I have played and liked many Past MMos but my wife pretty much got started on WOW. 

We like wow ok, its just that after several years and several characters at teh top levels, it got boring as heck.

I need to find a game that she and I can both play and enjoy, but am unsure what it would be.  Here is what we liked about wow, perhaps you can point out a game with simmilar features that is not dieing a slow death as players leave.

Big world...It was nice to have such a large world to explore, it made the first few characters leveling experience interesting.

Mounts... It was nice to have a faster way to get around, and the added eye candy did not hurt.

Mostly PVE... we pretty much hate PvP and fopcus on PVE only.  I am just not interested in getting ganked by some 14 year old with no life :P  Really the RVR in old school DAOC ( I mean before the trials of atlantis even) was an Ideal PVP for me, I did not have to put up with trash talk, and I had the distinct option of participating in it if I wanted.

No turnbased fights.  Pretty boring to set up all the attacks then set back and watch them execute.

Different characters/classes    We liked that we could be a big tauren, or a little gnome.  We liked the various classes that were in thier own ways unique.

Customization...This is mostly for me, I like being able to have my character not look like everyone else.

Decent graphics...Does not have to be cutting edge, but high quality.

I believe Lord of the Rings Online meets all your requirements.  And, there are many married couples who play together.  You will also find the most mature and helpful player base of any of the large MMOs.

Lotro, Vanguard or maybe Eq2.

All have a heavy pve focus,nice classes with big worlds to explore.

everquest 2 is your game ,lush npc litary speak to you follow you with their eyes when you walk by it funny

one thing tho replace graphic setting with your ghraphic card setting (in the card set-up should say something like that

aside from that once your set-up you ll see very nice graphic.

i love eq2 .

eq1 is nice in a wow style (wow idea probably came from this game)

but eq1 is hard mode,no hand holding in eq1 

the most basic thing you take for granted in wow is in eq1 but you got to use your brain a lot 

i suggest eq2 very polished ingame game chat not the same way wow works 

As others have said lotro may be for you but may not but since you are bored with wow and it doesn't really offer you anything different and also has almost zero character customization.

Also you could take a look at ryzom

and if you thought the world in wow was big something like anarchy online will blow your mind

essentially it comes down to : do you want more of the same thing or something different to try?

Meh you may also want to check into Perfect World. It reminded me of a waterdowned WoW. The PvE portion of it isn't that great since its a F2P game, but its much better then others I've played. It has instances and dungeons and it has a FvF pvp type of thing every weekend if your in a main guild. PW has 3 races and 6 classes( Human, Elfs, and Werebeasts) with a new race and 2 new classes coming out sometime this winter.

One thing that people were hyped about PW was the customization. Of all the games I've played it has the best character creation system I've seen.

One thing that might disapoint you is that its CS heavy, but I guess you don't care that much seeming you played WoW.

Players are starting to leave though mostly because of Aion and some of the updates and sales aren't going good with the economy.

Since you and your wife play you might enjoy the fact that they have a marriage system in-game.

Its a fun game, but can get tiresom

 since your a couple that are ex-WoW players, i don't recommend EQ2 and ryzom.  Lord of the rings online might be something for you, so is warhammer online, except warhammer focusses a bit more on pvp, its usually instanced pvp :).   Dungeons and dragons online also is a great game with many options.  in a list for you i'd put   on 1# LOTRO  2# D&DO   3#warhammer online.

when  SW:the old republic launches its something for you too,  grouped dialogued quests, you can do practically everything together if you like to :P but the old republic ain't here yet hehe.

If you are looking for a new experience then I think FFXI would probably fit your needs. 

EQ2 can be fun, not too hard to learn and 24 classes to choose from, I advise AB server wise.

As has been mentioned, EQ2 & EQ1. If PvE is your style, and you like a challenge, EQ1 Would be the way to go, however hold your hats on, cause the graphics sure wont be cutting edge.

Another option, which I enjoyed for a while when it first came out was Vanguard, however I would catch up on the forums as when it first came out it was a little buggy to say the least.

Well me and hubby met in SWG and have played WOW, EQ2, LOTRO, and many others.  I would say EQ2 and LOTRO are good polished choices.  Currently we're playing Champions Online, don't know for how long but we are having a ball and it's a very nice break from dwarves and elves.  LOTRO has a new mini expansion coming out and has been revamping all the areas.  I believe EQ2 has done or is doing the same.  Someone else mentioned Vanguard - not as polished as the rest but it can be fun (hard to jump in and out of).

I'd definately say Champions Online would be the PvE choice and if your wife handles PvP well then AION has game play is said to have similarities to WoW so it should be easy to adapt but newer graphics and newer things to experience and learn.

EQ2 is very pretty and mature with plenty of choices and places to explore.   Vanguard is quite fun with new stuff such as Diplomacy and a hugh world that includes boats.  I believe either would fit your desires.

Personally, I am trying to get my daughter to convert from COH to CO. I am also enjoying it and would love to create characters with a similar theme and explore.

CO seems perfect. If you are asking for something else, what about Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay? I've always wanted a Blade Mistress/Archmage combo to wheel through the hordes of chaos.

You think WOW is dying a slow death?

No there are still Plenty of folks on WOW, I was refering to the new games I was being pointed at on some other forums like AOC for instance that has had severe attrition since it started.

I would hate to be pointed to a new game and then find out it was in its dying stages.

Most of your choices are pretty uninspiring at this point.

I would go with

Lord of the Rings - although the game is rather pokey and kinda grindy. It's really PvE focused and involves a lot of point collecting. In the end it's do the books or just stop playing...

City of Heroes - cool game, better then CO from what I understand. It has 5 solid years of content and improvements behind it.

Dungeons and Dragons Online - awesome combat and some of the best dungeon adventures...unfortunately it's "world" is non-exsistant as it is a series of instanced adventures.

then maybe Aion

Then like someone else suggested, Warhammer. I dual with my wife there and it's been a great ride so far. The PQ's are pretty fun and really are overlooked by posters here. They break up the "kill 10 rat" grind with some interesting "adventures" However it is a PvP game at its heart but it works pretty well and much like WoW since you are familiar with that.

I would avoid EQ2, it's reallly slow paced and grinding. It  has a ton of toys but nothing really all that interesting to do with them but grind some more. Same with Vanguard, SOE has this one on life support. No sense in getting into a game that is going into idle mode indefinatly while they work on other games. VG defines grind even more-so then L2 as it is almost purely PvE with nothing to look forward to but another rat hunt...but it's amount of subs speak for itself.

Aion has a lot of pink pretty flowers and cute animals...

I think Lotro would be a good game for a pair. With Fellowship manouvers, a guardian/minstrel combo could dominate. PvP is slightly different then most mmorpgs and totally optional. With costumes, you can make your character very unique (so you don't look like every other character at endgame).

The graphics are some of the best in mmorpgs at the moment, and the community is mostly mature adults (kids all go to wow)

To fit in with tolkien lore, there are only four races (Human, elf , dwarf , hobbit) but there are many classes to choose from.

One thing I enjoy about the game is how hit points are handeled. Since people never get rezzed in tolkien lore (gandaulf is the exception) your hit points are actually morale. when enemies hit you, you become more and more depressed untill you must retreat. And of course, cool enough, the healing class is the minstrel which makes you happy by playing tunes.

ok theres my choppy lotro rant....

i would recomend lord of the rings online . generally speaking a more mature community and it shows because most people are polite and friendly .its emphasis is more on pve and storyline although the new expansion will bring a lot more pvp elements into the game this autumn . beyond that AION looks like its going to be the biggest success since WOW so maybe an ideal time to get in on that from the start .

Id say take a look at Champions Online or LOTRO.

I would say give Eq2 a shot its a good game where you can solo duo and group easy .

but y not just try the  free trial's of them Eq2, lotro , Vanguard , you could even try Daoc out 2 .

Another vote for LOTRO.

Very duo friendly with engaging content, especially if you like the works of JRR Tolkien.
