How deep or complex is the crafting system in this game?

Is it possible to just be a full time crafter and have that be viable?

It's standard, nothing too involved. The focus of the game is PvP, so, not much point in being a full time crafter (except for your guild). There isn't any commerce outside guilds. There isn't any centralized commerce interface, too.

I love pvp, but I can't play in first person which sounds like it is used here a lot? 

I rather liked the idea of being a more mercenary crafter who dealt with anyone who had the gold, hehe.  Sounds like that won't work, ah well.

Yes, your idea won't work in the game, ATM. Maybe when and if they boost the in-game economy.

Most combat happens first person. If you don't like this perspective, you won't be very comfortable in this game.

Whats so bad about crafting exclusively for your clan ? They help you with the ressources you getting higher skill , you provide gear ..any bad in it ?

The are enough solo games (and many wannabe and wannabecalled MMORPG's)  you can get rich for yourself , there is joy and satisfaction in supporting others , you know ?

Never said anything was bad about just supporting a clan at all.

That would be more than fine to me also :)

Doesn't sound like this has that deep of crafting though.  Also I really can't play in first person so unless there is some option for staying in 3rd person all the time, ouch.

Sure its a sandbox, you can be the solocrafter who sells for the highest bid. But because its a sandbox others working together will outrun you in success. And there is no solo themepark  in game mechanic helping you bypass the sandbox character and become more succesfull then the efforts of a group, sorry.

How can you sell to the highest bidder in DFO? There isn't even an economy interface. You mean shouting in the Craft Channel? In a full-loot, open PVP game?

Just because there isn't an instant-buy auction system doesn't mean theres no economy. The trade channel is booming and crafters are always trading supplies and making gear for PvPers. There's a HUGE craft population of players who solely craft. Trading requires actual human interaction rather than clicking a list off an auction UI element. Plus the next expansion is rumored to add more craft features like player shops/vendors and caravans for shipping goods. I'm just astonished at the ignorance floating around this forum labeling DF as shallow FPS. It's all completely false.

LOL please OP just try DF it has the best crafting system I have played since SWG.  Mabey it takes less components and it dose not have experimintation but hell just gathering your resources if like a mini adventure everday.    DF players do not want any type of Auction house all AH's do is let farmers rule the market.  DF economy is great, nothing costs you an arm and a leg but good crafters make plenty of money. 

Here is an example of what my Clans crafters do for our guild and trust me this keeps them very busy and this is just one small thing in the crafting scope in the game. 

 

 

I will be selling battle bags as a service to our guildmates. Battle bags are an integral part of any battle preparation - the idea being, grab 'em and go off to your engagement instead of spending precious minutes rooting through your bank to find all of your armor/pots/food.

The bags we sell are not meant to be your end-all bag. They are something to build upon.

The base cost of our bags is 56g, plus whatever more is needed for your weapon/armor selection. Some things in the bags have been withdrawn from the guild bank - this means that money you pay for those items will be donated back to the guild. There may come a time when the guild bank runs out of a particular item, which means costs will change as Vessa and I will have to make these items ourselves.

Below is the cost structure associated with the battle bags. ALL BAGS ARE MADE AT COST FOR US TO MAKE, and in some cases at a loss considering we do not charge for all ingredients and also have failures. As I said, this is something we are doing as a service to the guild. If you would like to contribute, by all means, we are very welcome to donations. We appreciate it greatly.

BASE BAG COST
10 Food = 20g (donated to guild bank)
5 Moderate Stamina Potions = 10g for bottles
5 Moderate Health Potions = 10g for bottles
1 Sack = 16g

ARMOR COST: (select one)
--All gold costs for armor is either required gold to craft or for leather.

1) Banded Set + Leather Gloves/Boots
36 Ingots, 120g

2) Bone Set + Leather Gloves/Boots
80 bone, 150g - OR - 310g if you do not have bone

3) Studded + Leather Gloves/Boots + Hood
8 ingots, 110g

OPTIONAL ADD-ONS
--You can select none, one, two or all three of the following. You cannot select more than one of the same add-on.

1) Archery
100 Arrows = 5 ingots, 35g for wood - OR - 100g (donated to guild bank)
1 Bow = 20g (donated to guild bank)

2) Magic
1 Staff = 5g
5 Moderate Mana Potions = 10g for bottles (donated to guild bank)

3) Melee (select one or two weapons)
1H Axe: 20g (donated to guild bank)
2H Axe: 30g (donated to guild bank)
1H Sword: 20g (donated guild bank)
2H Sword: 5 ingots, 7g
1H Club: 1 ingot, 21g
2H Club: 30g (donated to guild bank)
Knives: 30g (donated to guild bank)
Polearm: 30g

If you select a one-handed weapon, you will also get a shield free of charge (one per bag).

 DISCOUNTS:
You can receive a gold discount off of your battle bag price through trading mats that we need to make the battle bags!

We accept trades at the gold value of:
1 sack of ANY color: 16g (max 2 sacks)
1 ingot = 10g
1 wood = 7g
1 bone = 2g
1 leather = 4g
1 archangelica = 0.5g
1 hellbore = 0.5g
1 snakeweed = 0.5g
1 baneberry = 0.5g

With the exception of the sacks, there is no limit on the amount of mats you can trade in.

If you have raw ore or timber, we can process that for you, but can only give discount based on the amount of wood or ingots that were successful crafts.

Let's just say you should read my posting history with a little more attention

I do know what I'm talking about, and I'm entitled to an opinion. Most crafters in this game are guild crafters. Do you dispute that? Do you dispute that the core mechanics of the game at this moment make the life of an independent crafter exceedingly difficult (and dangerous)?

DFO IS a shallow FPS game at the moment. It is not in the FPS shelf because it has a persistent world and character progression.

All clans are selfsufficent and as such there isn't an open market for crafted items. At least this is the case on the EU server and thats what these replies are mainly based on.

The only other game that may have a good crafting syste, MO, is likely to suffer from the same closed economy problems as DFO has.

 

If guilds weren't self sufficent, then there would be a market for most crafted items. As it stands, only enchanting has an open market.

 

PS: Everyone who complains about being a merchant in a FFA Full loot PvP game being not viable has no idea what they are talking about. DFO has defacto safes zones just like UO, EvE, and MO (when it releases)

You really don't have a clue.  I believe strix is an ex-darkfall player and I want to say at one time as rabid as you.

 

Your 2nd paragraph is full of fail (opinion).   Maybe next time enlighten these forums with crafter info to get more people to join.  Some important things you could have said to back up your statements....

- Place where people peddle their wares

- How people peddle their wares

- What to craft ( gear only? )

- How you gather ( group/protection/etc )

- Specialize crafting?

- Talk about enchanting
