Every game I play, I lose interest in a few months. I'm not completely sure why that is, but after trying a LOT of games, I've narrowed down my wishes as best as I could... Maybe you guys can give me an idea of what to try next.

1) I like role-playing - Certainly not all the time. There's something to be said for grinding or farming or advancing a story, but I like having my character. And be in his role. It takes me away from my crappy life.

2) I want a character - a unique character. When you see him walking toward you, you know, "HEY! That's Valendros", even if your /names are off. I want to be able to play a little old evil witch, or a spry, wise-cracking elf...

3) I thrive on diversity - I like being able to be the best at something, and then trying my hand at something else, without having to make a new character.

4) I want a challenge - I don't want to be capped in a month. I don't want everything handed to me on a silver platter. I want to work for what I have.

5) I enjoy a unique story - I like storylines. But, call me crazy, I don't care about stories that everybody has already been through. If I knew a storyline was unique, I'd actually read through it. I participate. When it's just another quest storyline that 50000 other people have read, what's the point?

6) I like systems that make sense - Why does that NPC want 5 boar hides? And why does he ask EVERYBODY for 5 boar hides? Wouldn't he have enough hides by now? Why does this NPC want to buy the bow I just found? Is he going to re-sell it? Why would he give me MONEY for a crappy bow that he won't be able to sell and he has no use for? I just want to see a system that makes sense. A fluctuating, living, breathing market causes challenges.

7) Graphics are nice, but not everything - I like spectacular graphics just as much as the next man. But they don't define the game as much as the play does; That being said, I've looked at screenshots of games and tossed the thought of it away just by the cover.

8) I think most of all - I want intensity. I want my heart to pound. I want my palms to sweat. I want to be anxious. I want to FEEL something when I play the game. Otherwise, what’s the point?

So what do you think? What game fufulls some of those criteria?

You don't want too much from a game do you? Seriously though, I doubt any MMO has those features. The only game that has features like that is Oblivion: Elder Scrolls 4 but thats not an MMO. Still, it's a great game if you've never played it before.

Currently playing: World of Warcraft. Love the Recruit a Friend program!

Waiting for WAR.

I intend to live forever -- So far so good!

Valendros my friend, you let me know as soon as you find a game like this and I'll be the first to join you in it.  Trust me when I say this.  You are not the only one looking for something along those lines.  Sadly we are the minority and ultimately not worth much to the game developers out to make money when compared to the mainstream audience.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I porn surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of 'hot xxx galore'. While I clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", I muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, "404."

Well, I guess I am asking for a lot. But really I could live with just a game that lets me...

have a unique character (the way I want him)

is a good challenge (I read up on that 'Your Personal Greatest Moments' thread and I, too, remember the mammets...),

has a good story (I know I can't ask for a singularly unique experience with stories written just for me - that's a pipe dream),

isn't another 'go kill 5 boars', 'go get me 4 boar hides', 'go find the boar that killed my pa' game...

I guess maybe I am asking too much from a game. I want a game where I am unique. My face merges into the crowd too much in real life, I just want somewhere that I can stand out in more than just name.

The words with which I speak are my own.

I'm working on an MMO like that.

Unfortunately it won't be released for ~10 years, so you won't hear about it for a while.  By that time, somebody else will probably have already done it and the game that I'm working on will be called it's clone.

Ah, c'est la vie.

Objectiveness is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.

Well other than character creation ,you summed up FFXI to a tee.I have yet to see one single game, that leaves anyone thinking one player is different or special over the other guy.I guess i do notice a player such as in the game i am playing now that rides around on a pretty pink pony all game and is "dyed" in all pink gear as well lol,yep that strikes one as noticing for sure.

I have to ask - what game are you playing?  Not that I'd want a pink horse, but a game with that level of customization is worth a look.

You're describing EvE - as long as you're prepared to play a game where you make your own way rather than being led through the nose.

EvE for a MMORPG or Elder Scrolls for a off-line game. If any developer was to make such a game with all those features apply to a fantasy MMO, I would be the first to sign up.

People like you are precisely why I put in the clause about being able to find his own way rather than be led through the game.

You sat around and waited for stuff to happen, so you were bored.

People who go and make stuff happen find that there aren't enough minutes in an hour.

wait/get together any meaningful fleet, jump/align/warp through 50 systems to (maybe!) find a fight, kill or die in seconds.

you can call it "make stuff happen" and lots of fun, i call it waste of time.

For character uniqeness and roleplay, I would give champions ONline or CoX a go

FFXI meets most of those points, but not 2) (FFXI's limited selection of character models is notorious) and not 5) (which, frankly, you won't find anywhere. One-off storylines just for you aren't feasible in any MMORPG).

It can be that way.

or it can be worse like POS wars.

oh, and the fight itself. in EVE it should be renamed from PvP, Player vs Player, into PvO, Player vs Overview.
