open beta isnt a demo you free loader. if that is your mentality, i hope you dont get into open beta.  find a key and report bugs like a good beta tester.

And where does needing a key mean that you need to hand over credit card details?  I've played plenty of betas on key without buying the game later.

Don't get your panties in a knot, geeeeeeez.

OK so I was in the closed beta, and my son was not.  I downloaded the patch from Fileplanet, and he got the whole open beta client.  After you get the client you are sent to this page, which says:

FilePlanet subscribers will can download AION open beta client today. Open beta begins soon exclusively on FilePlanet! Keys will be delivered to our subcribers beginning Tuesday September 1st. Aion open beta is 9 GB, get ready for open beta and download today! Come back on Tuesday September 1st for your beta key. Not a FilePlanet subscriber? Subscribe now!

Note that this just requires you to create an account on Fileplanet, not have a paid subscription.

So stop flaming, make a throwaway account on Fileplanet if you don't want to keep up with their stuff, and get your key on Tuesday without paying a dime.

I suspect NCSoft cut some deal with Fileplanet to give them an exclusive on key distro so they'd get lots of new accounts so Fileplanet can charge more for the on-site ads.  Plus, some folks will probably think they have to pay for a FIleplanet sub to get a key.

But I think you won't.

Now, chill, download your client, and get your key on the 1st, and maybe I'll see you all in OB on the 6th!

So much heat, insufficient light...

If you read the Aion pages they have details on Fileplanet and torrent sources for the CB-OB patch (closed beta to open beta patch), which should fix you up.  Aionsource.com is probably your best source for help with some of the issues folks are having patching.

Enjoy!

Yeah from what I understand if you pre-order(ed) you get in the open beta.

That also means those of us who have been in the closed beta have access to the open beta since we already pre-ordered.

Some people are saying something about needing a key or paying.  They had a pre-pay for Tabula Rasa for the beta...lame.  i don't see why you just can't download the client and get a free key from Fileplanet....makes sense you know.  Greedy people...ugh!

If you already have played in the closed beta just go to fileplanet and find the aion cb to ob patch 1.5, download it, let the installer install it, (its 3 gbs by the way, I assume because of the dungeons), and you should be good to go.  At the end the NCSoft launcher popped up a message on me saying "We will see you on 8/31", whatever that means.

That's it.  Have Fun!

Okay, so flamers of the forums abroad sharepen your typing skills and abuse me if you will...

For me, Open beta for MMORPG's has always been a way for me to hop in the game, check it out a bit and see if it completely and utterly fails at being entertaining or if it's a mild to great success. Buying MMORPG's before you've had a chance to test them out to see if you really want to spend money on them is like buying a car over the internet based solely on some pictures and forums saying it's good...

So, forgive all of us "idiots", "losers", and "lamers" that don't want to shell out the 50 bucks for pre-order or the hassle of gamestop JUST TO BE ABLE TO MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION...

i dont blame you gun for being annoyed.  Should be a free thing, you shouldn't have to pay.

My first ideas on the game is...I love it!  Looks like what WOW wasn't, getting excited, am looking forward to it.  If you have played Lineage 2 you really can't beat those day and night cycles and how it affects the artwork.  Aion looks as if to have the same.

I am  sure there will be sighs of "Wow ripoff", or "its a Korean WOW!"  Idc.  I am looking forward to it.  I recommend.

Again for the last time, To play any game with NCSoft you need a key... The Open Beta keys will be givin to you for free, There will be plenty of keys however there will still be a limit at some point, you can preorder however and have GUARANTEED entry into OB... Or just wait for MMORPG, Fileplanet, etc to give away the keys Sept 1, Tuesday...

I wish those who don't know what they're talking about would just shutup and read some of the posts in this thread and elswhere before spreading false information.

Let me sharpen my pen...If you want to try the game before you buy it,  wait for a few months after release when they release a trial client.  Thats when NCSoft essentially says it is at a point where they can really show it off and entice you to play.  If you want to beta test the game then follow their beta test guidelines.

I agree that open beta's nowadays are a misnomer however you do yourself no justice by admitting that you want to try before you buy on a beta client, as opposed to getting and early look and assisting in making the game better.

Almost forgot why I stopped posting on this site...until this gem of a thread.

Typical whinner thread without doing any research into the topic,You will need a key but not as 1 poster said in this thread about "spending 50 bucks to play an open beta",you can get into beta with a key that you will find all around the internet this week,or you could pay 5euro/dollars for the pre-purchase option.

The whinners of today seem to think that open beta is a way to try the game and have a free look, that would be a trial you guys are thinking of and not a beta test, you are allowed to enter this test to help the devs and techs test there hardware and stress test the servers, hell if they made a game like Aion available to all then they would need a hell of amount of servers that would cost them money to run that they wont even need come general release.

As with any company they are here to make a profit...not give you something for free,If you find this unfair then just wait for a free trial of the game to appear,as with any mmo this will happen,I bet half the people complaining about the open beta have no intention of playing anyway...just the usual "I want something for free" crowd.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Much as I agree that people didn't research and are whining, I have to say the threads with mrbluray the last couple days are nearly enough to stop me from posting, and I obviously have a higher tolerance.  This thread doesn't *touch* those...:)

But, in practice, the open beta has become more like "The first taste is free!" over the last couple of years.  Really, the closed beta for this game was mostly testing market and localization, not the game (the game's been running a good long time in east Asia).  The open beta is only to tempt people in, and let the closed beta players get a fore-taste of the v1.5 version game (since we played the v1 game in closed beta.

But yes, the game is opening to NA/EU markets at version 1.5 -- and I suspect the reasoning behind limited keys is two-fold.

(1) some sweet deal with Fileplanet in exchange for getting lots of folks to sign up for accounts at their site
(2) they don't want to deploy more servers for OB than they plan to maintain at launch (as you said)

btw, I love your sig quote!  When I was first doing interactive color graphics in line-mode in 1978, the idea that I could be doing improvisational, on the fly rendered 3D graphics in a shared service interacting with folks from all over the world...?  Well, it's an everyday miracle that mostly goes unappreciated!  And amazing fun.

I'm proud to be working (and playing) in the field...:)

Dont forget shava that even though the game has been released in the East the servers for NA/EU still need testing, again that is why they will have the open beta, yes they also do it for some advertising but they still need to test there servers.

If they did not then you would find they would allow everyone into the game, though like I said they would end up using more servers than they will even need come release.

Thanks for the comment about the text on my sig,I still think back to those days and cant believe how good we have it now :)

What kind of idiot would download the open beta client without being in Open Beta first?

I'm sorry, I don't mean to laugh at this poor person who spent time downloading the game, but the post and comment is funny
