So basically you are calling players stupid, well thats what developers think aswell.

This should be in the Alganon general discussion not in the overall general discussion.

So basically you are calling players stupid, well thats what developers thonk aswell.

First, people are mostly lazy and many players have an attention span of half a second. They don't want to read long texts or tutorials. They don't want to learn, since they don't consider that fun or playing the game. If the game ain't absolutely inuitive a large portion of the gamers runs away. And MMORPGs are currently intuitive if they are like WoW. The players would understand many games if they'd just take a moment to try to. But instead they log on, randomly click on buttons and expect things to run the way they want to. If it doesn't work, they don't play the game.

Like, I work as a game developer myself. As an example, I had once a game with a highscore list. When they lost/won the game, they were asked if they'd like to have their score saved in the highscore list, and to enter their name if that's the case. The place where people could enter their name I had as default text written "name". Sadly I forgot to disable "name" beeing an allowed nickname. The result was that half of the highscore list entries were full of people called "name", because people didn't read "enter your name" or "do you want your highscore saved". Those sentences were already too long. They just kept randomly clicking on  buttons.

So if gamers are stupid? Not in general. It depends on your audience. People who buy a complex flight simulation are different than those buying a game called "barbie's wedding" or MMORPGs.

I know you guys are sick of the WoW clone stuff just like me, but honestly Alganon takes it way to far.  It really deserves the title.  It is so bad I really think they could get sued.  Like interface and GUI windows for the whole game are like traced from WoW.  It is really pretty pathetic.

Reeeeally...

So lemme get this straight. It's a  "WoW-like" game... that is near identical. Hmm...

A UI is a UI is a UI.  They are all pretty much the same there is a bunch of hotkeys with abilities in them. Its not like WoW invented the hotkey UI.

Well the main point was that they advertize them selves as something different, but if your not happy with my UI example then how about the character models? one is a human and the other is a night elf rip off or maybe just the graphics which are totally "inspired" as they say from wow.

Whats so wrong about taking a graphics style upgrading it a bit and using it for a new game. Games steal other game mechanics all the time an its ok. Yes it really does look a lot like WoW but now is the Lore the same?   Now when the Lore is the same then I'll call it full fledged WoW clone.  Same goes with any game out there Its not a true WoW unless its piece for piece a copy of WoW.

I think most players are aware that these games look closely to WoW's style. Perhaps they choose to play an alternative to get away from the wonderful (extreme sarcasm) "community" in WoW.

Alganon does not hide how similar it is to WoW... but seriously, does it matter? How Alganon is developed over the first year of its play will set it apart, not how similar the layout is.

WoW did the exact same thing... Only reason why WoW clone is actually even a term is that there is a whole generation that never played any mmorpg pre-WoW.

Anyone that played enough older mmorpg knows WoW is just a part of long line of clones that won the popularity contest.

Plus I think the standard for being a clone is rather getting too generalized.  Apparently as long as it is a fantasy genre and use the similar interface as WoW it is a clone.  Ouch, that described most games from the old days all the way to modern days both before and after WoW.

Lets assume:

WoW = Car, Minivan = Car, Porsche = Car, so Minivan = Porsche?

So, anyone want to trade their porsche for my minivan? Since they are just clones of each other.

Well graphicially everyone could get caught to think it is WOW if you mix a few screen shot together and you try to find out which one is which.

Just like a real Louis Vitton bag and false one...

Hooray for clones!  But enough already, we've stopped caring :/

Do something productive:  become a quality developer, find a million people with similar views - petition, become a designer, do a dance...anything but make one of these threads.

And I prefer the term "adaptive reuse" (over clone)...but I also think robber barons were captains of industry.

WoW is a clone of Everyquest,FFXI and a whole bunch of other mmos from back in the day. So when people use that term "WoW clone" they really have A) no knowledge prior to WOW or B) just being ignorant. Chances are it is C) All of the above. So just because a game has similar concepts, its a clone. That is just completely awesome.

Now maybe history is not the most "fun" subject in school, it does make one educated about a lot of things. One of them being the origin of a lot of stuff that some people think is "new".

I'm surprized time and time again how people fail to realize that WoW is a copy of other MMOs. WoW is not as original as the majority thinks, blizzard carefully copied lots of stuff from other games. Admittedly they copied a lot of things from EverQuest.

So one can hardly talk of "another" WoW-clone, since WoW is a clone of so many other games itself, EQ being the great example of todays MMOs, especially when it comes to fantasy type MMOs.

Maybe now some of you will understand that WoW itself is a clone with some enhancements, nothing much special there. So the phrase "WoW-clone" in itself makes no sense whatsoever.
