should I know if I like the game? Reading about a game and playing a game can make you have very different opinions on it. I'll wait until it is released and then try a free trial if they offer one. Then I will support MO if I like it :)

SV lied about... NOTHING.

They clearly stated what the beta would be about, unlike some "other" company which released a similar product recently they never lied about imaginary features that wouldn't be in the game either.

- SV clearly told every potential buyer on the first page of the account system what the beta is all about.

- All the patch notes are public and can be read by everyone.

Unlike the darkfail devs, SV are honest. It's not their fault if some kiddies who have reading comprehension problems still bought the game thinking the beta would be a fully playable game.

Everything has been said about the beta. If you aren't ready to pay for it, hell, act like a damned adult, and DON'T DO IT. But don't whine because the beta is exactly what SV said it would be, and not a finished product where you can pew pew for free without monthly fee.

*sigh*

Still waiting for the real UO successor...
