How is this company working on a second game TSW an expansion for AOC and still have things broken in the original game?  Just warn me if Funcom ever goes into any kind of business other than gaming, the way they do business could be downright dangerous in a different field.

You should specify what you mean by "broken".  There are some problems with raiding, but you should be more specific.  Also, there are completely different teams working on the other games under development at Funcom, so your query is not really relevant.

eureka105, that is simply a lie.  According to the financial report that was released in August, they still have a team of 100+ people working full time on Age of Conan.  The size of the team has not been reduced.  The company is listed and thus can not release inaccurate information in their financial reports.  The other teams working on the Secret World + other games are completely separate from the AOC team.

Ok, so let me get this straight:

1.  Funcom has completely given up on Age of Conan, despite all of what they are saying publicly and the major presentations to be given at Dragoncon this week

2.  The Funcom financial reports are basically full of lies and can not be trusted

3.  Funcom customer support is horrible, and Funcom representatives spend all their time creating fake profiles on mmorpg to defend a game they have given up on

4.  The Secret World has over 200 people working on it and should thus be released very shortly

By the way, where do you fit into all of this?

before i start i'll admit to a couple of things.

1. i pre-ordered and was online the evening the game went live.

2. i left after 2 months of playing.

now thats out of the way i can tell MY TRUTH about AoC. I never had any problems at all, i encountered a couple of bugs which is to be expected with a new release, EVERY GAME HAS BUGS, even those that have been around for years. There was one day that i got annoyed and that was the day the servers were unstable and crashing every couple of minutes. The gameplay was "alright" and i did enjoy it to a certain extent. I don't have an uber computer and yet my game ran better on higher settings than those in chat that supposedly had uber systems and extreme lag etc.

The reason i quit the game is purely because it didn't draw me in enough after 6-7 weeks of play, i was upset that the game seemed completely different to what it was supposed to be (according to dev released info prior to launch) yet i gave it a try anyway.

so my question is this...

Why is there so much moaning about a game that seemed average upto 2 months post launch?

and why do people hate on FC so much? fair enough most of the features they initially said AoC would have don't exist but on the other hand the game is still active and is considered (in my opinion) an average MMO.

Working on an expansion pack for an abandonned project seems very logical indeed heh. AO went free to play (kinda) after how many years? If it ever happens in AoC it won't be tomorrow imo. Oh, and patches every 3-4 months? That's a downright lie, there have been at least 2 per month for a while now, as you can see on the AoC forums in the update notes section (http://forums-eu.ageofconan.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6). I do wonder why so many people seem to wish the game died, I just can't wrap my mind around that, even with the shitty launch and false promises. There must be a better way for those people to spend their time.

That 100+ people in Financial report doesn't mean anything. Do you have any idea how EASY it is to have majority of them work part-time with The Secret World without breaking any laws?

How much they REALLY have people working on AoC can easily be measured. Just look at how long it takes to patch the game.

Fast patching = lot of devs
Slow patching = skeleton crew

Remember at launch when they patched the game once a week? Bug fixes and new stuff coming every week? Now it's slowed down a lot. You might have to wait for a patch for 3-4 months. So clearly those devs are doing something else than working on the core game. My guess is The Secret World.

So you cant see how it is possible for funcom to work on aoc, possibly anarchy a bit, in say...norway, while at the same time create/develop a new game in say, bejing?

You do understand that these are global companies, having a global workforce allows them the create multiple products more efficiantly?

Nah your little use of the equal sign sounds better...

Also can the good people over at the TSW forums look forward to your incite and wisdom about mmo's and funcom?

They would definitely profit from the constrructive criticism of eureka/badboybilly, but chances are he will have gone through a humounges amount of alts until then, and will more likely be known as "prophet887765".

Also, he has foreseen that AoC would be closed bfore the end of 2008, so this thread does actually not excist, and if anyone tells you that AoC is doing just fine, don't believe them without checking with him first.

Patching in most mmos comes only once a month. This allow for any teams to prepare, pre-prod, produce and post-prod. With a deadline it forces people to remain on track and focused while planning future updates and such. That's not a new concept in gaming or in the world. It's been like that for many years.

As for being declared as something and doing something else. Eureka is right, here where I work, we are often switched to various projects while still remaining under one single entity. Our primary assignation is project X but we spend a lot of time on Project Z. At the end of the week, our reports shows Project X and completely ignores Project Z.

I play AoC for now and its a fun game. Seriously people, why the hell does it matter to you so much if AoC does well or not? Get a life....sounds to me like you all need something more in your lives then just videos games LOL. Take up sailing or something, or go get a gym membership...Dont you have better things to think about then AoC's success? So lame....LOL

LOL hes even quoting his other account, wonder how long itll for those 2 to get banned. i guess that after 10+ bans someone hold a deep deep grudge :)

btw, AO is not f2p (only the classic game, which is a small part of the actual game), and the cashshop is cosmetic items only.

im not even playing any FC game, i tried AoC and it didnt grab my attention, but this troll is screaming for attention (which im happy to give him, wtg!)

PS: im not talking about the OP

Firstly: Funcom must not be confused with the steel/automotive/banking/insurance/mortgage/citrus/agriculture industry in the US and does not recieve support from the government. However, they ARE eligble to apply for, and recieve, specific government grants, just like any other company in the world.

Secondly: Revenues can drop into eternity in theory. A company will not go bankrupt until someone petitions them for bankruptcy. This does not happen until the company is out of money and lines of credit to pay their way. Funcom has the cash needed for approximately 3 years of operations without raising more. A mid/late 2012 release of their next MMO is therefore a good bet :)

Any more lessons you need to be taught?

I would certainly be sad if they didn't continue to develop AoC. But the way I see it The Secret World if done right (!) could mean more succes to Funcom, more revenue and continued development on AoC on the side.

At any rate I can't help drooling over the concept of the Secret World. Based apparantly loosely on the Chthulhu mythos, which is my favorite IP, it can't be all bad. And class-less. I just hope they do class-less more like SWG and less like CO which is wrought with problems already.

I have no idea what you are ranting about. Clearly you misunderstood my point.

Have you noticed how AoC patching has slowed down considerably? This is because they have most of their people working on Secret World. Or are you saying that Funcom employees just became lazy all of the sudden?

Ooops! Did someone forget to log on the right account? Not that it wasn't obvious in the first place. This made my day actually, kudos to you and hopefully the multiple account ban. See you next week!

Lol, the master troll keeps stepping on his own toes. I'm keeping a list of all (that I know of) badboybilly alts.

So far I've got; badboybilly, gauteisback, silvapower, eureka105, DIIImaster, akiras, benjen...

He sure has his days full, agreeing with himself on how FC has betrayed us all.
