So far, StarVault (hearby SV) has had problems after problems, from websites crashing, to their preorder store site screwing up, billing screwing up, beta block status screwing up, the beta launch screwing up, the beta server being a mess (see non-nda twitter link for server related public posts: https://twitter.com/MortalBeta - and what the crap is this using twitter to communicate with your player base?!), their lack of beta forums and a beta irc channel that only 1/5th the player base can access?

This Post is fail. and the OP should know this IT DIDNT LAUNCH IT IS BETA.

DARKFALL Lied and released into a Paid beta.

MO had Pre orders and Beta access Early just out of Alpha beta.

You cant even compare  the two and if do your a  $%#% Idio-|-

You're right. MO is making Darkfall & Aventurine look like Blizzard with their dodginess.

That doesn't change the fact that it still looks horrible compared to games coming out in 2010.

'Also' if you don't care about gear or character development why don't you go play halo like all the other lazy western gamers that are taking the 'rpg' out of 'mmorpg'. Go jump up and down in those first person worlds =P

Here, you earned yourself a cookie! *hands the cookie*

Omg, I cant look at myself! So gear doesnt matter! ...... I dont know which games (MMO) you play, but when a MMO releases a outfit system most people work hard to hide they gear... and instead try to use unique looks.

Show off my gear? This is a minority mentality. The Ubber hardcore raiders.

Look at CoH and the new CO. You create your costume at level 1. You can change it at anytime. Gear? It changes your powers, not your looks. And people loves it!
Outfit system in Lotro -> major sucess! Just to give a example of a fantasy game.

You really think a game will fail because you cant look at your char behind? Really? Cause if you just want to show off, you know that the rest of the world will still see you in 3d right... with that gear you love so much, right?

Serious dude, what are you trying to say? That you cant play a game unless you can stare at your char gear so you can feel ubber?

If thats the case (OMG!), why dont you just move on... there are what... 300 MMO around to check out... why do you stay here on the one that you know you wont like anyway?

*another cookie*
Bye!

How many ppl here played oblivion in 1st person? I bet its about 90%. 3rd person mode is junk anyway and takes away from immersion.

Not to mention that the characters look crippled and completely "off" the world in 3PV, its just horrible.

I have tried playing <NDA-soon_to_be_released_in_open_beta_MMO> in 3rd person. I could not bare to play more than 2 minutes, after I managed to kill a freakin' goat. It simply takes the realism away. Like trying to play NASCAR from a fixed position 300m abobe the track instead from inside the car view.

Better to be crazy, provided you know what sane is...

Immersion in games isn't a matter of first or third person perspective - or the fact that you are able to see your cock when you look down your feet. Just think of games like Alone in the Dark 1 or Ouctast. Anyway, killing goats (and pretty much everything else) in Fallen Earth looks goofy both from a first and a third person perspective...

it's nothing special.  It will have a crap to moderate release, retain loyal subs for a good 6 months or so while they polish up the game and then the new wave of players with flood in and either 1. like the game and stabilise it at a decent playerbase (10-50k) or 2. dislike what they find and leave in droves reducing the playerbase to something healthy but not quite what some people want (5-10k).

I can tell you that MO is not going to be perfect.

But for me with all the interaction with the devs, the info they've shared and what I've seen come true I'd say that its going to be a pretty fun sandbox game, and that so far the devs seem to be keeping their promises.

Not quite. They lied about block B being abke to access the beta over a week ago and lots of B-group players still haven't been able to even log in. Block C is supposed to start soon too but looks doubtful, the server doesn't stay up for long. They're not even trying to keep the server up on the weekend. Doesn't look good.

Strange, looks like every actual beta I have ever been involved in for the last 2 decades.

Now if the only betas you are used to are the marketing hype betas that companies throw out for free then you would see this beta as something else. If you actually have experience with beta testing and the industry in general then you recognize that they are exactly where they should be.

Only thing concerning me is that they ARE where they should be. I just hope the CEO's father and friend's money holds out for them to finish the game enough to ship something reasonable and not another DnF.

Same as any game with a NDA 50/50. Though from what I have seen with all the early issues I say it looks bad for the first few months and games dont recover easily

100% garunteed vaporware.  Once the NDA comes down and people feel comfortable talking about it, we will all see why I can garunteee this game is vaporware.

Vanguard looks better.
Tabula Rasa was more fun.
Darkfall has better PvP.

The only thing this game has going for it is the fact that SV is funded by family members instead of real investors that demand results.  And even then how long before mommy and daddy decide to stop letting Hen and Mats piss away their money?

A game is only vaporware if its promised to come out and doesn't. You can not like the game, but don't misues terms please.

Right now, the game is bascially a UT3 mod. Once crafting, mounts, thivery,  housing and full local banking is added then it will be a RPG.

vanguard = cadaver
TR = yeah, was ... neverending take this and go there, cliche quest based auto shooter
DFo = ... better pvp than what ? Than AoC ? WAR ? Compare it to released game.

But yeah, green & slime'y internet cup goes to you.

The game is going no where.  A team of so few developers without a real source of income can't make a big MMO like this.  The guys working on APB made Crackdown before developing APB and they developed it without showing it to anyone for a very long time, only showing actually finished product.  They impressed EA enough to make them want to publish it.

Vogster Entertainment, makers of Crimecraft, made some silly Nintendo DS game that sold well also before actually going for their real project.  They got the support of THQ.

Star Vault on the other hand is a poorly run company that has basically no money.  Had they had money, then they wouldn't have needed to take preorders on beta, they said it themselves.  They are charging a mint for boxed versions of the game because they need money, and many supporters feel they need to buy stock or buy more than one copy in order to show their support for this game.  They aren't bad developers at all, they just lack assets.  Had Mortal Online had the resources Darkfall Online had, then I am sure this game would be much better than it will be on release, if thatever happens.

The only way this game is even getting released is if some big investor or company expresses interest in the game and says hey, here is some money, make me a game the way you guys originally wanted it.  They need millions of dollars to finish this.

RIght now its full of fail. DF was in better shape they at least had a beta. Twitter for communication is full of fail as Aion did this as well. I dont know what to think as I respect the dev team but come on.  At this point I wouldnt touch it with a 10 foot pole.
