MO do sound very interesting, I just hope they don't release it too early. That is what kill most potential games. And if it fails I hope World of darkness online will be good instead. I wont preorder MO, I met the lead designer and he seems nice enough but I still want to try a game before I buy it. |

R.I.P Star Wars Galaxies, there will never be another like it. |
Forumfall is actually what darkfalls forum is called, not the game itself.. But other than that I completely agree, mortal online will hopefully be as great as it sounds and finally there will be a sandbox worth playing again |
|
lol not a "shill" at all, nor am i a hardcore fan... i actually only play the beta about 5 - 8 hrs a wekk cause its all i have time for, just sayin the game has a solid base and tons of potential and so far each thing that gets implemented is as promised. |

Well, Mortal Online is certainly more of a sandbox than Darkfall. That much is certain. However, it'll probably end up degrading, like Darkfall, into a FFA PvP hackfest. Unless Starvault does some hard work and prevents that, which I hope will happen. The game looks nice. So does Earthrise, though, and while that's further away, it has the most potential (on paper) of any MMO in development right now. |

Ya the ffa hackfest i hope doesnt happen, the one thing this game has going for it is... it is FUCKIN MASSIVE. yes it may have the same km/2 as other mmos, but because u have to run EVERYWHERE by foot (mount soon) the map seems endless. you never see anyone outside of a town. (right now about half the map is being use) and im pretty sure how fast ur character runs... say compared to wow is much slower, so it takes even longer per km.. etc. |

Can you name me one game where it didn't have "tons of potential" and didn't claim a "solid base"? In fact, I challenge you to find any game ever that has marketed itself with the slogan "weak at the core, no real potential" Every game on the list has "tons of potential" but most of them never realise it. And BTW if you want a "true hardcore mmo" then WWIIoL has been available for years - the thing is that most of the self proclaimed 'hardcore' don't play it because it's too tough. |

MO does look good, based on what information is available. It is certainly worth keeping an eye on. On paper it embodies everything I would want in an MMO. However, I am not in a position were I can afford to pre-order something without even knowing that it will be released. If it gets released with even half of what they are claiming, I'll certainly give it a shot. If I had the money, I might even pre-order just to support the company, because they seem legit. But I don't so I won't. |

Its a FFA PVP, full loot game and will occupy the same small niche as Darkfall. And right now DF has one big edge, its released, people are paying for it, and its releasing content updates regularly.

I am sorry if you like the looks of this game then you are desperate for a game to meet your niche this game looks horrible. |

Most non fanboy beta participants disagree with your assement. Their release date is way to close unless they decide to open up a NA " beta " server, or miraculously get more funding. Expecting anything more than melee and archery combat, crafting, and basic AI mobs will surely lead this game to failure. Its just not ready for primetime. |

That is so true. I would always snipe my buddy with headshots and he would get pissed. Although he was always beaming when the reverse happened. I never really cared either way, but I always found it funny. |

On paper Mortal Online DOES look like a good game with a good dev team to back it up. But, in actuality Mortal Online is perhaps it's own worst enemy. Most people play games to escape the real life drone, to escape to something new, be it a new world with fantastic creatures and magic, or a world with superheroes and space ships. Mortal Online IS a fantasy game but it lacks the fantasy components that made games like Ultima Online and Asheron's Call great. They are trying to listen to the general public of fanboys and wannabe devs on the forums which ON PAPER seem like a good idea but, when executed make the game boring, unpleasant and in some instances, unplayable. I have participated in their combat beta and their "closed" beta and have found myself feeling displeased, bored and mad at times with the lack of "fun" in Mortal Online. Darkfall, from what I have seen has made an almost 360 turnaround and I am contemplating giving it another try. Until then Dawtide (dawntide.net) seems like the best choice for someone craving a skill-based sandbox mmorpg.

To backstab someone in a good armour is still very hard IRL but without an armour any moron can kill you with a sword or a good club. I don't think anyone care that naked people gets one shoted, the question is if you can do this to someone in a armour too, that would really suck. Nah, my fear is that they release the game way too early in an unfinnished state like DF, WAR, AoC and VG. That is the thing that kills of most MMOs. Fun factor is the other part that kills of MMOs, it still have to be fun to play. If they remember that and releases in a good shape the game will be big, otherwise it will be like DF, a small niche game with few players. |

The way people talk about it on the forums and the way you talk about it are polar opposites from what I can tell...I hope that SV comes through but I am going to wait about two months after release before I even consider buying a game from a brand new developer that is struggling for cash. I was very interested in this game for a long time but no release of screenshots, hardly any info other than "The features are coming" and some persuasive doubters have made me skeptical. |
|
|
The devs have promised much more then the darkfall devs and they have failed to deliver constantly in the beta |
|
|
We shall see in a few months what game can be called a sandbox.
With that stated, I hope Starvault has a crapload of features complete that arent yet patched into the beta.
From my name I am obviously a DF fanboy as you can deduct. I folowed MO for one year so far. I still fail to comprehend how MO will be more of a sandbox than DF was at release.
If anyone can spare the time, enlighten me please. |
