Please stop comparing this game. Comparing new mmo's to already existing ones is the downfall of all potentially great mmo's. If you compare then you'l be disappointed...I saw a guy ask if the abyss will be like RvR in WAR...No the abyss in Aion will be like the abyss in Aion...not like anything else. It may have it's similarities to some other things...but not like anything else. If we spend all day comparing then we'll never get another good mmo ever again. I've seen people that say "If it's not like WoW I'm not going to play it." If you want a game that's like WoW ...go play WoW. Period. Nothing else will be like WoW. Of course games will be similar...but aren't all games similar to one another. Let's see...1. they're games 2. they have controls 3. they have graphics(wether good or bad) 4. they all have stuff to do...

So please stop comparing this game to other games. If we do that then the game will never take off. Sometimes its not bad marketing or bad programming that ruins a game...sometimes its the community it draws...the judgemental community that compares it constantly.

I hope aion abyss doesnt work like warhammer.  Warhammer sucked, i hope aion is alot better, or I wont play.

i agree each game is its own, even if it may borrow elements of another game or has been influenced by another game or universe. i cant wait for Aion though.

 I approach every MMO I play with a clean slate, in the sense that I don't carry any previouse-MMO baggage with me. My only expectation/criteria for a new game is to have fun, that's it.

I agree with the Op but one thing bugs me about the way he said it.

If something is like something else, and there are certain similarities, you need to compare so you do have some point of reference.  I do hope the abyss is something akin to the RvR in War, minus the suck. As opposed to the Abyss being like the PvP in Halo.  These are mmo forums, so when we say we want a game with pvp thats a blend of War and WoW, we understand the differences in those two games, and know what the PvP would mean.

We all need a point of reference so we grasp the context in which we are trying to explain, but the sweeping generalization that this game will be just  like that game so it will suck as well is just ridiculous.

I totally agree that people should stop comparing games, but I don't agree with you when you say that the community here on MMORPG.com can influence the success of a game that much.

Remember... there's only a million members here and most of them are dups and people who no longer visit this site.  All and all, you're probably looking at maybe 50,000 people if that... out of a genre that has millions of people in it.

I actually found this post refreshing. All games have similarities, but they are their own game....good, bad or soso. Thanks for the post OP.

I think it's safe to say I'm glad I was wrong. :p

i'm not getting aion myself, though i completely agree that this comparison of game to another game can cause that game to fail by producing the wrong kind of expectations. Most new games are plagued with some form of problems when they come out, if you come from a game that has been in exsistance for a while, some people are going to expect a problem free game and not give it a chance to redeem itself. So far we have seen this with AoC and it appears to be happening to another game with potential, Champions Online. AoC has been taking all the steps to right the wrongs that plagued its early release, i tried it myself not to long ago and found it to be quite a good game since the improvements, its too bad there is a lack of players that just quit before giving it a chance. Hopefully Aion will see a good release, i hate seeing things like this happen to good games.
