UO player or not. Anyone here going to dive in and try the new expansion out? Honestly we haven't had a real new expansion since Mondains Legacy. 1999 - 2008 Ultima Online veteran and I enjoy World of Warcraft! I have been to the end of the universe and back only to find that the beginning and end are the same. |

You cannot buy a better fantasy sandbox game right now. Yes, I know it's old looking but as a retro gamer myself I find UO immersive. The additions to the game since I last played are just amazing and this new expansion has brought new life to the game. You guys have nothing to lose, DL the client and play the 14 day trial. Why would I play a pathetic themepark MMO when I could enjoy a masterpiece like Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Dragon Age? |

I played for four years, but I don't think I can do it anymore at this point. For one thing, the game has changed SO much. Last time I tried to get back into it, I was amazed at how completely different everything is. It doesn't even feel like the same game anymore in many ways. |

Does this expansion push the game play back to the origins of it. Where there wasn't red blue and grey, where the only safe area was in a town, where it truly was sandbox? If so sure I'll be there in a heartbeat, but otherwise no.
There is no point in playing UO if it's not what it original was. I can get a game where I can't actually do anything I want, and have actual quests and content while being told what I can and can't do, in a much newer package. It's not that all UO was good for was pking, but it was the dynamic that brought everything else together. It made going out to adventure exciting, it made different choices possible like defending the weak, stealing from the unsuspecting, or killing anyone you see. Without that it is an old game with no content that costs almost as much as all the other MMOs that have more to do, look better and are more immersive. |

Just glancing at the skills system, graphics, UI changes, targeting changes and the shear increase in size of the old world is truly amazing. Compare it to other sandbox games, while graphically inferior features wise this game is right up their with EvE, DF and Ryzom. Actually if we go buy skill system alone I would say it's only edged out by Eve in depth and complexity.

Changed my post, It makes no sense to derail this whole thread into a Old UO vs New UO debate. I'm just too excited to be going back to UO since the last time I played was in 2002 (on official servers). IN todays UO you can be what you what, do what you want to do at anytime. It's a great game and is open to alot more people these days than it used to be. And personally I think it's for the better. Can you now run the game at a higher res then 800x600?? Assassin's like to do it in the dark and from behind. |

The client can be set higher are you speaking of the actual game window? The UI can all be pulled out of the 800x600 window to fill in the space around. I have no idea if the game world window itself can be stretched I just came back myself.
I did see a higher rez setting though.

I reinstalled a few months back and there use to be a gem in the corner so you could strech the world window but it had been removed and after asking on the forums there was a problem with client crash that was related to changing the world window so they took that feature out. I was aking if that had been put back in cause playing a game on a 24" monitor in a window that only takes up like 1/4 of the screen sucks hehe. Assassin's like to do it in the dark and from behind. |

So would u say to play 3d or 2d with new expansion.. i was thinking to buy the game |
|

3d all the way. It's supported the most by EA and looks pretty good for the game. 1999 - 2008 Ultima Online veteran and I enjoy World of Warcraft! I have been to the end of the universe and back only to find that the beginning and end are the same. |

Not buying it, but maybe fool around on a friend's account? |

The expansion costs $29.99. For a new player it's 39.99 since you have to pay $10 for original client + previous expansions. That includes 30 days of game time.

Was thinking of trying the game, but from what I read on various forums, Mythic decided to stop supporting the kingdom reborn client in favor of what they call an "Enhanced client". Problem seems to be that this enhanced client seems to use older graphic tiles set, not the ones introduced with kingdom reborn (which are much nicer, imho). So my question : is this "Enhanced client" the only modern option for playing the game? Or is there a 3rd client (the one you are refering to as 3d client) that I am not aware of? Thanks guys, |

The SA cient is a 3d client it uses a similar artistic style so its more accepted by the older community. All in all, It's been getting rave reviews and many older gamers feel it's a step up from KR client. When you first log on the server list is sorted by population activity that second. I suggest logging on at your main play time and selecting the server at the top. Good luck and Happy hunting. Hopefully I can get some solid playtime in this weekend. As I get older I have less and less time to play these games. How dare RL get in the way of my MMOs!!!!! LOL! see you in game bud.
