I agree with some of the posters, probably what WoW offers is accesibility in all ranes, from hardware to gameplay.

Never played WoW but its the feeling i get from what others talk about it.

Nostalgia is bad.

I really enjoyed the Bloodelf starter area. I didn't find it at all generic and laclustre as you seem to.

The blood elf starter was my favorite besides humans. And to be honest you would enjoy quests alot more if you actually read the text. Same goes for most games if you don't get into the story and understand whats going on you'll probably not enjoy it

Someone had the nerve to bring up EQ2's Quests.....possibly the most boring mind numbing lame no point no story bland crap-fest of quests yet produced in a game.  30% of the quests is some NPC wanting X number of cooking stuff, 30% clear out X number of boring mobs for no good reason, 30% hey can you run this to someone, and 10% of dungeon crap

I guess I'll pipe in.  I resisted WOW for years as well and finally gave it a serious try when a new server released.  Personally I think the Art Direction in WOW is the best I have ever seen.  Art Direction is ALOT more than just the standard graphics, its about color, mood and DETAIL.  WOW's world is full of critters, lore based objects and interesting artwork which to me, makes it amazing.  I too used to beleive that "realistic" artwork was the only way to go, but now after the richness of detail in WOW, I can't even look at EQ2 (my past game which I played for 3 years) again.   AION has got it right by making the world of gameplay very beautiful and also full of detail.  As far as quests go I find them interesting, and TBC has perhaps the most interesting quests in the game (who can forget the bombing and "poo" quests??)

WOW is about the endgame at the end of the day.  And that endgame is full of exciting things to do.  Quite frankly some of the raid scripting of WOW is the best thought out encounters I have ever engaged in.  They do present a challenge and one that when you beat it you get a sense of gratification (Dont know how many times I have heard the thunderous applause on vent from taking down some tuff mob).  Endgame is important whether you engage in it or not.  Many games have failed due to lack of endgame (or the promise of such).  See Tabula Rasa....

The only things I think WOW lacks is a more interesting crafting (altho its actually pretty decent, and you can make decent clothes and weapons until you start raiding) and some more mini-games like Housing and Guild Halls (I actually think guild halls are a MUST, and long overdue in WOW. Guilds love to show off and it would be great for the RPers).

Current Games: WOW, Fallen Earth
Past Games:SWTOR, Rift, Allods, AION, LOTRO, EQ2, EQOA, AO,Tabula Rasa, Warhammer, AOC, Earthrise, EVE Online
Waiting On: The Great "Sandbox"

Guild halls, while a very nice convenience are not very helpful to the overall community.  I think EQ2s guild halls helped deterionate the community by clearing out the cities.  Maybe it could be done in some way that doesn't hurt the hustle and bustle of towns, especially with Cataclysm putting emphasis back on the original 6 cities of the old world, but I just don't think it is even worth trying.

Guild halls don't really solve a problem and have the potential to create one.

@OP did you play out the indy jones quest line.. that was fun.

Did you group and compete all the group quests at the crashed erm.. undead.. floating castle thing.. ah what are they called? zigeret? erm.

Graphics are subjective. But you went to effectly 1 zone out of maybe 50 zones in the game, you need to explore much more.

Have you done any deungons? played as group?

Played some PvP world and Battlegrounds?

Been to orgrimmer or undercity (main horde cities)?

As to all the kill x and y quests, well not all quests can be unique or have an epic story. bottom line blizzard gave you a reason to kill x number of y, without them you would be grinding mobs for level either way. Atleats this way theres a bit of story.

Im not saying you have to experience this and that and you have to get to lvl x before you enjoy Wow... but you've played about 1% of the game.

Troll or not, I definitely agree with the OP about WoW's questing. I found it to be at best a painfully boring chore that did nothing but waste my time. I hated it from the first character I made. I did enjoy myself for some time at end game, but my attempt to level an alt completely burned me out and lead to me quitting and never leveling in WotLK. I just couldn't put up with more of that pointless, boring time sink that is leveling.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

The first time I leveled a character in WoW i loved it.

Maybe it was due to not playing solo the whole time? Once I hit endgame in WoW that's when the leveling process started becoming tedious since I only wanted to get to max level and run high level content.

WoW is an incredibly top heavy game leveling in Wow could be a lonely experience these days.  Which is understandable in a five year old game.

Playing: WoW, EvE

Interested in: TOR, ER, GW2, WoD, Dust514

Leveling is a chore but your'e playing an RPG thats totally based around levels?  Do you enjoy smacking your head against a wall only to complain how much it hurts afterwards=)  Time to leave the genre.  They're ALL based on levels and they ALL are time sinks that are essentially pointless if you don't actually care to follow and read the lore.  Of course a quest is going to suck if you just read the part that says, "collect 12 doodads" and nothing else.  Its not Blizzard's problem that you're hard of reading=)

All movies suck too if you watch them with the sound turned off, while playing a game and surfing the internet at the same time.  Movies are meant to be watched so you understand whats going on, much like quests have to be read to appreciate why you're on them in the first place.  /user error
