alright this is my hypothesis about the winter expansion and the release of dust 514
in the june 30th 2009 dev blog he hints about the winter expansion "We will be reporting on the winter expansion as it draws closer. All I can say, is that it is focused on sovereignty and you will not be able to walk in it." they also state in their DUST514 interview with the dev that they do not want to disclose a release date for the game but they have been working on the game for 3 years now and the greater part of it is complete. DUST 514 will be a planetary fps linked to eve's database, more specifically the sovreignty aspect of it as of now sov in eve does not depend on planets or planetary control. but they have announced that the winter expansion will have a sovreignty revamp. with those 2 statements, puting 2 and 2 together and following game release patterns i came to the conclusion that DUST514 and the winter expansion will be released either at the same time or in VERY CLOSE proximity. merry xmas little johnny here the brand new PS3 game you wanted

I want to preorder. :( But yeah, you might be right. Although, CCP hasn't released much info about Dust yet, so I really wouldn't jump to conclusions. It seems plausible, though. (: |

Since when 2 + 2 = 7 ? Putting 2 random facts together does not lead to any conclusion but rubbish only... |

I am also speculating that Dust And Eve players will interact on stations. I still have to hope that Eve will grow into a ground game that is not a FPS in the Eve tradition on the PC side of game. It will be interesting to see if this works. |

They've already said dust is not releasing till 2010 at least. I've also heard some info stating that WIS or "Incarna" as they are now calling it will be released in 2010 as well. So I'm thinking that both Incarna expansion and dust console game will be released during the summer expansion timeframe and sovereignty changes (this is apparently going to include planet graphics upgrades FINALLY) come out in winter expansion and that gives them lots of time to tweak the system and make sure it's solid. |

OP: tbh i dont think it will be released near december.... That only gives them 4 months of marketing. And the game was just announced so they need to do the usual "release information once every blue moon" kinda deal. TBH i think the winter expansion will explain planetary sov and put it into EVE but it wont be utilized or "activated" till DUST releases. Or they will just finish the code and keep it out of EVE, then put it in when DUST is released. Dunno, but i'm really interested in what way sov will be changed with Dominion. |

It is the other way round, actually. I do not enjoy speculations and I am trolling in other threads. |

Dust will be coupled to the sov aspect of EvE, or at least that is the aim according to CCP. In order to do that the whole sov thingy has to be revamped and that is a huge undertaking involving lots of changes. I believe CCP will start implementing sov. changes piecemeal, watching how these changes affect gameplay, balance, etc... I do not expect a huge revamped new sov system in this winter expansion. Next year we may see a further step down the range, and so on... Given CCP's track record of delays I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Dust, (remember how long it took to implement FW and how long it is taking to implement ambulation). It may well take a couple of years before the sov. system is polished enough to allow interaction with Dust in any meaningful way. Still, kudos to CCP for creating new ways to play this game. I'm quite intrigued to see in what way sov will be changed with Dominion. |

None the less, I like the fact that you split hypothesis from theory. But the two (seemingly) random facts aren't really that random. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait to find out. |

The winter expansion will move the sov system from POS´es to Planets, and there MIGHT also be the long awaited graphical update to the planets in the winter expansion, although that is not sure yet. what is sure: WiS will come in 2010, and has been renamed to incarna. Incarna will release prior to dust. The upgrades to the planets, if not included in the winter expansion, will come 2010 at the latest. as for Dust 514: Theres no official word about a possible release date. Although one of the biggest german news magazines claims to know that it will release 2010.

And that's it. He did not in any form presented any supporting facts or thoughts why they should be anything more than 2 random facts. He just put them together with no apparent reasonning. His 'hypothesis' says this:

never heard of incarna .... got a link to that information? And AFAIK the winter expansion is focused on Sov ... i dont see how that is spreading rumors or fail information. Especially since what he's saying is hypothesis and not supposed to be taken as true or fact. http://www.eveonline.com/news.asp?a=single&nid=3334&tid=1 "complete overhaul of the current sovereignty mechanics in favor of a system that's a brilliant mix of our game design vision and the input we've received from fans on forums" "artists free to rebeautify planets and more." |

Originally posted by Gdemami sounds like a hypothesis to me, what you are confusing it with is a theory (which is not) |

Hypothesis is an explanation in first place. Explanation of some event, phenomenon or observation. You are not explaining anything. You put random things together in order to make up your desired occurance. I am sorry for my lack of patience resulting in being harsh to you even though I know you don't mean it bad.. :-/ |

Well we know some facts and none of them fit the OPs Hypothesis. 1. Winter Expansion will remove current Sov system and Replace it with a new system 2. Will not be POS centric. 3. Dust will intergrate as part of the factors to determine Sov 4. Not all planets will be able to be fought over in dust ( Some are just not inhabital, Gas Giants for example) 5. Currently Hilmar has stated that Eve and Dust players will not be able to Directly Interact... I'll try and find the video with that should be on the dust fansite though. Thats it, So everyone will get to see the beginnings of the new sov system long before Dust starts effecting it. |
