COMBAT

I can see how being used to auto-attack would make combat a bit annoying, and I know in the initial zone it's much harder for ranged users since everything charges you melee, but try being melee when you have ranged MOBs giving you the run around and aggroing everything in sight :P. I personally like the FPS-style, helps me feel like I have more of an active role in combat, and as for tactics I have two full quickslots with purchased abilities/mutations and generally use them consistantly(L20 BTW). Technically, with 45 levels currently capped for open beta I guess you could say I'm mid-level, but I hear they are expecting 150... Same basic principle for every MMO, combat evolves in complexity with the leveling, until you reach dungeon raiding then it goes south lol.

CRAFTING

I really like crafting, it's got that nice middle ground between luck and work when it comes to the mats. Certain materials are fairly easy to get if you put in the time, while others are much harder to come by if you're distinctively searching for them, but so far nothing so completely rare has been required of me, so crafting seems more like a true game mechanic(which it is) rather than just a side gimmick. I'd like their to be a bit more to customization or quality level, something to give the dedicated crafters a bigger edge in the market, and my hope is something like that may come later.

GRAPHICS

Reminds me of SWG, even the movements, collision is a good bit better though. The thing is though, maybe it's being so old school but as long as it's not completely gimp, graphics have never really taken away my ability to enjoy the gameplay. Don't get me wrong though, I love graphics, got SLI 260s to back me up on that. Wish it was better, but this isn't Sony or Blizzard we are talking about, resources and capabilities go as far as the dollar will take it.

BUGS/OPTIMIZATION issues

Ya there are alot of them, having been there for as many MMO releases as I have though I've kinda become numb to it. I hope they don't take too long to get the stuff fleshed out after release.

OVERALL

I like it, I've preordered it. Been a while since I enjoyed an MMO this much. True there is alot of stuff that needs to be fixed, and I think alot of potential for content that I hope they can manage to get out there before too long, but really it's on standard for most MMOs in terms of completeness at release. People say I should expect better, but why should I expect more from an indy company than I would get from the big dogs? Is that too logical of a way to think about it, or am I just an old fashioned chump? :P. Who knows.

As an afterthought, I only came into Open Beta because I had nothing else to do, truthfully I've been tracking Mortal Online for awhile and already have a pre-order. So far though, it looks like I've already found what I'm going to be playing for a good time to come.

This is a pretty solid game for a small developer. Anyone who was expecting the next big MMO title naturally would feel dissapointed.

Some areas are indeed lacking and those are exactly what I expected them to be:

1. Artwork - very limited and generic in it's feel - there is no uniqueness to it - could have used more proper artists and less 3D designers.

2. Graphics - does not compete with other new MMO releases. Also pretty retarded to even compere against FPS graphics from 90s. Compare MMO graphics from early to mid 2000 would be more accurate.

3. Animations - second rate at the best. This is area that lacks the most because it affects the immersion so much.

4. Overall polish - average, will probably get better over time.

5. Combat/driving - slightly annoying UI and feel. First impressions are important and the system leaves a lot to be desired for.

Ya I missed commenting on the driving. ATV/Motorcycles kinda buggy and hard to move with, the developers wanted to give mount options but so far the horse is so much more viable than the rest IMO. Needs work.

I played beta a while ago and it was unplayably bad and buggy. will have to give it another go. I wasn't that bothered by the graphics but the feel of the game was just really bad

Thank you, Wes.  All these posters screaming "90s" or "mid-90s graphics" are exaggerating just a little I think.

Besides, mid to late-90s MMO graphics was, drumroll, Ultima Online.  I think FE has advanced just a little bit.

Also something you d00dz have to realize, this forum is completely not in touch with any reality ever.  This forum is its own MMO.  You guys that complain (example I read today) about your "shit" computer that only has the five billion MB ram, six trillion Ghz gpu from last season -> you must realize that not everybody out there, at all, is constantly upgrading for minor, yes minor, improvements.  Please get over yourselves.  If you won't play a game because of the graphics, please make a list and post a sticky so I can know where to go and avoid you (and no, my graphics aren't this season but they still play everything cranked up all the way).

How dare you present him with logic! Don't you understand? He fights epic fights, in epic games, with epic toons....eats epic food and takes epic dumps! He has more e..pic..icity...ness in his little finger than you have in your whole unepic body! - ChicagoCub

Kinda like how an 8 year old would think a 25 year old is "REALLY OLD". It's a perspective thing :P. Either that or exageration.

I've posted my impressions of this game elsewhere, I don't think it has any longevity and my initial impressions upon beta testing were that it would fail, especially considering the popularity of Champions and Aion, which also release in Sept.  Fact is, that if the vehicle physics were any good, I could enjoy this game just by driving around like some MMO-Motorstorm, but instead the focus was on making the game more mmo-like, which has ultimately destroyed the game's promise...

If Fallen Earth was more FPS, and less MMO, it'd be more like Borderlands and would stand a much better chance...as is, its nothing special, except regarding its setting and (at times) crafting.

Well honestly there are alot of SWG refugees out there who've finally found a Sandbox game to fit their style out of FE, and those same people really wouldn't bother with WoW with flying(Aion) and another superhero MMO(Champions).  It's not as if FE is competiing against something utterly awe inspiring. FE manages to appeal to a niche market that's been left in the dust for a very long time, and with that they may very well succeed indy or not.

Combat system is almost unresponsive.

I say take a year or two to polish down everything.

I was disappointed.

I couldn't even make it all the way through the tutorial 75% of the time. Literally. The stupid soldiers wouldn't heal when I clicked the skill and it made me use up all my bandages.

Really all they need to do is get better servers so the reaction time between action and reaction isn't so bad.

I wasted all of my free time the other day just trying to get past the tutorial. Even deleted characters and made new ones 4 times. In the end, I wasted all my free time and I was very very frustrated.

I'm thrilled that the tutorial for my new favorite game is acting as a filter for idiots.

My hats off to the developers!

To those players that managed to figure out the combat system, read the quest text and generally figure out the game, I'll c u on the 9th.

Combat is responsive. I don't think that word means what you think it means.

As for healing the solders, you could have tried selecting them to use the patch on them, like the dialog said to do.

Above I defended the concept of what Beta means to the heavy antagonists of this game.

Now that I have finally played this game ...

I would now like to retract my previous statement, hold hands with these heavy antagonists, join their guilds, church, slow-pitch softball team, book club, AA meetings, and sing a death march with them as they are the wisest people on the planet.

The title of this post "I thought this game was going to suck."

Damn. I thought this game was going to be good.

The combat was what turned me off this title. And they refused to put anymore polish on it.

Its not he mechanics of it that were bad. It was the implementation. The camera snaps when you kneel or prone, mobs run up to you to melee range...so there is no point in ranged combat. And cover doesn't exist in this game at all. The delay in shot > Target react was the last straw.

Its to unrefined and clunky for FPS players, and RPG players are simply going to be frustrated by its lack of polish or tactics.

It essentially boils down to "I will stab you with bullets".

I have to take this back.

They have come a long way.

Can you explain why?

I completely missed the boat on this one. Is there still some form of beta running or will there be a free trial once it's released ? Considering the very mixed reviews here I'm not gonna splash the cash without playing it first.

Odd, the game ran well for me although the engine is definitely unoptimized.  The reason they are pushing back to the 22nd is to add more servers I bet.

Pretty sure that they're only going to have 1 server at launch...  They have said that several times now.

There is only going to be ONE server at launch, they are NOT changing this.

However, they ARE thinking about getting a European server, but a no where near close to when they want to get it. They plan on waiting a month or two AFTER release to determine the number of European players and if they need a secondary server.
