Samsung T220 HD 1920 x 1080 and the same results.  Luckily don;t use that one for gamining on much but more my films and general web crap and my main gaming monitor is a non HD Acer @ 1920 x 1080 so it looks spiffing on that one.

Well the reason that this is an issue is that people believe a HD monitor means a HD picture. Atm in , at least american technology, screens pictures only looks better wether it's High Gloss or not. Unless your actually looking at television, DvDs, or Blu-Ray you will only get a standard def picture. Graphics cards are what makes anything outside of those three objects looks better. If you get a HD card the game is gunna look HD. People believe that Screen=Resolution on a computer. No it doesn't. Would I still rather have a Plasma or a LCD tv over a standard monitor? Yes, but thats because they don't use the same materials as a monitor. Plasma overall are darker and a bit more grittier and LCDs are brighter and a bit more clearer. All I got to say is: If you want High-Def video games with american technology at this moment I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist without a very highend graphics card or SLI/Crossfire setup.  If you want High-Def videos with american technology just get a High-Def screen with a decent graphics card.

But the game itself as good as runs in HD 2x 9800 GTX's in SLI and does look tremendous on the HD monitor the problem comes from the fact that the video isn't encoded at HD so looks like absolute rubbish on a HD monitor.

Thank you for confirming what you had. I personally only use 1 standard 9800GT on just some rubbish monitor. I personally am not a visual guy, graphics in the intro to me were nice and regular. Yeah they weren't epic, but they were decent.  Ohh and the video being in HD is whatever. It's like oooh im gunna get blue ray on a chick flick to me. HD is only useful for porn and action movies.

You guys are bashing the OP for no reason. What he is saying is completely true. The video wasn't made for high resolution monitors therefore it appears blocky. Its like playing your gameboy color on a 40 inch TV. Enjoy the pixels!!! I have a 24" 1920x1080 monitor as well, and so I see the same thing. The problem is only going to be for the video though, as the game itself supports high resolution. You guys act as if the OP is trolling, but really its you guys who are trolling. Making smart alleck remarks like our "super" rigs can't run AION and whatnot. He is only talking about the quality of the intro video.

We are bitching because if you read his first post he just said it was ugly and didn't offer up why. If you post an opinion and don't follow up with a reason why you believe it to be so... YOU WILL GET FLAMED. Now that more light has been shed on the issue we can see the OP might have a valid point. I doubt anyone who views the opening video is going to play the game because it looks ugly when in fact the game is fine.

Heh I agree I just wish a lot of studio's would cater to those with equipemnt that can run these type of thing's I understand the need to bring in the WOW crowd on there older machine's but al least give the option like we do with graphic's.

I have been following this game from a distance and haven't played any of the betas.  However, the more I hear everyone complaining and bitching about stupid things makes me want to play more.  The game must be that good if people are complaing about cutscenes.

Perhaps you should learn to read.

I mentioned....

1) Artificial upscaling

2) Low bitrates

3) Macroblocking

4) Artifacts

as reasons why the video is ugly.

The game is what it is. There are definitely going to be people who dont' like it. And their reasons are sound since many players are looking for a game that is not set in tradtional mmo gameplay.

For me it's about which ingredients Aion uses and how much of each.

the game is not WoW  but there are elements that are reminiscent of WoW. The game is certainly not Lineage 2 but those who come from games with extremely easy leveling curves have complained about the leveling.

It's not a hardcore pvp game by any imagination but at the same token, players who are vehemently anti pvp will probably not like it.

I say try it, get to early 20's for pvp and see if you like it.

I'm running a Benq at 1920x1200.  I also run a Sony Bravia at 1920x1080

You are without a doubt, the biggest retard I have run into on these forums.  Intro movies are set to be run at a certain resolution, usually 1024x768 or 1280x1024.  The more you stretch that out, the worse it becomes.  Why don't you do something useful, like pack your mommy bought computer up and leave the rest of the community to it's game.

Intro videos rendered at 1900x1080 do not require stretching out on 1080p panels. (This is called artificial upscaling.  Learn to use proper terminology)

No!!!!

I shouldn't learn to read and understand geek terms like "Macroblocking" because I have ZERO interest in computer specs other than answering the question of having a good quality picuture. I am satisfied with the quality of my 21" monitor and if anything it would have been informative if you listed what monitor you were using in your opening post.

Except you aren't qualified to answer questions about picture quality if you don't know even know what macroblocking, artifacts and upscaling are.

I agree, the video quality is ass.  I'm not sure why everyone is saying it looks fine, when clearly it's horrible.  The intro to the game (before log in) looks ugly as hell, and so does the intro after you make your character.  My only guess is that a high def version will be shipped on our discs.

You're average MMOer is a poor wanna-be hippie who can't afford a $1000 monitor. On a higher end set up the video truly is nasty. Thankfully, you watch it once and you're off to the game which looks fine.

If you're downloading it from NcSoft like I did it will take a very long time.  I think my top download speed was 108/kbs with 30-40 being lowest.

Downloading from FP is the quickest, but I didn't mind since it ran in the background and I didn't even notice it.  I would not recommend sitting in front of your screen just to see the intro and sign on screen.  You will have a long wait and not much of a payoff.

No, it's ugly... At most, it's equal to High Quality video from youtube.  The quality is nowhere near in-game graphics.
