No, SW:TOR won't surpass WoW. I'm a huge SW fan and I hope to see a good MMO based on it some day. I'm just skeptical of Bioware making something that will be fun for a couple of months or more. But it wouldn't matter who made it, it won't surpass WoW. Only Blizzard themselves will do that. |

Ok well thast sounds more liek he just didn't show to classes his last semester. My sister did that she just didn't want to do it. But really, is that not a good thing. If he was serious about what he was doing thewn he would have graduated if not then he wouldn't. I mean if he is happy playign wow and doinmg whatever, is not that what matters? If you're happy being antisocial i guess then sure lol he can play WoW but I'd go over to his house and he would play wow the whole time I'd be there. Its pretty sad really I've known the guy since we were in middle school. I stopped talking to him a couple months ago and hes never tried to contact me so I'm sure hes still in front of his computer playing WoW 24/7..

WoW can't stay the top-of-the-heap forever. I thank the OP for not using that stupid 'WoW-killer' term, it's much more reasonable to ask if another game will become a leader in the market. If any game can, I'd think this one has a shot. People get upset when developers produce games that are just clones of previous games, but when a company tries something a little different, like emphasizing story, the same people whine about how the game won't meet thier expectations. Bioware has shown they know how to make decent games, that puts them ahead of most MMORPG developers. Maybe all it will take to become the next market leader is to make a fun game, even if it doesn't match previous models of MMORPGs. |

So let's say you have 400 hours of gameplay. For people who can play 2 hrs a day (and my kids definitely have LESS THAN that a day because of homework and stuff), we are talking about 200 days ... 6-7 months. That is quite enough. And I am sure there will be additional repetitive elements like PvP and free form fighting.
I think much depends from the way they are counting that 6 or 7 times the content of KOTOR. If it means that there are six classes each with roughly the same amount of content as their single-player monster, well, then I guess it won't actually equal to 400 hours of gameplay for mr. Regular Gamer. In general I think that it is way too early to say anything much from SW:TOR as most of the gameplay details are still shrouded in a veil of inter-stellar nebulae. If, and this is a big if, the gameplay content actually means the leveling content on top of which comes the end-game content, then there certainly is a chance that SW:TOR will lure the masses. Otherwise it will be a quick fling to many WoWers and other MMOers alike after which they will just quietly return to their previous churning. |

This game has exactly zero chance of becoming the MMO leader. |

Many people say it will fail because the story will only last 2 months worth of playtime. Well, what about people who live for the end-game? I, for one, despise questing and the grind to lvl cap. I will be racing to hit lvl cap as soon as I get the game. I love lore, anymmo I play I get into the lore. I just don't do it by questing... lol. So, all who say it will fail, you need to factor end game in. End game wins! |

It won't take over the Market lead. Not a chance. I love Star Wars and I have friends that work for Bioware, but even that doesn't blind me to the fact it won't take the lead. However, I believe it will be in the to top 3-5 range. |

no it will come out and have people on it for a month then drop case in point look at aoc they tried that whole story based bs and look at aoc now |
|

Nope and not even close. Scifi star wars or not is even more niche than fantasy ever could be. Add in a linear story and remove a bunch of MMO elements and you have TOR. LOTR has more depth to it |

You cant take the MMO market lead with a Single-Player-Role-Playing-Game no. You can sell shiatload of DVD copies around launch day to blind fanbois though. |
|

Its possible to take the lead in the short term but unf there is a turnover or unsubbing after the 1st month. Its way to early to say anyhting now. look what happened with WAR and AOC. Let wait and see. |

If anybody thinks this game even has a chance to get 12 Million subs at launch is crazy. |

It would be definately the best online RPG, on the true sense of the word. And i dont think a true RPG can dominate a market , people are used to easy to play action rpgs, WoW style, and many others.
This game will (fortunately :) ) require lots of time of talk and conversations, persuading Npcs, knowing what we doing and why, and all that type of gameplay doesnt seduce the mainstream players. |

YAY for a SW game where everyone can be a Jedi / Sith LAWL this game won't even be as succesful as SWG was. |

If that boring ass gameplay video they showed us was any indication then the answer is a resounding no. |
