The two papers had to issue apologies after printing a story found on the The Onion's website. Unaware that The Onion is not a legitimate news organization, The Daily Manab Zamin, reported that astronaut Neil Armstrong admitted that the Moon Landing in 1969 was faked. The story was later picked up by the New Nation as well. Neither paper bothered to check the source before running the story. I know that The Onion does an excellent job of spoofing the news, making ridiculous stories seem real. But it's pretty bad when you fool an actual news agency. What an embarrassment to have to tell your readers you got juked by an organization that parodies your profession. "If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking." ~ George S Patton |
