Three little letters... PvP. I will not start an MMO I know I can't cap out in without a lot of headaches. Here for fun not work. Work comes with a paycheck =P |

Like I said in another thread, but that thread seems to be dead and buried: I crave for a different, new MMORPG that will hook me to it, but AION just isn't what I need. I could not stand (in closed beta) the asian all-to-familiar models, "heroic" poses, fancy "flowery" surroundings, same funny-retarded female running animations like in Lineage (don't tell me you really like those), "sad-sugary" music, and above all the "PRETTINESS" of characters that almost make me puke of EMO-ism. There, I said it, I REALLY don't like Aion. Sue me. |

I don't "hate" the game because it's pvp-focused (pvp folks need games too), but the emphasis on player conflict is the only barrier-to-entry I need to stay away from it. Given the massive cultural attraction to pvp-based endgames in the east, however, not to mention the dearth of such games in the west, I'm sure Aion will do just fine without me. As time drags on, I find my interest in Aion fading...rapidly. |

WoW has PvP and it seems to be doing ok... I'm not sure why a well polished game with PvP can't be successful. Aion v3 "RELOADED" - A glimpse into the future of the MMO genre http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PAM0wr7cZ8 |

I was looking forward to Aion. My wife and I put down $5 pre order through EB Games, and tried it out. After awhile we both looked at each other and said wow I m bored. We still persisted, but just didn t want to log in. I m a huge pvp lover, as is she, but the game was so uninspiring to us. I m just not willing to pay for 2 copies, to something we found so boring. Yes I know people will say you didn t see all the game has to offer, but if the one aspect that you re going to be doing on a regular basis(PVE) is boring the hell out of us, no PVP no matter how good it is will make the game better to us. It s so been there done that, that I just don t want to do it anymore. Better games are on the horizon IMO so I ll wait them out instead. |

they werent really saying it wasnt going to be sucessful, the oposite infact. They just dont like pvp games, so that is the reason they wont play. Also WoW's pvp is entirely instanced based and is more of a minigame inside a pve game. PvP servers dont really count, i played on one of the larger ones for several years and the most world pvp you saw were gankings and griefing. |

I think the overall graphic and art direction feel of the game will hurt sales in NA. I was actually sort of looking forward to this one. Been hearing alot of good things about game systems etc. Plus it has been out awile in Asia so the systems should be stable polished and bug free. But I was in Fry's last weekend and they had the demo / teaser running on a huge assed screen garnering attention. I can't help thinking that the attention garnered was not the sort the publishers were hoping for. Actually seeing it like that, yeah the graphics were stunning, but you could tell from the look on everyone that stopped to look at it, there was some sort of disconnect. I know I just could not get my mind to get past the anime angels fighting theme. I just could not find myself identifying with what I saw on screen. It was gorgeous, but it did not hook me, and I saw that same lack of being hooked in the faces of alot of others watching it. Even scarier, they were also running a clip for Age of Conan, that seemed to perk the viewers up alot more then Aion did. |

Heh, I was in on Lineage 2 closed beta, open beta, and release. I can honestly say, NCSoft has a lot to be desired in the launching of new games and since Aion feels so much like Lineage 2, it's not anything new to them. Same engine different wrapper.
Come drive the POS car 2009, it's got a new body, but the same POS engine and transmission and handling as our POS car 2004.
My biggest complaint with them stems from the fact that they held an OB contest that was hindered by their horrendous network setup. I went from number 10 and climbing after week 2 down to into the 1000 because the server I was on experienced a week long bout of the couldn't help its. Their answer, to forge ahead despite the fact that Seighardt server had suffered so heavily while the other servers were still up and running.
Despite that, the chanter class looks interesting to me. Takes me back to memories of playing my Paladin in DAoC with the way it plays. |

Mostly because it is the same as everything else so why bother playing it.
And despite the fact that the "cool flying" was to be one of the selling points it is the biggest turn off for me. Absolutly no interest in that in an MMO, or most other games for that matter (have not enjoyed any FPS games that have had jetpacks with the exception of Duke Nukem 3D because it wasn't serious).
I honestly just don't get the hype of this game at all, people say they are dying for something different then WoW and then they go nuts over this when it is just WoW. But I guess to a lot of people that's what is fun, but not to me. |

im really suprised noone has found a happy medium between the bland and samey items of AoC and the over the top flashy/spiked/glowing armors and weapons of Aion and WoW. |

For the follow reasons: 1) Is a korean mmo 2) Is a grindfest with long character progression to keep you play for years with no end game at all 3) Is a linear themepark 4) Safe zones 5) No full loot 5) Auto target with tab Prolly korean grinders aren't for me, i'm not a nerd after all. I like only sandbox. PS: I think TERA is better than AION. P2p played: Darkfall online | Mortal online |

I don''t have to know how to make a better game, I only need to know where the "CANCEL" button is! |

First off, the game is visually stunning and I really wanted to like it, but:
I had a Collector's Edition all pre-ordered and I'm sitting on a pile of NCSoft game cards, but I decided that I'm not paying for a game that wasn't designed for me. I re-upped my WoW account and am having a blast. This thread is so full of inaccuracies I don't know where to begin. I have no issues with people who don't want to play Aion as it's their money and their choice, but some of the reasons stated in this thread are based on heresay, old beta versions (1.5 addresses many issues), or are simply not true. "I loathe PvP and don't want to have it forced on me" Yup, this is certainly not a game for you. I loathe raiding, so WoW is not the game for me. "Flight is way overrated." Not sure who is doing the overrating, but I enjoy the tactical wrinkles that flight adds in to combat. "The game has too many customization options" You're kidding, right? Are you suggesting that the game has too many ways to make your character look...*different* from everyone else? Gasp! How dare they add such flexibility to that feature in their MMO! "No swimming" Yes, because swimming is so much fun in other games. I'll take fighting in the air over fighting underwater any day. "No mounts" Why are mounts so important when you can fly? They've already said they'll be adding in some type of mount system in the future anyway, but it might be *different* from what people might expect. Oh no, there is that *different* word again. "I re-upped my WoW account and am having a blast." Good for you. Sounds like that game is a good fit for your playstyle. They can adjust classes all day, but they can't help the issue between the keyboard and the chair. |

I will play Aion, but I doubt it will be for longer than the free month since as others have mentioned its the same old thing we have seen for the past decade with a different skin - repetive uninteresting pve, boring click and watch combat, pot spamming, levels and gear grind > skill in pvp. The abyss point system makes it even worse for non-hardcore players since it will be extremely tough to actually get the best pvp gear when you are constantly fighting higher level, better geared, no life players making it likely very tedious to build up the necessary points. Meaningful pvp? When 1 player 5 levels higher can practically kill an entire group solo I would hardly call that meaningful. |

Originally posted by Sarbocabras From your post what is an original MMO today? If Aion isn't bringing us anything new then what has and or will? SW:TOR? FFXIV? GW2? Hmm well I'll chime in on that. First, and I know very little about it, SW:TOR will NOT be FANTASY!!!! Fantasy is my favorite genre but give me a break. As for GW2 well It already sets itself apart with the strategy of the skill deck system, and awesome PvP. |

Not gonna play for several reasons but one of the main ones is longevity. I hate to start a game like this, put a ton of time in and then a few months later get burnt. Rolling an alt would make me ill doing the exact same thing over and over. Rolling Elyos is the same as Asmo as the areas are all the same with same quests only with less snow and different skins. Plus unless you are in a big guild then you will hit a wall as far as content goes. Aion is a good game but it lacks depth to an extent and is limited in scope right now. |

I tried the OB and can say this from my limited play time The graphics are nice not much network lag or FPS lag from the game. not much enjoyment from the game IMO, i quested a bit, Gathered a bit, Killed a bit but meh ill pass. It will take a great game to pull me from Runes Of Magic right now. Aion just isnt it. I wont knock the game too much it just is not my style of game. I like the fantasy, Dragons, undead and Wizard, knight themed games. RoM gives me all of that so im gonna stick with it until something new comes out.
